"My spouse is so controlling." I hear it a lot. And honestly, it happens more than we want to admit. Control tactics are easy to see. What's not so easy is knowing what to do about it. We discuss our thoughts about what someone can try if they have a controlling spouse, as well as what you might try if you recognize yourself as the one trying to control.

So many people are lonely, even though they are surrounded by people. Why is that? It's because they are not thinking relationally. It's easy to get caught in a competitive stance in any relationship. It's especially easy in your marriage relationship--because there's so much to lose!
Individualism is competitive, limited thinking, and separates you from the other. Relationality brings you together, makes sure there's always enough to go around, and is expansive.
This episode explains two different types of individualism, and shows how being relational is different. It just might help you see your marriage in a whole new way.

Infidelity. It doesn't always mean the end of a relationship, but I don't know anyone who doesn't find it hurtful. Betrayal in any form is traumatic. So, how do you protect your marriage from infidelity?
To be clear, this episode is not about how to prevent your spouse from cheating. That's not really possible. But the two of you can work together to infidelity-proof your marriage, and there are things each of them can do on their own to keep the marriage strong and reduce the risk of becoming tempted by someone else.
This episode includes some things you can do together, as well as some suggestions for personal boundaries you can set to keep your marriage safe.
If you want to know more about how to come back after infidelity, check out episode 70 of the Marriage Bites! Podcast. https://andelinprice.com/podcast/70-new-marriage-same-couple-with-josh-and-katie-walters/

I can't tell you how many times I've heard people talk about not being "on the same page" with their spouse. I've asked myself--before I knew better--if my husband and I were even "in the same library."
The good news is, you don't have to be on the same page. In fact, collaboration REQUIRES two different opinions or points of view.
We talk about the difference between collaboration and compromise, how to collaborate, and what to do if you feel like you're stuck at an impasse.

I know it's not Christmas time. But we give gifts all the time. If we include acts of service, we give something to our spouse or family (hopefully) nearly every day.
There are different ways we can approach gift giving. We can
--give what we want to give
--give what we want to get
--give what we think the other would give to us
--give what we think the other would want to receive
None of these approaches are wrong or bad. Just different. Well, we're partial to the last one, to be honest. We wanted to help you think about gift giving, and giving service, in a way you might not have ever looked at it before.
(I'm curious what might happen if you pair this idea with the concept of the 5 Love Languages!)
You deserve to have an amazing marriage. You know it's possible for you, but you don't know how to make it happen. That's why we are here!

What do truth and love have to do with each other?
As it turns out...a lot.
Can you have one without the other? Can you speak truth without love? If you are hiding your truth, or not standing up for yourself, is that loving?

We have all heard the phrase, "forgive and forget." But what does this actually mean?
Not all actions are equal. Some are harder to forgive than others. Some are a breach of trust, others are simply an annoyance (and everything in between!).
We share our thoughts about what it takes to forgive, when forgetting might be the better option, and when it might not be.
Forgiveness is always the ideal, but sometimes it is really hard to choose to forgive. Also, we believe that forgiveness isn't linear. It's not always a one time event, either. It is sometimes something you need to practice.

You've probably heard about consent when it comes to the physical body. But I doubt you've heard about it talked about in this context.
Back in episodes 48 and 49, we talked about the 4 C's for having a hard conversation. But we realized that we missed one, a REALLY important one.
This episode adds a 5th "C" to this list.
If you find yourself avoiding conversations with your partner, or going around and around in circles and making no progress, or even worse--getting so angry that you give each other the silent treatment for days--these episodes are what you need!!!
Thing is--you can't force your spouse to have a conversation with you. You can't make them listen. But you CAN provide the environment for them to feel safe enough to discuss something without either one of you losing your cool.
This has been an absolute game-changer for us, and I really think it can be for your relationship, too.

Money is a big topic in most relationships. It's one thing that causes a lot of conflict in even the best of marriages. In this episode we talk about our history with money, what works for us now, and some actionable tips for how to manage money that can work for the whole family.
We had a real financial power imbalance in the first decade of our relationship, which eventually caused some pretty big problems with resentment and not feeling valued.
Over the years, we have been very intentional about figuring out how to create financial equality, even on one income.
And we believe you can do this, too!

