In this episode of Ladies In Red, dive into the latest updates from Arsenal Women.
With the international break now over, our players delivered standout performances. Crucial victories were secured in Euro qualifiers and friendlies. From Frida Maanum’s goal-scoring masterclass for Norway to Katie McCabe’s leadership for Ireland, we’ve got all the main highlights.
However, this goal spree dried up as we returned to WSL action. I break down the recent match against Manchester United. An Alessia Russo goal looked to secure three points, only for United to equalize late on. The team’s struggles with finishing remain, and we’re asking the hard questions: Why are our players prolific on the international stage but falling short at the club? And how can communication on the pitch improve?
Finally, Edu Gaspar’s surprise departure as Arsenal's sporting director has left fans wondering about the impact on both the men’s and women’s teams. Edu’s commitment to Arsenal Women has been immense, influencing recruitment and strategy alignment. Could this explain the delay in naming a permanent manager for the women's squad? We’ll unpack what Edu’s exit might mean for the club's future and discuss how Arsenal might ensure continuity with a new hire.
Join me for a full episode as we reflect on the international break and Arsenal’s path forward in this (frustrating) season.

Arsenal Women's showed character and had an impressive response after Jonas Eidevall's resignation. The Gunners secured back-to-back wins under interim head coach Renée Slegers.
We’ll examine the key moments from their victories over Vålerenga in the Champions League and West Ham in the WSL. Has the team turned a corner, or is this just a temporary boost?
We’ll also explore what’s changed tactically under Slegers. Has there been a noticeable shift in the players’ mentality and performance? What do these results mean for the rest of the season? Is Slegers making a case to stay on, or does Arsenal still need a permanent head coach to step in?
And, most importantly, is this season back on track for the Gunners?
With the international break coming up, we'll discuss how the squad can build on this momentum and whether these wins are a sign of long-term recovery or a short-term lift. Tune in as we review the matches, highlight standout performances, and look ahead to what’s next for Arsenal Women!

This week on Ladies in Red, I am joined by Michael from the Arsenal Above All podcast for a deep dive into one of the biggest shocks in recent Arsenal Women’s history—Jonas Eidevall’s sudden, yet not surprising, resignation as head coach.
Originally, we planned to break down the weekend’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Chelsea at the Emirates. However, the news of Eidevall’s departure has taken center stage. We unpack everything from his tumultuous tenure to what comes next for the Gunners.
With Arsenal sitting 6th in the WSL, their worst start in over a decade, this decision didn’t surprise many, especially given the lack of goals, identity, and recent form. We reflect on Eidevall’s mixed legacy, from the highs of reaching a Champions League semi-final and winning two Continental Tyres League Cup titles to the growing frustrations of predictability in his tactics and inconsistency in team selection.
Michael and I discuss key issues that plagued his time at Arsenal. These include the team’s struggles in front of goal and the departure of star player Viv Miedema, who many feel was never fully backed by the club after injury, a move that may have contributed to the team’s drop in morale. We also explore how fan sentiment—like the graffiti outside the Emirates—has shifted as the team endured their worst home run in a decade.
With assistant coach Renée Slegers taking charge as interim head coach, we look at what her next two games mean for her future and the club. We also debate possible long-term replacements for Eidevall. From Arsenal legends like Kelly Smith to established WSL managers like Casey Stoney and Carla Ward, we speculate on who could come in to rebuild the squad and restore the team’s winning mentality.
As we gear up for Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures against Vålerenga in the Champions League and West Ham in the WSL, Michael and I discuss whether there’s still hope for this season or if the focus needs to shift toward long-term rebuilding.
Is this season already lost, or is there still everything to play for? And who’s the right leader to guide Arsenal Women back to the top? Tune in for an honest, in-depth conversation on where the team stands and what the future holds.

