Penn State football coach James Franklin is accused of meddling into the medical affairs of his players in a wrongful termination lawsuit at Penn State brought forward by one of the team's former doctors. Dr. Scott Lynch and Franklin did not appear to see eye to eye on several matters unveiled in emails presented in the case.
We should point out college football coach James Franklin is not a defendant in this case. However he has been mentioned in testimony. The defense will bring former Penn State football players Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley to testify that they were satisfied how their injuries were treated while at Penn State. This lawsuit will be of particular interest to many college football coaches and fans.
SUPER REGIONALS!
Congrats to the Nebraska Huskers for winning the Big Ten Baseball Tournament with a win over Penn State over the weekend. The Huskers now head to the Stillwater NCAA Super Regional and will face the Florida Gators on Friday. More congrats to the Indiana Hoosiers and Big Ten regular season champions Illinois for gaining at large bids to the Super Regional as well. Find out where they play here!

Former Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh really wanted to stay at Michigan according to a brand new book about him. However, distrust for administrators and strong dislike for the NCAA, which always seemed to hound the college football coach, forced him to jump to the NFL and coach the Los Angeles Chargers.

In all fairness, it seemed like Harbaugh long wanted to return to the NFL and the Chargers gig pays significantly more money. Although Michigan was about to make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in college football. Nevertheless, he is gone and the undefeated 15-0 national championship season is in the rear view mirror.
Add Nebraska football to the list of teams that is not psyched about playing on Friday night as part of the FOX Friday night college football broadcast package. They fear their September home game vs Illinois may put their sell-out streak at risk. That particular game would be 400 consecutive sell-outs.

The Big Ten and all other conferences are in the process of signing off on the NCAA multi-billion dollar settlement in the House vs NCAA lawsuit. The NCAA would have lost this suit in which they are accused of suppressing student athlete's ability to earn money before Name, Image and Likeness came into being.
PREPARE TO PAY
This settlement will force Power 5 schools to pay into a new revenue share program for past, current and future players to the tune of 20 million dollars a year for the next decade.

Why are Nebraska and Penn State scaling back massive football stadium renovations? Are Big Ten schools running out of money? That seems unlikely because yesterday we learned the Big Ten Conference earned $880 million dollars in FY 2023. And that was before their massive new TV deals kicked in? So what's the problem?

Well, for starters, each school is going to kick in 20-30 million dollars a year for the next decade from the House vs NCAA lawsuit settlement. That's right! Will Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz retire soon? We were not sure but when Hawkeyes women's coach Lisa Bluder stepped down after 24 seasons, we thought we would reconsider Ferentz and his future as it relates to college football.
WILL KIRK FERENTZ RETIRE?
Coach Ferentz is 68 years old and is going into his 26th season in charge of Iowa football. The school just fired his son and there is a new athletic director in place. Add the frustrations of Name, Image and Likeness and constant transfer portal issues, maybe the winds of change will blow in Ferentz's direction after the 2024 season. We will explore the pros and cons and see if new offensive coordinator Tim Lester is part of a transition plan at Iowa football.
HERE WE GO AGAIN
It could be Déjà vu with Ohio State football in 2024. Last year Ryan Day oversaw a quarterback competition that lasted two weeks into the season. This year he has 5 more quarterbacks fighting for the job and Day insists he wants this issue sorted out sooner than later. We have some thoughts on it.

Will the Big Ten expel any lower tier schools like Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana or Rutgers? Big 12 Athletic Director Jaimie Pollard from Iowa State says yes! He feels the TV networks that are paying the Big Ten conference billions of dollars will want more competitive college football games and more ratings and revenue.
CONFERENCE CONTRACTION
We do not think Pollard is way off in his thinking but we don't think the lower performing teams in the Big Ten have anything to worry about. We will explain why. We will, however, tell you which teams DO need to worry about being left out as the Super Conferences continue to grow.

Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer says Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) payments have evolved into cheating in college football. He says what the system was designed for and what it has become are two different things.
URBAN MEYER SAYS IT IS CHEATING
Meyer says if a business wants to pay an athlete to appear on their billboard than he is all for that. But if collectives just scrape together millions of dollars from donors to hand directly to players, then that is wrong. And he's right. Because the latter is exactly what is happening in college football (and hoops too!)

The Washington Huskies made the college football playoff championship game last year. And yet Washington football is the most mysterious team in the Big Ten and maybe college football.
WASHINGTON FOOTBALL MYSTERY TEAM
Washington football coach Kaleb DeBoer bolted for the Alabama football job to replace Nick Saban. And 20 of 22 Huskies starters, many now in the NFL, are gone. It is a complete redo in Seattle and it is anybody's guess as to how this team will look in 2024.

On the flip side, we are pretty sure Ohio State and Oregon football will be great this year. They play each other in the middle of the season. The Vegas odds have flipped on this game and we will tell you which way the wind is blowing now.

