  • Harvey and Xavier Scruggs sit down and talk about professional baseball, life after baseball, being an MLB Analyst, and much more. Xavier played his college ball at UNLV, and after his junior season was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 19th round of the MLB draft. Scruggs ended his major league career after a few seasons and then went to Korea to play in the KBO.

    Xavier is now an MLB Analyst for ESPN and MLB Network, while also being a part of the Baseball Operations team for the St. Louis Cardinals as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant. Scruggs also hosts his own podcast “The Bigs” and creates baseball content on his YouTube Channel. Xavier founded his own company, Xtraordinary Athletes which is a brand that is putting an end to dated stereotypes of athletes. Focusing on how athletes influence and create success inside and outside of their sport.

  • Tucker and Harvey are former teammates through the Milwaukee Brewers organization where Tucker was a 2nd round draft pick out of High school. After a few years of professional baseball injuries soon plagued his career and it was time to move on. After 4 years of living in a van and finding peace in simplicity. Tucker traveled the world letting his curiosity lead his path. In the current moment, that path has led to Tahoe. Where Tucker is currently studying and practicing interior designing and hiking the backcountry to snowboard the mountains.

    A few weeks ago Tucker and Harvey were in Tahoe together. Sharing dinner and telling old stories. Tucker who just recently built his home in a shipping container and now rips through the world's mountain ranges has some great ones to tell.

  • Andy is a breathing coach, nature enthusiast, and student of holistic health. Harvey and Andy connected over the data he was finding surrounding HRV (Heart Rate Variability) scores in nature compared to indoors. Time after time Andy was finding that simply being outside raised the overall health of the human organism. Andy has been taking students and youth kids into nature for years teaching them how to handle stress and adapt. He is an advanced Oxygen Advantage and XPT Instructor that now teaches athletes the benefits of breathwork and how to raise their performance.

    In this episode, Andy and Harvey dive into what HRV is and the connection we have with nature. A deeper look into breathing methods and routines to stay healthy.

  • Spencer Robinson is a writer who quit his day job in 2020 to devote himself to writing screenplays full time. Although scripts are the focus, he has also written songs with a local recording artist, interviewed professional athletes for the lifestyle clothing brand UNRL, and given a best man speech to boot.

    Originally a declared sports management major, Spencer switched his field of study to English & Film at Minnesota State University Mankato. It was around this time he began to gain a real sense of clarity and direction, diverging onto his own unique path. It is his intention to tell stories that get made into movies that move you, make you think, and maybe make you laugh.

    Some priorities in Spencer’s life are faith, people, health, learning, and baseball. He coaches at Champlin Park High School in the spring and the Legion ball team in the summer.

    Keith Bateman has been at the helm of the Augsburg Baseball program since 2003. Leading them to multiple conferences tournaments and championship games. Coach Bateman is a prime example of a servant leader. Keith serves as the Co-Director of Academic Support at Augsburg University. He has helped shape hundreds of young baseball players into successful men. Harv and Keith have been connected for many years from both residing in Minnesota and their connections through Minnesota Mash.

    Keith has always been known as a man who leads and finds way to grow as person. Harv and Keith dive into a great conversation revolving around the life of collegiate Head Coach, leading young men while also continually learning to grow as a man himself. This conversation is one we are very happy and proud to have as, we at MindStrong appreciate and support Coach Bateman and all he has done for the baseball community and our staff.

  • Harvey and Daniel Wilson met in 2015 through the discovery of cold water immersion and breath work. Dan hosted some of the first sauna & breathing sessions in MindStrong history. He is a sauna expert and built the MindStrong mobile sauna. You can find him hosting the Ddon.life podcast via Apple Music. Also, you can follow along with him as he travels the country chasing hot springs.

    For now, Dan is currently living in Minneapolis with his partner Omina. They are currently working on their business as food forest installers for their company Food Forest Minneapolis. Their goal is to plant as many decentralized food systems as they can.