In this episode of Ladies In Red: An Arsenal Women's Podcast, I reflect on what has been a frustrating and disappointing week for Arsenal fans.
After the excitement of last week, things took a turn, starting with a lackluster 0-0 draw against a struggling Everton side in the WSL. Dropping points at home in the Emirates is something we just cannot afford if we truly want to challenge for the title this season. With goals becoming increasingly elusive, I dive into why our attack is faltering and why this game felt more like a warning than just an off day.
The Everton result wasn’t just about missed chances; it highlighted a recurring problem for Arsenal—breaking down teams that sit in a low block. Despite creating several opportunities, our inability to convert big chances is worrying. Everton defended well, but this is a team that other top sides, like Chelsea and Man City, typically break down with ease. I’ll break down Jonas Eidevall’s post-match comments and look at the concerning stats, including Arsenal’s poor conversion rate despite creating more chances than anyone else in the league. Are we falling into old habits?
I also turned my attention to the midweek UWCL defeat to Bayern, a game that exposed even deeper issues. Arsenal looked flat and lacking intensity, and questions about Eidevall’s tactics are becoming louder. Have you hear what Ian Wright had to say about Arsenal Women recently? Yikes.
I explore whether the team’s inconsistent form, one-dimensional playing style, and lack of cohesion are pointing towards a larger systemic problem. Is Jonas’ position under threat? What needs to change before it’s too late, especially with a massive game against Chelsea on the horizon? Tune in for a breakdown of all these issues and more.

Welcome to another exciting episode of Ladies In Red: An Arsenal Women’s Podcast!
This week, we're looking back on Arsenal Women’s recent performances. We start with our first leg against Häcken in the Champions League qualifiers, followed by the much-anticipated WSL opener against Manchester City—and the return of Vivianne Miedema.
Join me as I chat with Luce Casey, or Luce Chats Sports, an amazing creator known for her love of the Gunners. We delve into the less-than-ideal start to the 2024/25 season, discussing what went wrong in Sweden, resulting in a 1-0 defeat. We're we unlucky or just not clinical enough in front of goal? Is our style of play become too predictable? If we miss out on European football this season, what will that mean for Jonas Eidevall? Still, with the return leg pending this week, there’s all to play for.
We’ll also reflect on a slightly better, but still imperfect, start at the Emirates in front of an impressive 41,000 spectators. The team fought hard for a point in a 2-2 draw, with goals from Frida Mauunm and Beth Mead. But will it be enough alongside a fellow title contender over the course of the season? We talk about the positives and the negatives. And we look ahead to the next matches: Arsenal's second leg against BK Häcken and our first away game to Leicester in the league.
Tune in for all the insights!

In this heartfelt episode, I’m joined by Sophie from GoonerGossipTV and we bid farewell to one of Arsenal’s all-time greats, Vivianne Miedema. ❤️
Following Arsenal Women’s final game of the season, we delve into the details of our spectacular 5-0 victory. A Russo brace and a delightful goal and assist from Miedema in her final game gave us a happy ending to a rather disappointing season. Arsenal debuted their new kit for next season, and we share our thoughts on its fresh look. 👕✨
We also discuss the other crucial matches of the final day, including Chelsea’s impressive 6-0 win over Manchester United to secure yet another WSL title in Emma Hayes' final season in charge. Despite finishing on the same number of points, Man City just missed out on disrupting Chelsea's run because of goal difference. ⚽🏆
We reflect on the rollercoaster season, highlighting both the brilliant and the not-so-great performances that saw Arsenal finishing third for the second consecutive year. We celebrate players returning from long-term injuries, praise Lotte Wubben-Moy (our player of the season) and discuss other players who made a significant impact, like Lia Walti and Alessia Russo. 👏💪
We also delve into the bittersweet moment of Miedema’s departure, how impressive her record as an Arsenal player has been and how much we’ll miss her on the pitch. We bid farewell to other players who have announced they will also be leaving and speculate how the squad will be bolstered over the summer. 😢👋
Recognising the fans' incredible support, we celebrate the numerous records broken this season and the exciting announcement that more games will be played at the Emirates next season - a fantastic step in the right direction for the club and its supporters 🙌🎉.
Looking ahead, we discuss potential new signings and our hopes for Arsenal’s future, aiming to challenge for the league title. Join us for an episode filled with reflection, celebration, and optimism as we honour a true Arsenal legend and anticipate a bright future. 🌟🔴⚪
Thank you for all your support for the podcast over this season and I look forward to next season already!