So many people have asked, "Can a couple stay together after infidelity?" My answer is a resounding yes! It might take a lot of work, self reflection, and building new habits. But you can do it, with the right mindset, tools, and support.
Our guests are proof that it is possible to stay together, and become even stronger as a couple, after infidelity.
Josh and Katie Walters are parents to 7 children, ministry leaders, counselors, and authors of the book "New Marriage, Same Couple." Their inspiring story shows how you can rebuild your life after betrayal. Listen in to hear their story, as well as learn how they did it.
The basic premise of the book (and this podcast episode) revolves around their framework of S.T.A.Y. Start with me, Take quitting off the table, Allow others to be part of your story, and Yield to vision.
They share how they turned to God to find their way. Their reliance on a higher power gave them the strength they needed to get through the hard times. They now use their experience to help other couples overcome infidelity and betrayal to come back stronger than ever.

The main essence of this episode is all about being aware of when you are comparing yourself to others in an unhelpful way. And we talk about what to do when you notice yourself comparing, what to do about it.
We've all heard of the comparison trap, right? It can be the cause of a lot of extra drama during any time of the year, but especially during the holidays. Staying out of that trap will help your Christmas season be drama-free!

We've talked about how to not put your spouse in the middle, and how to take responsibility for your own relationships with your spouse's family and friends.
In this episode we are talking about how to not be the one causing the problems. Sometimes we get so rigid in our thinking that we become the demanding one. While this isn't always a really fun thing to do, it's important to recognize where we might need to bend or change, in order to keep peace (without giving up too much, or without people pleasing).
You deserve to have an amazing marriage. You know it's possible for you, but you don't know how to make it happen. That's why we are here!

This is part 2 of a 5 part series about how to have the warm, cozy, fun, full-of-Love Holiday season you've been wanting.
We think that kind of holiday is supposed to "just happen." At least, that's what Hallmark wants us to think. In real life, we have to intentionally create it.
This series will help you do that.
This episode will help you understand the relationship between you, your spouse, and each of your extended families. A lot of people think that people are supposed to stand in between their spouse and their family.
Listen to this episode to find out if we agree with that. Learn how to better manage your relationship with your spouse's family.
You deserve to have an amazing marriage. That's why we are here!

This is part 1 of a series about how to stay out of family drama during the holiday season. (We are keeping it short and sweet for the next few weeks, because we know you're busy.)
This can apply to any time of year, not just the holidays. But we think it specifically applies during this time of year.
Family drama can totally ruin your family fun. It can cause a lot of tension in your marriage, too. This series is aimed at stopping drama in its tracks so you can enjoy time family parties the way you want to (and so you and your spouse will still like each other when you get home).
You deserve to have an amazing marriage. That's why we are here!

We know. Everyone is talking about gratitude this time of year. That's ok. We have an entirely different way of thinking about this topic, and we think you'll be able to take it to improve your marriage.
Most people talk only about giving gratitude, feeling gratitude, or having it. Expressing it. This one is different. We are also talking about receiving gratitude. Which in our opinion, might be even more important.
This is the article we reference in the episode can be found here:

Most every relationship will have rough spots. We like to call them briar patches. Sometimes people reach this point and call it quits, even if they still care for each other. :( Sometimes ending the relationship is the right move. But when it's not, we want you to understand that if you can get past the tough stuff, and really deal with it (rather than sweeping it under the rug), you can find so much beauty on the other side of your challenges.

We all know boundaries are important in relationships. But do we know what setting a strong, healthy boundary looks like?
In this episode we discuss a framework I developed to help you set better boundaries, and perhaps more importantly, when not to set a boundary.

Did you know it's possible to disagree without fighting? It's true!
Unity in a relationship is not exactly required, but it definitely makes a lot of things easier.
In this episode we talk about what creates unity--including good communication, collaboration, finding common purpose, and more.
This applies to SO many parts of a relationship--household management, parenting, schedules, money and budgeting, and SO much more!
Enjoy the episode!