    ABOUT LARA DALLMAN-WEISS

    Lara is a 32-year-old Olympian from Shoreview, Minnesota. Lara's most notably known for participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as a part of Team USA's sailing team. She placed 12th in the Women's 470 event. She has also finished 7th at the World Championships. As of right now, she is a part of the US Sailing Team, Perfect Vision Sailing, New York Yacht Club, and White Bear Yacht Club. Lara has dedicated much of her life to sailing, starting at age 6. Outside of sailing, she graduated from Eckerd College in 2011 with a degree in Nutritional Counseling Wellness Education and Spanish. Her hobbies include writing, running, biking, travel, and photography. Fun Fact: Lara has raced on boats ranging from 8 feet long all the way to 183 feet long. She now resides in Miami, FL and is just like all of us - navigating the idea of what's next in providing our unique purpose to the world (along with chasing an Olympic Gold Medal in Paris).

    Nate is an Anchorage, Alaska native who has carved out near 20 years in pro hockey. He has spent 13 NHL seasons with 9 different organizations. A 6th round draft pick (183 overall) of the Boston Bruins in the 2003 NHL Draft, Nate made his NHL debut in 2006-2007 with the Bruins. Over the next 14 years, Nate would spend time with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Winnipeg Jets. In that time he has scored 64 goals and recorded 97 assists. Now, Nate focuses on being a person who is remembered as a strong leader and a good teammate. Nate also hopes that those who are struggling know that they're not alone, and that asking for help is the best thing you can do.

  • On this episode, MindStrong Founder Harvey Martin sits down with Jake Butt, TE Denver Broncos to chat about his time in the NFL, navigating a series of injuries, and advice on keeping your head above water when injuries try to drag you down.

    Simply put, Jake is one tough son of b****. He has been through multiple ACL tears, meniscus tears, and the agony of rehab and recovery that comes with each of those. When the MSP team trained Jake back in March 2021, we were all amazed by Jake's positivity and energy for life given the rough road he was dealt trying to pursue his dream.

    Jake opens up about the toll the injuries played on him as well as what he has done to keep his body healthy and his mind focused in the right direction. This is a must listen for anyone dealing with injury or currently going through the rehab process.

  • On this episode, MindStrong Project founder Harvey Martin and Strength Coach Brian Peters have an amazingly energizing conversation with Rich Hill, the Head Baseball Coach at the University of San Diego.

    In our conversation, Coach Hill shares his thoughts on how his success in coaching has been so sustainable. A few themes stuck out - Relationships and Connection. Coach Hill leans on influences such as Brené Brown, Nick Saban, and Mike Krzyzewski. He expresses an approach of treating players with firmness, while also being an authentic human. Brian and Harvey reflect how their own relationships with their leaders have held similar sentiments.

    Furthermore, Coach Hill discusses the importance of cultivating a strong mindset. He dives into the benefit of having a dynamic mental toolbox, and learning how to interact with fear. One overarching theme encompassed the entire conversation - Gratitude. Throughout the entire show, Coach Hill's mindset of abundance and appreciation were both inspiring and contagious.

    Coach Hill has built the USD Toreros into one of the premier Division I baseball programs on the West Coast. In his 33 years as a head coach at the collegiate level (22 at USD), he Coach Hill has amassed 28 winning seasons and is the youngest coach in the West Coast Conference (WCC) with 1,000 wins. He is also the winningest coach, both active and all-time, in the WCC. Coach Hill has seen his Toreros win 6 conference championships, and garnered national attention regularly - being ranked or receiving votes in 15 consecutive years.

    Hill has coached dozens of All-Americans, a handful of Major Leaguers- highlighted by the Chicago Cubs' Kris Bryant, reached 8 NCAA tournaments, hosted an NCAA regional as a National seed in 2007, and was the U.S. Collegiate National Team Head Coach in 2015.

    From our conversation with Coach, we also gathered that he is chasing every competitive edge possible, and leaning on his faith to impact the lives of collegiate players daily. Coach Hill spends his days surfing, doing breathwork and meditation, speaking, and aiming to connect with others in the most authentic and vulnerable way. After spending just an hour with Coach Hill, it's no surprise to see the success he's had at USD.