We bid farewell to Arsenal's mathematical chances at the title following a lacklustre 1-1 stalemate against Everton. My sincerest apologies, maybe I jinxed it with the last episode's optimistic title, "Finding Form," which, alas, was short-lived. 😓
Arsenal Women hit Merseyside with a promising start, but missed opportunities haunted us throughout the match. Despite a spirited effort, Everton's resilience ultimately led to a heartbreaking equaliser in the dying moments; the final nail in the coffin of our WSL aspirations. 🤧
On the grand scale of things, this was not the most shocking result of the weekend with City, one of the two teams remaining in contention, hammering four past Bristol City (confirming their relegation) and Chelsea dropping points in a spectacular 4-3 thriller at the hands of Liverpool. This season has been crazy! 🎢
That brings us to our next game... against league-leaders City. Can Arsenal still have a say in the WSL title? Will City drop points against us again this season? Or will Emma Hayes finish her reign as Chelsea Manager trophyless? There is so much to look forward to as a football fan in the final few remaining games of the season. ⚽️🏆

A deep dive into Arsenal Women's recent matches against Bristol City and Leicester City. Finally, the team is showing the form and quality we have expected all season. Better late than never!
The Bristol City clash marked a triumphant return from the international break, with Arsenal dominating from the start. Braces from Mead and Russo showed the team's attacking prowess, and an outstanding performance from Captain Little who managed a near-perfect game in terms of pass accuracy (as well as everything else). Despite Bristol's struggles, fighting for their lives near the bottom of the table, Arsenal's performance left no doubt about their superiority.
With over 40.000 tickets sold for the Leicester City game at the Emirates, anticipation was high. Despite missing key players like Wobben-Moy and Walti, the Gunners displayed their prowess on the field, yet again, securing another comfortable 3 points and (perhaps more importantly) Champions League qualification for next season.
With three games left in the WSL, we look forward to our next match against Everton and much more in this episode!

I think I've seen this script before... Is this the Arsenal Women's way of playing? Making life as difficult for themselves as possible despite dominating in possession? This is exactly what we have come to expect from Arsenal in the 23/24 season.
In the latest episode, we unravel the highs and lows of our WSL clash against Villa at Villa Park, a quintessential display of the Arsenal ethos. Despite commanding possession and limiting the home team to just one shot (in the entire game), we were down at half-time. Is this rollercoaster style sustainable? Defensive lapses and missed opportunities—they will be offering us to trademark this style next! 🎢
But fear not, victory prevailed with a stellar second-half performance, all thanks to Pelova, Wubben-Moy, and Blackstenius, whose goals clinched the crucial three points. Alongside our match analysis, we delve into the other action from last weekend's Women's Super League, exploring noteworthy results which included two major derbies. I look forward to the upcoming Conti-Cup showdown against Chelsea. Will history repeat itself? 🏆💥
Tune in for insights, analysis, and a dash of optimism as we navigate the twists and turns of Arsenal Women's journey. Let's make this season one to remember! The highs and lows, the triumphs and challenges—it's all part of being a Gooner! 🎉 #COYG #ContiCupFinal #LadiesInRedPodcast ⚽🔴