Here's something you don't read every day: A 5 star quarterback is making a second visit to Bloomington to meet with the Indiana football team. He is seriously considering a commitment to Curt Cignetti and company. We will tell you who he is! And, while we are talking about Indiana, basketball coach Mike Woodson has killed it in the transfer portal this off-season. Some think it is the second best portal recruiting job in the country. The Hoosiers are dotting many Top 25 lists for the upcoming hoops season.

Iowa football may have a quarterback controversy on its hands. Northwestern transfer Brendan Sullivan is coming to Iowa and Cade McNamara has yet to fully recover from a knee injury suffered last season.
QUARTERBACK CONTROVERSY
McNamara has yet to show what he can do since transferring in from a Michigan football playoff team pre-JJ McCarthy. And Sullivan has a prior relationship with Iowa offensive coordinator Tim Lester. McNamara begins his final year of eligibility. His time is running out while Sullivan has two years left. Stay tuned for an interesting summer with Iowa football.
HATE CRIME?
Speaking if Iowa, do we have some Iowa football vs Iowa basketball crime? Former Iowa defensive back and current Philadelphia Eagles player Cooper DeJean says he can beat former Hawkeyes basketball player Caitlin Clark in one-on-one basketball. Clark sent him a text saying that he could not!

The Oregon Ducks football team and coach Dan Lanning are dominating the college football transfer portal. So far they have landed 14 players and they are coming from other major college football programs from around the country. From Oklahoma transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel to two more defensive players who announced they are coming this weekend, Oregon football has the second best transfer portal roster in the country behind Ole Miss.
OREGON BEATING BIG 10!
That also means Oregon football is dominating other Big Ten teams like Ohio State and Washington in the portal as the Ducks prepare for their first season in the Big Ten. The season kicks off August 31st vs Idaho.
OTHER SCHOOLS
Other schools are busy in the portal as well. For example, Iowa is feverishly looking for another quarterback, or two behind injured Cade McNamara. Find out who is visiting Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Notre Dame football will no longer be able to remain a college football Independent once a settlement is reached in the House vs NCAA antitrust lawsuit. The fruit of this suit will start the unprecedented era of revenue sharing among major athletic departments and its student athletes.
REVENUE SHARING
While Notre Dame receives substantial revenue from NBC for its football broadcast rights and media rights money from the ACC for its non-football sports, there will not be enough money for them to survive once each major school is forced to shell out 30 million dollars a year for the next 10 years as part of a revenue share settlement.
MORE MONEY ELSEWHERE
Joining a major conference like the Big Ten with much higher TV revenues will be Notre Dame's only business model for survival. Surely we will get hate mail from the Golden Domers who insist Notre Dame will be an Independent until the end of time. But the times in college football are changing too fast. Adapt or die.

The Nebraska football hype has reached fever pitch following the arrival of freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola this spring. The 60,000 fans on hand for their spring game and those that watched on a national telecast are still talking about Raiola and his performance. And it just seemed like everything else looked better with him on the field.
Nebraska football fans know this team was good last year but it turned the ball over and could not figure out the quarterback position. If Raiola is the quarterback fix and if the turnovers get cut in half then this team will go bowling for the first time since 2016. We think 2024 looks very promising!

The Ohio State football team is all in on a championship or bust mantra for the 2024 college football season! After falling short of expectations in 2023 the Ohio State football team and Buckeyes fans immediately turned their collective attention to the 2024 season. Following the Ohio State spring football game their frenzied expectations only increased exponentially.

But when we talk about things like "championship or bust" do we mean Big Ten Championship or National Championship? Serious question! We know in an ideal world Ohio State football would beat TTUN, win the Big Ten Title and collect a National Championship in the college football playoffs. We propose a bunch of what-if scenarios. The Big Ten and the SEC are separating themselves from the NCAA as the association is being sued for billions of dollars for suppressing athletes' revenues. The power conferences are quickly designing a revenue sharing plan in order to appease the plaintiffs in the House vs NCAA lawsuit scheduled to hit the courtroom in January of 2025. Frankly, this is something the NCAA should have gotten ahead of years ago.
END OF NCAA?
Some estimates show the NCAA could lose over 4 billion dollars in this antitrust case. Athletic directors are being told to budget 15-20 million dollars next year to pay of a verdict if a jury rules against the NCAA. Some predict this could be the end of the NCAA.

Florida State could join the expanded Big 10 sooner than later according to Florida State athletic director Michael Alford. While speaking recently to FSU Alumni and Boosters at an event in Chicago, Alford hinted he may be in the area a lot more beginning this summer. It should be noted that the Big 10 offices were just a few miles away in Rosemont, Illinois.
LAWSUIT CITY
Florida State and Clemson are embroiled in separate lawsuits attempting to extract themselves from the ACC so they can join more lucrative conferences like the Big 10 or SEC. Hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake and everything hinges on these court cases. Or a settlement could be in the works. Stay tuned!
