RERELEASE!
What does faithfulness to Jesus look like in this season of life? We're kicking it off with that question on today's show and then moving on to a powerful interview with Megan Fate Marshman. Sheās amazing, and we cover everything from parenting fails to perfecting the elusive messy bun. We even had a little fun comparing stereotypes about Texas and Californiaābecause apparently, people think Texans ride horses everywhere.
Megan also shared about the sudden loss of her husband and how she has leaned into prayer through her grief and raising their two small children. We talked about those āWhat now, God?ā momentsāwhen life takes an unexpected turn and youāre not sure how to move forward. Megan reminds us that prayer doesnāt have to be perfect; itās about being honest and vulnerable with God, even if your mind wanders halfway through. (You know the drill: āDear God⦠wait, did I leave the laundry in the washer?ā)
We also dug into Romans 8:28 and how Godās goodness doesnāt always look the way we expect. Itās not always easy, but knowing that God works for the good in all things gives us hope. Heās not just with us in the good timesāHeās right there in the mess, using every struggle to grow us and draw us closer to Him.
Whether youāre navigating the chaos of parenting, dealing with grief, or just trying to survive the day with the help of a few hits of caffeine, God is at work in your life.

Just back from Switzerland and Italy (I apologize for the #HumbleBrag) and let me say this: the scenery is gorgeous, the bread is holy, and breakfast is a situation. I also learned the hard way that when you ask for the ābathroomā in Europe, you're really just asking for confusionāand coins. Yes, they refer to bathrooms as ātoiletsā and for the first time ever I paid to pee. Add that (and the abundance of ice) to the list of reasons Iām grateful for Chick-fil-A.
Our youngest, JB, made the trip especially memorable. When our flight hit some serious turbulence, he looked at me with total confidence and said, āMoms never get scared.ā I didnāt have the heart to tell him I was gripping the armrest and whispering Psalms under my breath.
A few days later, we were on a boat off the Amalfi coast when the waves got wild again. It reminded me of Matthew 8, where Jesus is asleep during a storm and the disciples are panicking. Their first reaction? āHe doesnāt care.ā Sound familiar? Iāve said the same thing in my own stormsāabout parenting, health scares, and even podcast deadlines.
But Jesus is Lord over wind, waves, sickness, and our most chaotic days. His peace is ours for the taking. We donāt need calm seas to trust a faithful Savior. Heās in the boat. And Heās not panicked. On todayās show Iām talking about vacation, lifeās storms, and reminders for the times when even Momās get scared.
Tune in and also please share this with a friend! Iād be so grateful!

This week, Iām joined by my dear friend and Sidetracked co-host, Heather MacFadyen. Weāre talking all things summerāfrom the ADHD interventions I swear sheās staging, to her full-on Enneagram 4 vibes. We laugh, we cry (okay, not really), and we keep it super honest.
But we also get into the deeper stuffāthe lessons weāve both learned this past year and the surprising ways God shows up in the ordinary, often overlooked moments. Heather shares how heartache has a way of rewriting our theology⦠while somehow also confirming everything weāve believed all along.
We talk about hope, parenting, trusting God to show up right on time (and not a minute earlier), and how grief doesnāt get to cancel our hope.
So if youāre parenting through a hard season, needing a reminder that God still has good plans for you, or just trying to survive summer break with all the snacks and your sanity intactāthis oneās for you.
Oh, if you need even more laughter and even less structure (if thatās possible), check out our other podcast, Sidetracked, where we talk every other week about everything and absolutely nothing.

