When I first got into the endurance world I was mainly focused on the training aspect but as I’ve learned and grown over the years, I’ve discovered that there is way more to it than that. Nutrition, rest, strength and sleep all play a major role in how we improve as athletes. If you're interested in taking the next step, ask yourself which of these other aspects do you know little to nothing about and take some time to learn more, you might be surprised how much of an impact it can have on how you perform.
On this episode of Just In Stride I broke down the success of Elite Swiss Marathoner and coach, Moritz Keinath.
Moritz played hockey and football growing up but actually didn’t enjoy running at all. It was only after a knee injury that he decided to give running another shot so he could get movement back in his life.
Today running has become much more for Moritz. It was a way to connect with his parents who were also passionate about the sport, a way for him to push his own limits and it also brought him closer to his local running community. He’s made huge strides in the marathon, now running at a semi professional level and hopes to better his time at the Berlin marathon later this year.

You may be asking yourself why this episode is titled “Fuel for Thought”. Any guesses?
I mean if you know me, you know I love a good old play on words, hence the name of this new series that I’ve produced with Xact Nutrition.
Athletes train for hours, work with coaches on technique, join workout groups and sign up for big challenges but one of the things we feel could be overlooked by athletes that is so critical, is education regarding nutrition and how it helps you perform.
So we’ve put together a multi episode series to discuss specific topics pertaining to just that, in hopes that you come away with more in depth knowledge and a better understanding of nutrition.
On this episode of Just In Stride, Fuel for Thought edition, we’ll debunk various nutrition myths, with Elite road and trail runner, Alister Gardner.
When it comes to nutrition and best practices, everyone has an opinion. Whether it’s using salt tabs, choosing between real food vs gels or bars, identifying an ideal race weight, fasting during workouts or using supplements, we’ll provide detailed explanations and discuss the importance of each one.So no matter if you’re an elite or just starting out, you’ll certainly gain something from this conversation and that’s no myth.
Here are some of the key questions we cover:-Does taking salt tablets prevent/stop cramping?
-Is supplementing with maltodextrin beneficial for endurance athletes?
-Is it better to fast or fuel before training?
-Does carb loading enhance race day performance?
-The lighter you are, the faster you’ll race.
-Real food is better than gels/bars

In endurance sports success doesn’t come quickly. It’s preparation over many days, weeks, months and years that usually yield the most success. It’s consistency over time that allows the body to move, adapt and recover that will provide us with longevity in the sport. Endurance sports is a lifestyle for many, so being able to do it through all stages of life often becomes the big picture goal.
On this episode of Just In Stride we dive into the unknown with endurance athlete, adventure racer and ultra coach, Jen Segger.
20 years ago Jen set out to be the best adventure racer she could, as she trained while exploring the beautiful province of British Columbia.
Over that time she’s completed numerous ultra trail events, multi-day expeditions and team adventure races too, almost always finishing on the podium or close to it. Today, she still competes with more passion than ever, as she continues to challenge herself and her athletes, as they reach for new heights.-------

As we move through life, we go through many different phases and priorities certainly change. Over time we grow and our appreciation for what’s important in life takes on different forms. That goes for family, friendships, careers and certainly our athletic goals too.
On this episode of Just In Stride we get to know Elite distance triathlete and top age grouper, Melanie Henderson.
Melanie started out as a track and field kid in her youth, always having fun with a healthy dose of competitiveness. She then moved from South Africa to the U.S in order to pursue a career as a pilot and that’s where a triathlete was born. She proved to be a natural in her very first Ironman 70.3, placing 3rd in her age group and earning a stop at the World Championships. From that moment on, she was hooked.
We unpack her early success in the sport, the lessons she’s learnt along the way, the sense of community she feels and the pilot athlete balance she’s trying to find, so she’ll be able to fly in all aspects of her life.

It’s been just over a year since I’ve started this new show and I have you to thank for standing by me as we’ve seen it grow. I’ve also been blessed to be supported by exceptional people who have believed in this project from the very beginning, so I’m thrilled to share a little bit more about one of their stories with you here today.
On this episode of Just In Stride Community Spotlight Edition, we’ll get to dig a little deeper into what fuels the man behind Xact Nutrition, founder, entrepreneur and community builder Lawrence Colsell. You might recognize Lawrence from interview number 2 but we wanted to bring him back to learn more about what makes him tick. We try to get a glimpse of what motivates him, the challenges he faces and how he stays so passionate after 12 years of building his dream.