The bridge has been burnt. Our bridge to a WSL trophy, that is. 🔥
A detailed post-match analysis of Arsenal Women's challenging clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. In this episode, I delve into the nail-biting drama that unfolded both on and off the pitch. ⚔️
Before the game even began, controversy reared its head as a kit clash threatened to disrupt proceedings. Arsenal's arrival in white socks led to an unexpected scramble, with the team ultimately forced to don Chelsea's away socks adorned with makeshift duct tape-covered crests—a symbol of the chaos that ensued. 🧦🔵
The match kicked off with a sluggish start for Arsenal, a stark contrast to Chelsea's dynamic play led by the formidable Lauren James. As Chelsea surged ahead, it became apparent that Arsenal's mismanagement and tactical decisions were coming under scrutiny. I question whether the starting eleven was the right choice or if sticking with the lineup that secured victory against Villa in the previous match would have been wiser. 🤔⚽️
Criticism mounted, with Arsenal's performance labelled as "soft" by none other than football legend Ian Wright. From defensive lapses to midfield struggles, the analysis dissects key moments that highlighted Arsenal's vulnerabilities and the challenges they faced against a relentless Chelsea side. 💥🔍📉
Time to pull our socks up, and focus on the next game.🎙️⚽️

I dissect the dominant performance against struggling Villa, unlocking Arsenal's best shot at silverware this year. 🥇 From standout players to tactical brilliance, we break down all the elements that contributed to the team's success. 🧠⚽ Is this the starting 11 we should field in every game moving forward? Is the Russo-Blackstenius combination up top the magical answer to all our burning questions? 🔥✨
But before the cup excitement, we rewind to a bustling international break. 🌍 Players represented their nations in the W Gold Cup and the Nations League Finals, while others fought for a chance to shine at the Olympics this summer. 🏅 I highlight some standout performances and unfortunately, share some unwanted injury news from the window. 😢💔
Back on the domestic front, our first post-break challenge unfolded in a highly anticipated WSL clash at the Emirates stadium against north London rivals, Spurs. Would Spurs pull off the unthinkable and snatch all 6 points from the Gunners, or would the sold-out Emirates stadium loudly proclaim that north London is undeniably red? 🔴⚪ Brace yourself for the suspense!

On the final episode for the year, we recap the rollercoaster ride that was the 2023 calendar year for Arsenal Women. From exhilarating highs to heart-wrenching lows, the journey unfolded with passion, determination, and a commitment to growth.
🌟 Highs and Lows of 2023:From triumphant victories to the challenges that tested the team's resilience, this year had it all.
💔 Heartbreaking Champions League Exit:Relive the intense moments of the 22/23 Champions League, where dreams collided with heartbreak in the semi-finals. Despite crashing out to Wolfsburg so close to the final, it is a game that is remembered so fondly by supporters, particularly after missing out on European football this season.
🚑 League Setbacks and Injury Struggles:With long-term injuries to the likes of Williamson and Little, it is fair to say injuries played a pivotal role in Arsenal's league performance. With these players now returning, do we now have a difficult choice of deciding who starts?
🏆 Conti Cup Triumph:With disappointment in other competitions, Arsenal were able to celebrate a win over rivals Chelsea in a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Blues.
⚽ World Cup Mania:The '23 World Cup proved to be a turning point for the Women's game. We focus on some standout performances from Arsenal stars and of course, the kiss that sparked the discourse and change regarding the treatment of women in the game.
🔍 Importance of Women's Football Interest:Explore the impact of increased interest on the sport's growth and the positive changes it can bring about.
🔄 A Mid-Season Recap:With ten games played in the WSL now, we are almost at the halfway point. Although Arsenal sit in 3rd position and still very much in contention to go on and push Chelsea all the way, the performances have left a lot to be desired in some games this season. From beating Chelsea 4-1 to losing our first NLD in a week, I ask whether the inconsistency in our performances comes from the improvement of other teams in the league or if it is a result of complacency.
🔮 January Outlook: A Month of Challenges and Transitions
Following the winter break, we face a demanding schedule, requiring the team to return in peak form. Over the final two weeks of January, the team is set to engage in a challenging lineup of four games across three competitions. Adding to the excitement is the upcoming January transfer window, fueling speculation about potential arrivals and departures. *