This weekās episode is a really special one ā and kind of a full-circle moment for me ā because Chip Waggoner and his son Benjamin were actually my very first podcast guests ever! I still remember that very first recording, and now here we are, years later, sitting down again to reflect on their incredible journey and how God has continued to show up in big and small ways.
You may know Chip as the Fox 4 News Anchor, but today, heās not here to talk headlines. He shares the powerful story of his son Benjamin, who was born with a rare and complex medical condition that changed the course of their familyās life. We talk about what itās like to watch your hopes and dreams shift in ways you never expected, and how even when life looks completely different than what you pictured, Godās purpose remains steady and unshakable.
We also dive deep into the emotional side of parenting through difficult seasons ā those moments when you feel isolated, overwhelmed, and maybe even a little forgotten. Chip opens up about how those seasons, while incredibly hard, are often where the most unexpected miracles show up.
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was hearing Chip talk about re-centering his life on Christ ā especially during those times when faith felt like a struggle. His words are a powerful reminder that itās okay to not have it all together, and the most important thing we can do is keep turning back toward Jesus.
Chip has a new book out called MIP: Discovering the Wonder of Godās Perfect Plan for Our Lives and I highly recommend it. Whether youāre walking through a hard season with your child, your spouse, your faith ā or just feeling like life isnāt quite what you thought it would be ā this episode and Chips book is for you.
And hey ā if this episode spoke to you, would you do me a favor? Send it to a friend who might need some encouragement, and leave a review wherever you listen. It helps more people find us, and Iād be so grateful. š

When Melissa Radke shows up, you know itās going to be real, hilarious, and completely unforgettable. If you know Melissa, you already know you're in for laughs, real talk, and probably a few āDid she just say that?ā moments (the answer is yes, and we love her for it).
Melissa and I are diving into all the things: podcasting behind the scenes, the chaos of book launches, and what it really looks like to blend two very different family cultures in marriage. She shares some hilarious parenting stories, and we both talk about what we learned growing up that shaped how we raise our own kids.
We also talk about the challenge of writing authentic dialogue, how her āSwim Gymā water aerobics sessions became comedy gold, and the raw truth behind body image, weight loss, and wellness. Melissa opens up about what self-care actually looks like when life is busy and unpredictable, and why laughter and honesty are so important.
I recently read Melissaās book, Chicken-Fried Women: Friendship, Kinship, and the Women Who Made Us This Way. Let me just tell yāall it is one of the few books written in the past century that I laughed out loud many times while reading. If you havenāt already, you need to order Melissaās book TODAY.
This episode is packed with honesty, humor, and so many āme tooā moments. Melissa brings the kind of real talk that reminds us weāre not aloneāand that itās okay to laugh while we figure it all out.

Weāre kicking off this weekās episode with part two of Sappy Cynthiaāmy newest segment, where I share a little more of the real-life stuff going on over here. This week, Iām talking about my daughterās college graduation and what made me cry (which was basically most things).
Then we jump into another great conversation with my pastor and friend, Libin Abraham. Iāve absolutely loved learning more about the Holy Spirit through these conversations, and Libin has such a gift for making it practical and approachable. This week, weāre talking all about spiritual giftsāfrom hospitality to healing, administration to prophecyāand how the Holy Spirit equips us for the exact places and purposes where weāve been planted.
We also get into:
Whether your gifts can shift over timeWhy spiritual maturity isnāt measured by your gifts The difference between residential gifts (the ones wired into your bones) and circumstantial gifts (the ones that show up when needed most)Why not using your gift might actually rob someone else of what they needHow walking in your gifting makes the yoke easier and the burden lighterāeven in ministryWe also get some practical tips on how to know if youāre hearing from the Holy Spirit.
Itās such a rich and encouraging conversation todayāso listen in and be sure to share it with someone who needs the reminder that the Holy Spirit is powerful and available for our everyday lives.

Well, weāre starting the show today with a segment Iām calling āsappy Cynthia.ā Graduating two kids in the next 10 days has brought out all the feels, and last night was Brettās last baseball gameātalk about full-on nostalgia (alongside a stomach bug Iām currently fighting).
But on todayās show, Iām joined by Libin Abraham, the pastor of my church, Bent Tree Bible. I recently heard Libin preach a powerful sermon series on the Holy Spirit, and it really impacted me. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had to share it with all of you.
This week we dive into the topic of living a Spirit-filled life. Libin breaks down who the Holy Spirit is and how He works in our everyday lives. Practically speaking, Libin talks about how the Holy Spirit changes our desires, moves us to pray for others when we donāt even know how, and equips us to do things weād never imagine ourselves doingālike stepping into foster care when it wasnāt even on our radar.
Next week, Libin will be back, and weāll talk about how to know if itās the Holy Spirit speaking to you or just your dinner from the night before. Make sure you tune in over the next two weeks for these powerful and practical insights on living in the Spirit.