My thoughts for today are around the idea that we should never take our good health for granted and I’ll tell you why. I recently had an accident that took me out of running or any sport for that matter for about a week and a half. It happened right outside my house on my bike going super slow, barely pedaling. There was a curb that my front tire cleared but my back tire did not and next thing I knew I was laying head first on the ground with blood dripping from my forehead. Stitches were required and I somehow had major bruising in my lower abdominal. It wasn’t fun and I couldn’t run. I was mad at myself for letting it happen, for not being more careful but of course it could always be much worse. I’ve slowly come back to running and so grateful to feel good doing it again. So be safe out there and cherish whatever form of movement you’re able to do today, wherever you’re at in the process.
On today’s episode of Just In Stride I sat down with Ultrarunner and adventurer, Faye Alice.
Faye grew up being active and ran for her school. Dance however was what she wanted to pursue as a career until she realized she may have reached her potential and decided to move on.Where dancing stopped, her running continued, finding joy on the roads and later on the trails. Over the years her passion has grown but also the distances as she takes on multi day races of 200 miles and beyond. Of course, with the Canadian Rockies as her training ground there’s endless opportunities to explore for hours on her own two feet.

When I first started running 14 years ago and signed up for races, I fell into the trap of wanting to jump into the next distance too quickly. A 10K turned into a half marathon which then led me to a marathon shortly after. I didn’t know much about the sport back then but if I had to go back I would stick with one distance for a while longer until I was comfortable to move up. Recently I’ve been racing some shorter stuff and I have to say I’m loving it. Preparing with less mileage, running fast, racing strategically and recovering quicker too. So if your goal is a marathon or ultra this year, find a fast 5 or 10K to get you out of your comfort zone, you might surprise yourself.
On this episode of Just In Stride I hit the trails with Elite sub-ultra marathoner, Remi Leroux.
In his youth he loved playing tennis and excelled at it. Despite his success he decided to give it up due to the lack of resources he felt he needed to remain competitive.
In fact, that’s what drew him to running so much. The idea that he could run anytime, anywhere, without training partners and really be in control of his results, made distance running very attractive. Remi progressed quite rapidly, signing up for a 5K and quickly jumped up to longer distances, leading him to the Ultra trails.
After years of ultra marathons, he realized he’d much rather race fast and challenge himself on the shorter mountain tracks. That transition has led him to some impressive results, racing 30 times in the last 2 seasons and finishing on 9 podiums in 2023 alone. Proof that running the distances you’re passionate and training for specific goals could be the key to your own success.-------

I love thinking about the idea that just because your life has been a certain way until this point, doesn’t mean you can’t change your own trajectory. Who you were 10, 5 or even last year is not the same person you are today. We live, we learn and we grow. Take the time to acknowledge the challenges and accomplishments in your life, and celebrate how far you’ve gotten.
On this episode of Just In Stride I had a pleasant chat with Elite Ultra Trail Runner and Nutrition Coach, Jazmine Lowther.
She had an active and competitive childhood but fell out of sports and into other interests that put her future in danger. Fortunately for her, she realized her own potential before it was too late.Today her focus is much different, becoming a pro ultra trail runner and going all in. Her breakout year was in 2022, winning the 100K as the underdog at Canyons, earning a Golden Ticket to Western States and finishing 4th in the CCC at UTMB in Chamonix. Unfortunately after that, injuries got in her way of realizing some of those dreams but she’s shown resilience, battled back and is ready to compete this upcoming season.

One of the things I truly believe in is if you’re passionate about something and you truly love doing it, then you’ll 100% be successful at it. It’s how people make a living doing what they love but nobody said it was easy, you need to put in the work and stay consistent. It takes trying, learning, succeeding and failing to truly make it work, making it all the more rewarding when it goes right. Set a goal but more importantly, draw out a plan to get where you want to go because the only person that can get you there is you.
On this episode of Just In Stride I had a really fun chat with pro ultra trail runner, Emily Hawgood.
Emily grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe and played all sorts of different sports as a kid. She later took a liking to long distance triathlon but with some encouragement from her now coach, turned to running on the trails and she never looked back.
Ultra running became her passion and she now does it professionally. Her results over the years have been impressive and so consistent from race to race, no matter the distance. It’s so clear she loves to run and that passion shines through every time she toes the line. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her finish on the podium at Western States later this year.

