This is Episode 3 of my Album Series on the Life & Lens Podcast and Iâm going to share my album design process from beginning to end.When I first started selling albums, I had no idea how to design albums. I thought to myself, âhoowww do I do this??â and Iâm guessing many of you might have had the same thoughts if you are new to selling albums.

Over the last 4 years I have tried and tested so many things when it comes to my wedding albums. Iâve taken all the learnings from my experiences with my clients and refined my process.

In this episode of the Life & Lens Podcast, join me for my podcast interview on Andrew Hellmichâs PhotobizX podcast about navigating moving from the high-end client to the luxury market and how I create styled shoots that are campaigns for my brand.
PhotobizX is a go-to podcast with Andrew Hellmich for aspiring and established photographers. On his weekly podcast he interviews successful photographers from around the world to uncover how they run their photography businesses, whether wedding, portrait or headshot photography and turn a profit. Heâs interested in what photographers really do in their business, exposing âhowâ they run their business so that we can shortcut the road to success.
In our interview, we talk about how launching my business with the specific goal to the worldâs best wedding photographer, changed the trajectory of my success. Rather than entering as an entry-level wedding photographer, I crafted a brand and marketed myself to the high-end niche. From the outset, I wanted to attract high-end clients, planning luxury weddings with an editorial aesthetic. Was I open about my experience? Absolutely, I was and always am transparent about my experience as a fashion photographer who pivoted to shooting weddings. What attracted my ideal clients to me was my luxury branding, personal brand and strategic content from fashion backstage and styled shoots. I also think that putting your big goals and dreams out into the universecreates a magnetic force where people want to support you; so why not put it out there?
As I transition from the high-end to luxury client, listening back to this podcast has been a chance to reflect on how my business is evolving. I hope you enjoy the PhotobizX interview and that you can take from it some gems of advice that you can implement in your own business today.

As engagement season approaches, I had a chat with a wedding vendor friend who, after tuning into my Boundaries episode (episode 7), is re-evaluating her approach to ideal clients and wedding bookings. It got me thinkingâthis season, when everyone is getting engaged around Christmas and New Year's, is the perfect time to reassess our boundaries and set goals for the upcoming year. In this episode, I share insights on what weddings I want to shoot, pricing considerations, and the importance of self-care and reflection.
As photographers and wedding creatives, we need to be ready for enquiries during engagement season. Establish early on that your couple portraits are not a photoshoot; remove all expectations that you provide direction so the portraits are authentic to them. Have a few go-to prompts to bring the coupleâs faces closer together and capture their reaction, such as âwhisper something into the groomâs earâ, âstiff the brideâs earâ or âthink about the favourite part of your partnerâs face and touch itâ.Acknowledge that being in front of the camera can feel awkward; there is no world where itâs not awkward to be in front of the camera at least for a few moments and if it is, encourage them to turn toward each other and feel that awkwardness together. Step back and walk away so theyâre tiny in the frame; let your couple have this private moment and by the time you return theyâre more relaxed. By setting up this environment, theyâre able to be more intimate with each other.

I was inspired to sit down and inspired to record this podcast because I realised this morning, that I set boundaries 12 months ago and now, I am (finally) reaping the rewards. Today, I feel calm and like life is spacious and I want to hold on to that feeling and share with you how I got here.
In this episode, I explore how boundaries were not part of my life before I started by business and my family (fomo over here!). To be honest, I learnt the hard way; I struggled with being present in my family life, I was exhausted rolling from one shoot to the next, shooting weddings that didnât make me feel inspired, feeling drained and overwhelmed by a backlog of editing.
For all the listeners of the Life & Lenâs Podcast, I share each of the boundaries I set for this wedding season here on my blog. I hope they inspire you to set boundaries (if you donât have any!) or at least reflect on whether the boundaries you have in place right now are really working for you, your business and your family-life. For those of you that are working parents and find the juggle of parenting and running a business a challenge (I feel you!), I have a free download with 6 actionable steps that have really helped me thrive in the last 12 months.

Setting Boundaries means thinking âfuture me will thank me for thisâ. We create boundaries so we can have longevity in our business and in our personal life. One of my key boundaries is; âdoes it light me up? If not, donât do itâ. Protecting my energy and creativity is more important to me than money. I can always find other ways to make money, than taking work that doesnât bring me joy.Boundaries are meant to be set, broken and reset; donât be afraid to protect or update your boundaries as your personal life and business evolves. There are times when your family life needs more of your time and energy than your business does and that is ok.Block out time for yourself. If youâre a terrible boss and donât give yourself time to rest and a weekend off, then you need to reassess things. Hustling and working hard, means you sacrifice other things.
