  • "I was rewriting myself. And I think the power of knowing you can do that - you get to do that, and you CAN do that - is too fucking big to shy away from sharing with you."

So how do we know it’s time to write a chapter, does it always have to come at some sort of bottom, and why does it feel so damn hard to do even when we know it is time?

  • When your mental health is slipping…start with your body.I say this with all the love in the world as a formerly depressed girlie (like, a lifer) who now lives joyfully: the annoying things people say about exercise and fresh air are (mostly) true (I’m sorry!), but they’re also not the whole story.

Errrr...shout out to BOTH my aunts who told me this shit a million times. But I just wasn't prepared to hear it, ya know? And just know that if that's you...I want this episode simply to be another way, another space, a safe one, for you to hear it even if you're not ready to HEAR it hear it <3In this episode I want to encourage you to stop thinking of mental health and physical health as separate linear paths, but to start seeing them as a linked circle - a cycle that can be affected by any number of inputs. Also I’ll share something cool I recently learned about sunlight and serotonin! Here's 5 (well, 6) places to focus when your mental health is slipping and you want to feel better.

Dive in and let me know if you need some support picking a tiny place to start - my DMs are literally always open (IG @cyn_maz)!

  • In this episode, I get personal and vulnerable, sharing with you how planning a solo 4 month trip actually saved my partner relationship - and everything that led to that decision.

I take you through the experiences I was going through with my partner, and how ultimately centering myself was what made our relationship work better than it ever had before.

I also share my partner’s thoughts on the whole experience and what shifted for him (with his permission!).

We get into cultural norms, my own expectations for myself, what happens when your dreams and that of your partner don’t match up, negotiating new boundaries, and much, much more. It was far from easy. In fact, a lot of the time I didn’t know if we could be saved.
But I’m so glad for what happened when I found my way back to myself, oriented to my North Star, my dream life, my values and once again became the girl I wanted to be… that it led us back to each other.

If you’d like to discover your highest “North Star” values, I encourage you to book a session - you can invite your partner, if you’d like!

  • In this episode of Girl in World podcast, I interview client and bestie, Shannon Shaughnessy on for the second time!

Shannon, while always my biggest supporter behind the scenes, was not a coaching convert until recently. So when she decided to give it a try (with me, obviously) and had immediate and decidedly BIG results, we agreed she had to come on and share her perspective.

From worrying the work would be "too much" or too hard, stressing that as her coach, I'd ask her to do things she didn't want to do (I would never! but I understand the fear), and just feeling nervous about trying something so new...

...to "I've never been this happy in my entire adult life!" in just six months - and yes, those were her exact words.

So listen in as Shannon shares what worked for her, what surprised her, and what she wishes more people knew about the "work" of designing your dream life.

  • I LOVE the beginning of a fresh year but hate resolutions. That said, this is not about ragging on anyone’s joy as they set themselves up for an amazing year ahead! Rather, it’s about supporting you into actually realizing those goals and making progress on your dreams with a format that’s easy to adapt to any goal, and the mindset shifts you need to see it through.

    In this episode I cover:

Why resolutions generally fail How to set goals that succeed Reflecting on the past year Planning your year for success Making adjustments along the way

I created a FREE Notion planner that takes you through each of these steps - the perfect companion to the episode! You can grab that free planner here (it will be delivered immediately!).

If you know you want to make 2024 your best year yet, filled with fun and love and purpose, but you’re not sure where to start and it feels overwhelming to do alone, consider joining Let’s Make Lemonade my 8 week group coaching program. We kick off February 1st! More details on Lemonade can be found by clicking right here.

  • Even though so much of life is routine, I want to argue that we don’t have to let our day-to-day be drudgery. In fact, I think the routine of life can be beautiful and comforting and filled with magic.

Consider for a minute, if your daily life, even your work life, contained a little bit more joy, how might that affect your sense of work-life balance and overall mental health? Could a little bit of routine *magic*, so to speak, help you avoid burnout, manage stress and enjoy your downtime even more fully?

Ritualizing your life is also an amazing way to bring back a sense of time into your schedule because it adds in joy without adding in additional tasks. The focus becomes tapping into joy as a whole body feeling - slowing down and utilizing natural gaps in the day for self-care. Breaking up with busy by connecting to those activities that fuel energy instead of zapping it.

Some of my fave ways to ritualize?