This week on MESSmerized, I have the dream teamāDavid Thomas and Sissy Goff. Weāre talking all things parenting, and if youāve ever tried to have a deep conversation with your teenage son and got nothing but a grunt and a request for bacon, this episode is for you.
We tackled the big stuff: anxiety in kids, the social chaos our girls are navigating, and why boys apparently need a full workout and a snack before they can form a complete sentence. We talked about how resilience doesnāt come from bubble-wrapping our kids but from letting them do hard thingsāand maybe doing a few hard things ourselves (like ignoring the mean mom at soccer).
Sissy reminded us that trust, not courage, is the real anxiety buster. And David explained why experiential learning is key for boys (translation: turn that lecture into a walk with a basketball).
So if youāre feeling like youāre one carpool drive away from losing it, take a deep breath and join us. Youāre not alone, and trust meāthis episode will make you laugh!

Rebecca George is joining me today to tackle the tricky art of waitingāsomething that feels way longer than it should in a world thatās constantly rushing forward. We dive into how trusting God's timing (even when it feels like everyone else is ahead) can turn waiting into a season of personal growth and even joy (yes, joy, during the waiting!).
We chat about the dangers of turning desires into idols (oops, weāve all done it), the importance of gratitude to fight off bitterness, and why comparison is a total thief. Plus, we share how the writing journey is basically the same as waiting for anything elseāfull of growth, setbacks, and plenty of moments where you just need to trust God.
Hereās a few takeaways from todayās show:
Trusting Godās timing is key in a world that thrives on instant everything.Waiting doesnāt have to be wasted timeāit can be a period of growth.Gratitude is the secret weapon against jealousy and bitterness.Focusing on Godās character, not your circumstances, will help you wait well.Join us for a laugh and some real talk about waiting wellāand donāt forget to share this episode with someone who needs a little reminder that Godās got this (even when it feels like everyone else is moving faster!).

This week on MESSmerized, I got to chat again with the one and only Ann Voskampāand let me just say, if youāre needing a little soul refreshment heading into Easter weekend (and maybe a reminder that God is still in charge even when your week feels like a dumpster fire), this episode is for you.
Ann shared the most incredible story about chasing sheep across the Canadian tundraāyes, actual sheep. It gave us a beautiful picture of Jesus as our Good Shepherd. He never sleeps and He never takes His eyes off us. Thereās something comforting about knowing that even when we wander, Heās already coming after us with love.
Ann also opened up about a really hard seasonāher sonās house burned down during Lent. Literal ashes. And yet, in true Ann fashion, she invites us to see the beauty in even the most heartbreaking moments. She calls it a āsevere mercyāāa reminder that even in loss, God is working something eternal and holy in us.
So as we head into Resurrection Sunday, I hope this conversation reminds you that Jesus is near. Heās the Shepherd who sees you, loves you, and laid down His life so youād never walk aloneāeven in the cold, or the ashes, or the chaos.

