Prior to joining Sinclair, John served as the Global CISO for Laureate Education, Inc., focused on supporting Laureate’s global footprint of universities and large student base – primarily located in the US, Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Brazil. Before supporting the commercial market, John spent over 20 years supporting the federal government – supporting secure infrastructure and information security missions for the intelligence community.

Stephen Gilmer is a Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C|CISO) with more than 25 years of experience as a technical expert and executive leader focused on securing technology companies’ most sensitive and valuable data and systems.
Stephen previously was in-house CISO at both a biotechnology startup and at two Fortune 10 aerospace, defense, and technology companies. In these roles, Stephen designed and implemented sensitive data and IP security control programs; shaped policy at the national level and security framework formation; and proactively resolved complex investigation, audit, and regulatory oversight issues.
Stephen is a Six Sigma Black Belt who led the transition of the IT infrastructure of a private start-up to address the regulatory and operational requirements of becoming a publicly-traded company.
As a CISO executive in an aerospace defense company subject to a consent agreement with the United States Government, Stephen also led global cyber investigations, risk analysis, engagement, and mitigation controls necessary for the organization to successfully navigate oversight requirements and re-establish credibility with Government customers. Stephen built and led the cyber security components required to support winning and executing multi-billion dollar government contracts. Adam began his career as an aerospace engineer working on cruise missiles, space vehicles and hypersonic missiles. He also worked at Southwest Airlines as Director of Purchasing and Director of Information Systems, and later as VP of Application Development for Yum! brands.
In 2000 he joined KPMG and built a successful IT and business consulting practice serving some of the most admired global companies in capital equipment, industrial mfg., and aerospace.
Adam left to join World Vision in 2006 as International CIO to strategically integrate a global, federated IT function with over 900 staff in 85 countries. The team built shared service centers in Asia, centers of excellence on four continents and a discipline to find and scale innovations in health care, education, agriculture and IT services.
Adam has also led start-ups in EdTech, GRC, and oncology informatics. In January of 2020 Adam cofounded the Carolina Cyber Center at Montreat College and the Carolina Cyber Network of 11 major colleges in North Carolina. Their vision is to build a national demonstration resource for developing regional cyber awareness, cybersecurity professionals of character, and hardening regional resources. They have been awarded over $16mm in DoD, State of North Carolina, NSA, and Department of Labor grants.
Adam is currently leading a passionate group of IT professionals supporting international missions. Having lived and worked in over 60 countries, Adam helped identify, develop and/or bring to market innovations in student/staff capacity development, digital marketing, IoT, food production automation, and guest experiences.
Adam also served as an adjunct professor at École des ponts ParisTech university for 9 years. While he’s passionate about learning new technologies and development methods, he’s also passionate about the “life skills” that bring competence, autonomy, and joy to one’s life and others. Adam loves mountaineering, competing in adventure races, working his ranch in Colorado, and spending time with his wife and four children.
When it’s hunting season, you can find him being humbled by an elk in the Rocky Mountains. Very excited and honored to have Adam as a guest!