Part of what makes this show a success is your involvement, dedication and recommendations. When you like something about the show you let me know but when you have suggestions you let me know too and for that I’m grateful. It helps me learn, develop and grow as a creator that I hope will translate into an even better listening experience.
On this episode of Just In Stride I had an uplifting conversation with Olympic hurdler, Silver Medalist and Keynote Speaker, Sarah Wells. She wasn’t a natural athlete in high school by any means but her track coach saw potential in her that she didn’t see in herself and was he ever right.
Sarah harnessed that talent and became one of the best 400m hurdlers in Canada, ultimately landing her on the 2012 Olympic team in London. That achievement certainly didn’t come without its challenges and adversity along the way. She shares the power of belief in oneself and how to pursue excellence in our own race, in what was an incredibly inspiring conversation.

Have you ever wanted to stop everything in your life to do something that you’re truly passionate about? What if money wasn’t an issue and you had an abundance of time on your hands? What would you accomplish or set out to do? Maybe life looks different through that lens than it does at this very moment. Sometimes it’s good to reflect on what we really want out of life and create a vision for how we plan on getting there.
On this episode of Just In Stride we travel the world on foot with marathoner, explorer and documentarian, Ben Pobjoy.
Ben’s story is one of health, adventure and discovery. Once morbidly obese, he used movement and healthier eating habits to shed the weight and ultimately change his life.
He won’t wow you with his race splits, however, last year alone he completed more marathons than you’ll likely do in your entire life. That’s right, Ben quit his steady job, gathered whatever funds he had and traveled to 70 countries, while completing 242 marathons in the process. He was on a self supported mission to see the world, experience new cultures all on his own two feet and he’s here to share the journey with us all.

To set a goal and pour your life into it is something I’ve always admired about endurance athletes. For many professional runners, the Olympics is the ultimate achievement. The chance to be amongst the best in the world, compete in a world class event and to put on your country’s colors is an opportunity of a lifetime.
On today’s episode of Just In Stride we get a pro’s perspective with elite marathoner Rory Linkletter.
Rory found running through school and really never looked back. As he progressed, he realized there were opportunities for him in the sport and had the drive to succeed.
Today, he’s one of the fastest Canadian distance runners there is. Training full time in Flagstaff with Coach Ryan Hall by his side, he’s had an impressive stretch of races. All leading up to the Seville marathon in February, where he hopes to put together his best performance yet and crack the Canadian Olympic team.

Happy New Year everyone. I’m excited for the year ahead and I can’t wait to share more inspiring stories with you all. For many of us January can symbolize a fresh start or a new beginning. But it’s important to realize that we can make changes at any moment in our lives regardless of the day, month or year. Set a goal, make a plan and take the necessary steps to get there.
On this episode of Just In Stride, get ready to be inspired by Paralympic bronze medalist, keynote speaker and author, Kevin Rempel.
Kevin grew up learning how to work hard and the value of a dollar. He also loved motocross and the thrill it gave him. Until one day, a tragic accident took that away and at 23 he was told he would never walk again.
Today, Kevin has defied the odds, learning to walk again, becoming an Paralympic athlete in sledge hockey, speaking in front of large audiences and even wrote his own book. He speaks passionately about what he calls “The Hero Mindset”, where by focusing on small things that make a big difference we can become a hero in your own story.
Check out www.kevinrempel.com to learn more about his keynote speaking or coaching. -
As the end of 2023 approaches, it’s fun to look back and see everything we’ve been through. The wins, the loses, the challenges, the triumphs, the hardship and the moments of joy. Personally, as much as I use this time to reflect on the past, I also love to learn from those experiences and see how I can improve moving forward.
On this episode of Just In Stride we uncover some valuable tools with Olympic lifter, runner and mental skills coach, Cam Charbonneau.
She’s been a high performance athlete her entire life. Whether it’s rugby, lifting, martial arts or running, Cam always strives to train and perform at the highest level.
As a professional mental skills coach, she gets to share her own experience with others and help athletes navigate their own mental struggles, allowing them to achieve optimal performance. We covered a wide range of topics from self talk, to confidence, planning, goal setting and recovery too, all of which can be applied in many aspects of life, not only sports.Cams Offer to You: If you'd like to purchase her Performance Planner: Inner Pace, you'll get 30% OFF when you use promo code JUSTINSTRIDE Innerpace (myinnerpace.com)

Winning isn’t everything but it’s certainly nice when it happens. For pro runners especially it can make a huge difference in sponsorship contracts, annual income and quality of life too.
On today’s episode of Just In Stride we get into a winning mindset with Elite Marathoner, CJ Albertson.
Talking to CJ one thing was clear, he loves to run but also loves to win. Most recently he did just that at the California International Marathon in a staked field.
His competitive nature is something he’s had from a young age and he understands that to be the best you need to beat the best. Something he hopes to do at the upcoming Olympics Trials in Orlando next February.