āThey took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, āHosanna!ā āBlessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!ā āBlessed is the king of Israel!āā ā John 12:13
Weāre coming up on Palm Sunday, and I honestly canāt think of anyone better to join us this week (and next!) than the one and only Ann Voskamp. And if youāre even slightly tempted to skip this episode for any reason, Iām going to have to lovinglyābut firmlyāask you to rethink that decision. š
Ann and I get real, honest, tearful, and maybe a little silly as we talk about faith, the hard places weāve been walking through lately, and what this seasonāespecially Palm Sundayāmeans in the context of our everyday lives. She shares such a beautiful word on making sure what we focus on actually draws us closer to the Lord.
She also talks about how she stays in step with Jesus, reminding us that our ultimate goal isnāt hustle or productivity... itās just more of God himself. Yes and amen to that.
Iām so excited for you to hear this conversation with Ann (and donāt worryāsheās back again next week!). As we head into Holy Week, will you consider sharing this episode with a friend? Jim Burns is back for round two on Messmerized! If you missed last weekās episode, stop what youāre doing (unless youāre driving or getting a colonoscopy) and go listenāwe talked all about raising kids with sexual integrity, which, letās be honest, is not the easiest thing in todayās world.
This week, weāre shifting gears and talking about what happens when those kids actually grow up and start leavingāwhich is equal parts freeing and terrifying. Jim and I dive into the emotional rollercoaster of empty nesting, why it can feel like an identity crisis (especially for moms), and how to reinvent ourselves when our house suddenly gets a little too quiet.
We also cover the tricky art of parenting adult childrenāsupporting them while letting them live their own lives. And yes, we discuss the very important truth that we cannot, in fact, pick their partners for them, no matter how many āI told you soā moments we see coming.
If youāre anywhere on the parenting journeyāknee-deep in school drop-offs, staring down an empty nest, or already there wondering what to do nextāthis episode is for you. And please share this with your friends who need reminders that God is in the details, even when those details involve hard goodbyes, big life transitions, and resisting the urge to correct our adult childrenās life choices.

Letās be realāthereās a long list of things Iād rather do than have āthe talkā with my kids. Root canal? Yes. DMV with a missing document? Absolutely.
But since itās apparently poor form to let TikTok raise our children, I guess itās time to step up. Enter Jim Burns, who has spent years helping parents navigate the minefield of talking to their kids about relationships, faith andābrace yourselfāsex. Heās here to tell us why we need to make these conversations less awkward and more ongoing, why a relaxed approach is better than a full-blown TED Talk, and how to teach kids to guard their hearts without scarring them with the purity culture we grew up with.
Jim reminds us that parenting in the digital age is next-level complicated, and the internet is shaping kidsā views on sex way before we even think to address it. The good news? We can be the safe place they come to with their questions. Weāll talk about the importance of sexual integrity, biblical wisdom, and even touch on dating relationships.
So, if youāve been dreading these conversations, take a deep breathāweāve got this. And as Jim says, sometimes āNoā is the most loving word we can say.

Dr. Mikala Albertson is back, and weāre diving into all the fun midlife surprisesāstress, anxiety, preventative health, and why our bodies suddenly have a mind of their own. Weāre breaking down the difference between normal stress and full-blown anxiety, and whether medication is the right move. If youāve ever found yourself Googling āAm I dying, or is this just midlife?āāthis episode is for you.
We also get into the stuff we love to avoid: preventive health. Turns out, regular check-ups and blood work actually matter (who knew?!). Mikala shares what we need to be monitoring and why taking care of ourselves now saves a lot of stress later. Plus, we talk about the midlife bodyāhow itās changing, why thatās okay, and how to shift our focus from unrealistic expectations to real health and self-acceptance.
And because no midlife conversation is complete without discussing food and sleep, we unpack intuitive eating, the dangers of disordered eating, and why freedom in our choices matters. Plus, if your sleep is suddenly a disaster, youāre not aloneātune in for ideas on what might help.
This episode is full of laughs, real talk, and practical advice to help us navigate midlife without losing our minds (or at least, not completely). So grab your coffee, your reading glasses and letās figure this out together.