Putting my coffee mug in both hands and taking a big whiff of it before my first sip and then settling in for my first sip like it’s officially the best part of the day.
Making a game out of my daily walks. Some of my faves are “photo expedition”, “find the hearts”, “colourful combinations”, and “beautiful doors”.
I love lighting a candle, pouring my second cup of coffee, and sitting down and organizing my desk and calendar. The most rote actions, but somehow with a candle and a coffee they feel like a beautiful gem of a moment in my day.
I will make some kind of “fancy” drink to bring literally anywhere. It makes anything, even running an errands, feel like an event, like a special treat.
Pick a theme or identity for the day and (secretly or not so secretly) become it!

Some additional ways you could try adding in a bit of magic?

Use the science of colour psychology or just your own preferences to lean into a certain feeling for the week in whatever way you can. Maybe you’re craving more peace so you decide to use blue sticky notes all week, wear your favorite blue dress, and paint your nails blue. All week, it’s like you’ll have a little inside secret - and an automatic reminder - to what matters for you.
Put on your favourite song and give yourself the length of it to organize your desk, check out your calendar, and just bop for a minute before getting down to business.
Consider gifting every book you finish and love to someone else you think would love it, with a handwritten notecard inside. You’re ritualizing the act of letting go AND spreading magic. Kinda beautiful.
After a massage you could treat yourself to a fancy coffee. Or after therapy, go for ice cream and make that your new ritual, allowing it to cheer you up and shift you back into “regular life” again.
If you go to the beach, or the mountains or a park every day, consider ritualizing taking off your shoes and touching the Earth for a minute or two at the end.

  • What do you think of when I say “budget travel”? Do you think of grimy accommodations and not being able to enjoy a nice restaurant? Do you think of taking long, hot buses on winding roads and carrying a backpack around 15 countries for months on end?

What if I told you that budget travel, my way, could mean stretching your budget further, staying away longer, AND still having luxurious experiences that feel soothing and life affirming?

    We’ll talk about

  • Peek Behind the Curtain on a 20 Year Friendship with my guest (and bestie), Shannon Shaughnessy.

In this episode with one of my bestest friends (and longest relationships), we talk about what keeps friends together, how we navigate conflict, maintaining friendship over long distances, and much much more.

We touch on how society and life decisions can sometimes complicate female friendships unnecessarily, and how being really different has strengthened our bond. Plus, we share our very different dreams for our lives and ways of approaching…well, pretty much everything!

    A few spots of interest:

    6:19 - differences abound!

8:34 - how important is it to like each other’s spouses?

    16:37 - shared values

27:05 - the role giving each other the benefit of the doubt plays

30:26 - does not having kids affect our ability to remain close?

42.28 - what we do well when navigating conflict

43:06 - what solidified our friendship during a difficult time

50:35 - Q&A from IG - favourite hangout spots in Victoria and Calgary (Canada)

1:05:25 - what are our dream lives (hint: they’re very different)

  • What if you focused on opening up to what you want to invite IN instead of what you want to get rid of?

In this episode we talk about the power of asking yourself what you want more of to chart a path forward. This isn't toxic positivity, but it's undeniable the difference that calling in more of something (a feeling, a thought, an outcome) has in terms of manifestation turned into action (listen to Episode 03!) for getting you where you want to be.

As always you can email me at [email protected] or head to cynmaz.com for more of my work. Thank you for listening!

  • We can literally try on and start wearing however and whoever we want to be. And with enough practice and action to back it up, by manifesting and feeling into those ideas and emotions, we can start to change our lives. The action is the intention behind creating the feeling in your body on repeat, so that you mark a path for the universe to get you there and create a memory for your brain to harness in real time.

I'd love to hear from you! Email [email protected] or find more of my work at cynmaz.com

What did you think of today's episode!? What would you like us to go deeper on?

  • The going advice around the "perfect morning routine" being the key to unlocking your potential is a little...overhyped, if you ask me. Not only does it leave zero room for the ups and downs of life, but it doesn't take into account the way our brains work - and the differences between them.

So if it’s THE answer to living well (I say very sarcastically), then shouldn’t we be able to find a way to make it actually make sense?

So anyways, that’s what I have endeavoured to do and what I will share with you today.

We are going to cover 5 steps or alternate ways of thinking about your routines so that you can finally kick your morning routine OUT and build healthy habits that will stick.

And since my clients have tended to appreciate it, I hope you do too!

I even went so far as to make a workbook that I’m giving you for free to help you implement these ideas in a step-by-step process. you can download it for free at  cynmaz.com/routines

As always, you can email me at [email protected] with your ideas, thoughts, or themes to cover here on this podcast. I'm loving making it and I appreciate you being here!