When we think about training for endurance sports, we often consider having a training plan, perhaps a coach, the proper equipment but nutrition and fueling somehow gets lost in the shuffle. In shorter distances we can get away with being negligent but nutrition becomes increasingly important the further we go.
On today’s episode for Just In Stride, we dove into the importance of nutrition with Elite Marathoner and sport dietician, Rachel Hannah. Rachel Hannah (@rachelhannahrd) | Instagram profile
Rachel is no stranger to running, in fact she’s been doing it since the age of 7. She ran throughout her academic years, receiving a university scholarship and later took up the sport professionally. To complement her career as a pro athlete, she’s also a registered dietitian, which has not only enabled her to help others but has given her the knowledge to uncover some of her own deficiencies. Now healthier than ever, Rachel hopes to build on what’s been a successful season.

I’m actually recording this on my 39th birthday. As tradition would have it, I woke up bright and early to complete 39 kilometers to celebrate 39 years of life. With that comes some reflection about running itself and why I do it in the first place. Sure the tests we face on race day are great but it’s the daily act of lacing them up that’s what I enjoy the most.
Endurance sports have given me structure, strength, good health, discovery, adventure, pleasure and of course the sense of community.
The goals we set will change over time but movement is something that can remain constant.
On today's episode of Just In Stride I touched on all aspects of running with Elite Marathoner and Writer, Peter Bromka.
Peter’s love for running is clear and it’s been part of him for his entire life.
It was a pleasure hearing about his journey.
From his pursuit of the Olympic Trials, coaching, training and using creative outlets to share his passion with others.
Certainly, he’s had an influence on people through his accolades but it’s his words that resonate and impact fellow runners all over the world.

I often say that social media is a two edged sword. On one hand, it can consume our time and we can easily compare ourselves to others, putting us in a negative mental space. On the other, we can document our journey and share it with anyone out there willing to listen, potentially impacting someone in a more positive way. I much prefer the latter if I do say so myself.
On today’s episode of Just In Stride I had the chance to connect with Ultrarunner and content creator, Rob Perez.
Rob got into running as a way to prepare for the intense training he experienced during his time with the U.S Navy. He built his base running 5 miles daily, quickly jumping into ultra running events covering 50 kilometers and beyond.
After years of consistency, Rob took on the challenge and completed The Speed Project Solo earlier this year and plans on completing the international edition, by crossing the Atacama desert this November. Above all else, Rob loves creating useful running content on his social platforms, covering registration hacks, training tips, fueling advice and so much more. All in an attempt to help fellow runners as he hopes to make running more available and accessible to all.

Every so often you come across someone who is a shining light. Who can brighten up your day. Who can make you laugh and who has the ability to change the lives of the people around them, for the better.
Today on Just In Stride I introduce you to queer entrepreneur, gym owner, and strength and conditioning coach, Heidi Rubin aka “Captain Fun”.
Being an athlete and adventure seeker has always been part of life for Heidi. Less so on the competitive side but more about how moving the body can generate a positive impact. Whether it is strength training, roller derby or now running, Heidi has always found a way to do just that.
Through The Infinity Movement studio, Heidi has been able to create a brave space for marginalized people in the community. Welcoming them with open arms, providing them the same access, opportunity and love as the rest of the World. The Infinity Movement

Every so often someone special comes across my social media feed and is doing something incredible. I guess that’s the blessing, that we can connect with strangers through one common passion and in this case it’s running.
On this episode of Just In Stride I spoke with ultra runner and mental health advocate Sachin Latti.
He didn't start out as a runner but has been a high level athlete his whole life, competing in wrestling, bodybuilding and jiu jitsu. It was during Covid that Sachin found his stride, using running as a way to stay active and work through troubling times, as many of us can relate.
Through this new way of movement he fell in love with the sport, taking on longer and more challenging distances. Having a career in law enforcement opened his eyes to the troubles active and retired members of service face each day, and wanted to do something about it. So he’s running to raise money and awareness for his community, most recently taking on 22 marathons in 22 days in support of veterans and first responders mental health.