In todayās episode, I chat with Dr. Mikala Albertson about menopause, hormone therapy, and all the things we need to know to feel better in midlife. We kick things off by debunking some common myths around hormone replacement therapy and why it's not as scary as we once thought. Mikala explains how estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone affect our bodies and what happens when we lose them. And as a girl who is fighting some serious night sweats, you better believe I was tuned in.
We also dive into supplements, with Mikala sharing the four key ones she recommends. (I take the sum total of zero supplements, so this part was particularly interesting to me.) We discuss how to navigate the overwhelming supplement market and what to avoid. Spoiler: Not all supplements are created equal!
Then, we talk about ADHD in adultsāthe struggle is real. Dr. Mikala breaks down how many women might mistake stress for ADHD and how to figure out whatās really going on. We also touch on the decision fatigue we face as we juggle midlife responsibilities.
If youāre feeling overwhelmed by all the changes happening in your body and mind, this episode is for you. Itās full of practical tips, real talk, and a little humor to help you manage the chaos of midlife.

We dive into everything from the drama of friendship struggles and those classic mean girl moments to the surprisingly powerful role that loneliness plays in building resilience. I couldnāt help but laugh (and sometimes cringe) as we unpacked how social media has turned even the simplest interactions into epic battlegrounds of comparison and envy. Happy Valentineās Week! ššššš
First, I want to say thank you for the kind words and incredible response to last weekās episode, where I went rogue with a solo show. Iām so glad it encouraged you! Yes, Iām hoping to do more episodes like this after I finish the book Iām currently working on.
Iām excited for our show today, because Iām chatting with Jess Johnston and Amy Weatherly about a topic that hits home for so many of usāperfectionism, vulnerability, and the beauty of authentic friendships. We talk about the impossible standards we set for ourselves, the way societal expectations can warp our self-worth, and how true growth happens when we stop pretending and start being real.
Jess and Amy open up about their own struggles with perfectionism and how learning to embrace imperfection has led to deeper, more meaningful relationships. We dive into the importance of community and why letting people ināeven when it feels messyācan be the most freeing thing we do. If you've ever found yourself exhausted from trying to have it all together, this episode is for you.
So, take a deep breath, let go of the need to be perfect, and join us for a conversation that just might change the way you approach your friendships, identity, and lots more!

Hey Friends,
Itās February, which means Valentineās Day is upon usābut more importantly, it marks the one-year anniversary of my first book, Life is Messy, God is Good!
Looking back over the past year, Iām overwhelmed with gratitude for the friends and family who have walked this journey with me. Whether you bought the book, shared it with a friend, left a review, hosted a book launch party, or prayed for my words to make an impactāyouāve been part of this crazy adventure, and I couldnāt be more thankful.
Maybe itās the nostalgia of this milestone, or maybe itās just menopause brain fog (letās be honest, probably both), but Iām feeling all the feels. So, this week on MESSmerized, Iām doing something a little differentāno guest, just me and the mic! Thatās right, Iāll be having a conversation (with myself, as one does) about three key areas where I believe we need to give ourselves permission to pivot.
These thoughts stem from a womenās leadership conference where I recently spoke about the importance of:
ā Redefining success
ā Reprioritizing our days
ā Doing things that donāt always make senseAnd since weāre celebrating my bookās anniversary, Iāll also share a few stories straight from its pagesābecause what better time to reflect on this wild ride?
So, tune in, laugh with me, and letās get personal. And if this episode speaks to you, Iād love for you to share it with a friend.
Thanks for showing up each week and walking this road with me. Iām in it with you!

Is it just me, or did January last six months? I cannot handle one more school holiday, winter illness, or ¼ inch of snow canceling school. But I digress.
Iām thrilled to round out this month with an amazing conversation featuring Melanie Shankle. And yes, Amy Weatherly is still co-hosting with me, and I couldnāt be more grateful!
To know me is to know that Iāve been a huge fan of Melanieās books for years. I was so excited to hear she has a new one coming out, andāspoiler alertāit might just be my favorite yet! Today, weāre covering topics like parenting teenage daughters, the insights we gain through years of motherhood, and the importance of teaching our kids resilience. Melanie also opens up about her strained relationship with her mother and her decision to end generational trauma.
Melanieās book releases on February 18th, and now is the perfect time to pre-order it. Iāve read it cover to cover, and trust meāthereās something for everyone in this book.
I canāt wait for you to hear this conversation... and I really canāt wait for January to finally end. ššš
