The Colorado Avalanche started and ended their matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets the way you would want the Avs to play against any team, let alone the Blue Jackets. It was the in-between where Columbus cashed in, which was enough to put the Avalanche away, 4-1.
Bottom line is the Avs can't lose to a team like Columbus at this stage in the season. But did they play well? The stats say they did. But the stats don't matter much when you don't have two in the standings.

The Colorado Avalanche and New York Rangers went toe to toe Thursday night, and then let a shoot-out decide the winner.
A great game from start to finish saw the Avalanche drop the extra point in the shoot-out, and to add salt in the wound, Nathan MacKinnon's two streaks came to an end, but not without some controversy surrounding an assist he was initially given but was then taken away.
There was also a questionable goal from the Rangers that Jared Bednar challenged but was not overturned. Should it have been?

This team is never out of it. Even trailing 4-0 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Colorado Avalanche found a way to get it done. Five straight goals, with the 5th coming in overtime by Jonathan Drouin lifted the Avs to their 9th straight win and they now have the outright lead in the division.

The Colorado Avalanche continue to roll in month of March as a 4-3 win over a very game St. Louis Blues team gave the Avs their 7th straight win as well as competing their four game road trip with eight points.
Mikko Rantanen lead the way with a hat trick, Nathan MacKinnon kept his points streak alive, and Justus Annunen provided another solid performance.
Unfortunately it wasn't all good news for the Avalanche Nation on Tuesday. Former Avalanche forward and member for the 95-96 Stanley Cup Winning team Chris Simon passed away. We remember him.

Artturi Lehkonen will not be on any Christmas card lists from any Edmonton Oiler fans or players. His goal Saturday night in Edmonton, off an incredible pass from Nathan MacKinnon, with less than a second left in overtime, gave the Colorado Avalanche the two points, their sixth straight win, and third win on this four game road trip. The Avs can sweep the trip with a victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

The Colorado Avalanche might not have had the lead after the first period, but you got the sense that if they kept up that style of play, things would work in their favor. Boy did they.
The Avs found the net five times in the second, and then put the car in cruise control for the 3rd to complete a pretty convincing and dominant win over the Calgary Flames, 6-2.

The road has not been kind to the Colorado Avalanche this season. That is no secret. So a four game road trip might have some fans concerned about how many of the eight possible points the Avs can take. Very valid concern.

We got some news from head coach Jared Bednar on some injuries surrounding some Colorado Avalanche players.
First was Gabriel Landeskog. The Avs have a timeline on when they even want to consider Landy returning, and that is minimally a year from when he had his recent surgery which was May of 2023. So a round 1, game 1 return will not happen. Round 2? Maybe. But is it even worth it?
Second was Logan O'Connor. LOC has been out recently with a lower body injury. We know now that it was hip related and he will have surgery to fix the issue. It will also keep him out of the rest of the season and playoffs.
Finally, while we didn't get an update on Avs prospect Nikolai Kovalenko we know he finished his KHL career being helped off the ice after taking a hit with only minutes left in his season. Now we wait to see how severe it is.

What a day that was.
The Colorado Avalanche threw their hat into the trade season with two big deals. One brought defenseman Sean Walker in from the Philadelphia Flyers while sending a first round pick and Ryan Johansen to Philly.
That deal immediately had people thinking something else was brewing, and we didn't have to wait too long to realize it was. Bowen Byram was sent to the Buffalo Sabres for Casey Mittelstadt.
We have thoughts.
Oh! And the Avs played a game as well against the Detroit Red Wings, and that went even better than expected with a dominating win.

The Colorado Avalanche have traded for defenseman Sean Walker and forward Casey Mittlestadt in a pair of separate deals with the Philadelphia Flyers and the Buffalo Sabres, sending a first-round pick and Ryan Johansen to Philly, and Bowen Byram to Buffalo. The Colorado Avalanche took care of business again against the Chicago Blackhawks, which doesn't sound very difficult, but when you have an inexperienced and young goalie who shut them out two straight games, that means something.
Justus Annunen is making a case for the Avalanche backup goalie position with his last three starts, and you could argue the case is closed at this point. Two shutouts and another very good showing against the Detroit Red Wings, how can the Avs not be happy? Will he get another crack at the Wings when they come to town on Wednesday? The Colorado Avalanche followed up two very well played games against the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks with a dud against the Nashville Predators. Optimists will say the game wasn't decided until the 3rd period, but were any of us really happy with how the game was going through the first two periods? We sure were not.
This has been the season for the Avs. The good, the bad and the ugly. Hopefully, another matchup with the Blackhawks on Monday will get the team a relatively easy two points.
One thing going around social media was more Cale Makar talk, and if something is wrong enough for the Avs to give him rest to be fully healthy for the playoffs. We discuss.
