  • After Watches & Wonders, we're all a bit exhausted by new watch releases, so we decided it was time to do something fun: Another fantasy watch draft. And this time, we're tightening the parameters to get some more variety on the table. So I called up Danny, James, and Jonathan to build a four-watch collection with me.

    We're focused on our favorite watches of the 21st century. Any watch available to purchase in 2000 or later is eligible, except for the new releases we saw at Watches & Wonders a couple of weeks ago. Here's the big rule: Once a watch has been picked from a brand, NO other watch from that brand can be picked (i.e., once someone has chosen a Rolex, no one else can choose a Rolex in any category). Honestly, after our last draft when three of us picked Rolex sports watches, I wanted to get more variety on the table, and there has been so much good watchmaking in the last 24 years. The hope was that the draft would be a fun way to remember some of the best watches of the 21st century, so far. We also didn't choose any piece uniques or one-offs.

    Head to the site here to vote on the winner, and we'll announce the champ in a few weeks.

  • It’s our last day at Watches & Wonders in Geneva, so we’re recapping everything we saw. We talk about the best watches we saw all week, the best watches under $10,000, drop some of our spiciest takes, and then all of us – all seven of us – pick one watch we saw that we’d purchase, money no object.

  • Three days into the show and we’re all a bit slap happy and talking about some of our favorite novelties from Hermès, Cartier, Oris, Chopard, and Parmigiani. We also talk a bit about the general mood of the show, which we’ll discuss more on our final show tomorrow. But first, we talk about: Hermès’ new ladies’ watch and whether it’s actually a ladies’ watch; Oris’ new Aquis and why the lack of any mega releases might actually be the best thing for the Swiss watch industry; and we finish with dress watches from Chopard and Parmigiani Fleurier’s update of the Toric collection.

    Thanks to Lucid Motors for sponsoring this week’s live recordings of Hodinkee Radio from Geneva.

  • On day two, we talk about all of the watches we went hands on with during appointments with Cartier, TAG Heuer, Grand Seiko, IWC, Lange – and even the world’s new most complicated watch from Vacheron Constantin.

  • In our first episode from Geneva, Ben, Danny, and Malaika join me to discuss new releases from Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Tudor. GMTs headline the novelties from Rolex and Tudor. Rolex has brought its black-and-grey bezel to a steel GMT, while Tudor gave what so many have asked for – a Black Bay 58 GMT. We also talk about what it means that it’s a slower year for Rolex, that Tudor is becoming the Black Bay brand, and the new complicated stuff from Patek. We start it all off by chatting about the Le Mans Daytona in white gold (now discontinued!) and yellow gold (new!).

  • For this final episode, Ben is joined by Davide Cerrato, the CEO of Bremont. Cerrato has had a long and successful career in the watch industry since starting at Panerai in 2004. He's probably best known for his tenure at Tudor, during which the brand relaunched in the United States and introduced the Black Bay line. But he's not all business; the jovial and well-dressed Italian brings his unique sense of style to the staid Swiss watch industry. After Tudor, he made stops at Montblanc and HYT before being announced as the CEO of Bremont in May 2023. The announcement came after billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and Hellcat Acquisitions LP invested $59 million in Bremont in a funding round that the Financial Times reported valued the company at more than £100 million.

    As Cerrato tells us, Bremont is gearing up for a "relaunch" of the brand at Watches & Wonders in April 2024 – the first time it'll exhibit at the annual trade show in Geneva. In this Ben Clymer Presents conversation, Cerrato tells us about his vision for Bremont and the opportunities he sees, his 20-plus years in watches, and a little bit of Italian tailoring.

  • For the 9th installment of Ben Clymer Presents, Ben sits down with pro golfer Keith Mitchell, who is known not only for his golfing ability but also for his sense of style and his deep love of watches. Ben and Keith dig into everything from Keith's training to his family history in watches and what he brought in a watch roll to the recording to special creations from Laurent Ferrier, the pros and cons of playing with blades, and some extra cool references from Patek Philippe.

  • Welcome to a new podcast series from Hodinkee called Ben Clymer Presents. Hosted by Hodinkee's own founder, Ben Clymer Presents offers a special chat between Ben and subject experts from the world of watches and, sometimes, elsewhere. It's a limited series that will run weekly for the next ten weeks, with new episodes every Wednesday in both video and audio. Want the video? Swing by Hodinkee's YouTube channel (or watch below). //Episode 8 //

    For this Patek Philippe-focused episode, Ben is joined by John Reardon, the founder of Collectability.com (and former Hodinkee contributor). John is an expert in all things vintage Patek, and the two talk about where the brand's auction fascination started and how that has been reflected in a broad collection of special references (think: 3700 to 5711, and the likes of the 5970, 3970, 3448, 5270, 5070 chronograph, and even the legendary 2499).

    It's a walk down memory lane as both Ben and John recall exciting moments in their history with Patek's watches alongside the more macro trends that have seen some references shine while others wait for a spot in the limelight. We hope you love the episode – a big thanks to John for coming on the show; you can find more of his work at Collectability.com.

  • In this episode, Ben sits down with Hodinkee editors Mark Kauzlarich and Tony Traina. After a morning of previewing the New York watch auctions at Sotheby's and Phillips, the three chat about the state of the market and watch auctions before jumping into their thoughts on some of the watches they saw in New York. There's a discussion of vintage Patek and Rolex – including the collection of one collector beloved by the community – but also other brands, indies, and even our favorite Richard Milles. At the end of it all, the trio pick their favorite watches that they saw, as well as the lots they'll be watching to get a gauge on the state of the auction market.

    Sotheby's Important Watches auction takes place on December 7, and Phillips New York Auction: Nine happens on December 9–10. Both have public previews at their New York locations prior to the sale.

    // Episode 6 //

    Recorded on the same day that Lange launched the new Zeitwerk Minute Repeater in Honeygold, this episode features Ben chatting with Wilhelm Schmid, the CEO of A. Lange & Söhne. The two chat about the evolution of the brand on the eve of its 30th anniversary, the metric by which Lange measures its own success, what it takes to buy one of the brand's extra special limited editions and even some of Wilhelm's favorite non-Lange watches. It's a fascinating chat and a rare chance to better understand the perspective and philosophy guiding the influential and talented German brand.

Just want the audio? It's being published to the same podcast feed as Hodinkee Radio, so check your feeds or subscribe wherever you find your podcasts (might we recommend Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, or TuneIn).

    // Episode 5 //

    This episode features Ben chatting with Hodnkee's own Tony Traina (Editor) and Rich Fordon (VIP Adviser) about the upcoming fall auctions from Phillips, Sotheby's, Christie's, and Antiquorum (the catalogs for each are listed below, if available). From favorite lots, sleeper options, the return of the Brando GMT, and a whole lot more, the fall auction season kicks off this weekend, so we wanted to get a special extra episode in just in time to get you ready for the sales.
