Shaheedan-e-Wafa is a great poetic work on the martyrdom of young sahibzadey of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It was written by Hakeem Allah Yaar Khan Jogi, a Muslim sufi poet around the starting of 20th century. He was known to be impressed with Sikhi, especially the martyrdom of Sahibzadeys. He wrote this work with great passion and respect and earned blessings of the Guru.
He himself used to sing Shaheedan-e-Wafa on different occasions at Chamkaur Sahib, Nankana Sahib, Sirhind etc during Jor-Melas. He moved the crowds with his oratorical skills.
Hakim Allah Yaar Khan Jogi, was an unbiased Muslim poet/writer wrote two poems almost a century ago, one on Chamkaur, under the title Ganj-a-Shaheedan and the other on Sirhind, entitled Shaheedan-a-Wafa. His ancestors were from Deccan, but he was settled in Anarkali, Lahore. He used to wear royal Achkan n Salwar, was tall, of strong built, with a small moustache and khaskhasi beard. All in all, he looked like an Iranian mir.The poems were in the form of a homage on the heart rending tragedies of Chamkaur and Sirhind. Ganj-a-Shaheedan appeared in the year 1913 and both appeared collectively from Lahore in the year 1915. The valour displayed by the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh has been sympathetically and vividly narrated in the poems of a devout Muslim, Allah Yaar Khan. The cruelty of their murder and their fearlcssness of death which they preferred to giving up their faith finds a touching narration in "GarijiShahTdari" by Allah Yaar Khan Jogi, who used to recite it from Sikh platforms during the second and third decades of the twentieth century.Jogi Allah Yaar Khan just loved Guru Ji and with love wrote so much about Guru Ji that Muslims became very jealous, called “kafir” (unbelievers) and did not allow him to enter a Mosque for 30 years. When he had become an old man, a Qazi went to his house and said to him, “Jogia, come with me and ask for forgiveness. You have grown old and should die as a true Muslim.” Allah Yaar Khan said, “I have done nothing wrong. What I wrote about Guru Ji is the truth and I will not go back.” Hearing this the Qazi got mad and said, “Then you wanna die as a kafir?” Yaar khan replied, “I am kafir from Mohammad but not for Guru Gobind Singh Ji. I see Guru Ji sitting in Bahishat (heaven) with open arms and waiting for me. I want His love and want to die as Guru Ji’s servant.” Qazi left and Allah Yaar Khan died remembering Guru Ji every moment of his life. [SikhiWiki]

The story of Jeona Maurh (Jeona Morh | ਜਿਉਣਾ ਮੌੜ) remains etched in the minds of Panjabis across borders. He started off as a simple and religious young man whose deeds of crime and social banditry are recorded and recounted in folklore -festivals, folk tales, and folk songs - of Panjab. The name of Jeona Maurh remains synonymous with revenge and honour. The ballads of his exploits and his final undoing when he goes to pay obeisance to Mata Naina Devi have been sung by many eminent Punjabi singers.

Pooran was born to Queen Ichhira, the first wife of king Raja Sálván. Upon the suggestion of the astrologers, Pooran was sent away from the King for the first 12 years of his life. It was said that King could not see the face of his son. While Pooran was away, the King married a young girl named Loona, who came from a low caste family. After 12 years of isolation, Pooran returned to the royal palace. There, Loona became romantically attracted toward the youthful Pooran. Loona being his step-mother, Pooran disapproved of her advances. A hurt Loona accused Puran of violating her honor.
Pooran was ordered to be amputated and killed. The soldiers cut off his hands and legs and threw him in a well in the forest. One day Guru Gorakhnath were passing by with his followers and heard sounds from the well. He took him out using a single thread and unbaked earthen pot. He was later adopted by Baba Gorkhnath. Pooran himself became a jogi.

The short story "Murde di Taaqat" (The Corpse's Power) is reflective of the changing circumstances around temporary camps and rehabilitation centres around newly minted borders of India and Pakistan in the months post-partition of 1947. A corpse comes floating in a canal, and defines the mutual relationship between the two kinds of security forces deployed in a refugee camp.

O. Henry's stories frequently have surprise endings. In his day he was called the American answer to Guy de Maupassant. While both authors wrote plot twist endings, O. Henry's stories were considerably more playful, and are also known for their witty narration.
"Witches' Loaves" is also one such story.
Most of O. Henry's stories are set in his own time, the early 20th century. Many take place in New York City and frequently feature characters with blue-collar jobs, such as policemen and waitresses. (Source: Wikipedia)

"Khabbal" (Grass) is Kulwant Singh Virk's iconic short story culled out from his experiences as a liaison officer in charge of refugee-rehabilitation post-partition. Based on a true interaction with a woman kidnapped during the mayhem of 1947 migrations, the story is a reflection of the resilience of those suffering a displacement that was none of their own making.

"Chattu" (The Wooden Grinder) is a partition story of a family's leaving home, finding footing, and putting down roots in an unfamiliar land. The humble Chattu remains their companion through and through until...
Listen on to follow the trajectory of the family which is fairly representative of the settlement of almost all families forced to leave home and find sanctuary among strangers.
The author, Sukhwant Kaur Mann (1937-2016) and her family experienced this displacement first hand before they put their roots in Eastern Punjab. Mann's themes, her primary concerns, and her craft is fairly different from other women writers of fiction in Punjabi. She is primarily focussed on rural Punjabi life and all the historical dislocations it went through. Her fiction chronicles the Partition, the Green Revolution, the Naxalite movement, the turbulent 80s, and the change brought about during urbanisation of Punjab.

Surjit Singh Virdi's short story "Sapp'an Wali Raat" (Night of the Serpents) leads the reader on to a precipice and then leaves them hanging - did Taari, or didn't he? What were, after all, the dimensions of the tension/s between Paal and Taari? The story is unlike any other in Punjabi Literature in terms of lyrical quality and imagery.
Surjit Virdi was born in village Shankar, Nakodar in 1935, and he passed away in 1972 in London, England. He published two collections of short stories in Punjabi - Insan Bhukha hai ਇਨਸਾਨ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਹੈ (1963) and Cancer te Phull ਕੈਂਸਰ ਤੇ ਫੁੱਲ (1972). His writing was influenced by Dostoyevsky, Camus and Beckett. Surjit Hans, writer and literary critic, wrote about him: "Virdi's writing art challenged traditional story-telling rules, and sought new rules which we do not have. Our response to his stories, therefore, is of bewilderment. Only time will decide whether he was a genius, but with his untimely death the Punjabi tradition of master story teller has ended." - Nilgiri-13

'Gadariya' (1955) is a multi-themed masterpiece about the inclusive Tehzeeb of undivided Punjab, of complete devotion to curiosity, to learning and to the teacher, and the pain of Partition. Its young, and teenaged narrator brings out the innocence and simplicity of DauJi, the protagonist. DauJi is the ideal teacher who lit himself from the light of his own murshid to pass on the thirst of learning. 'Gadariya' is that kind of short story which can immortalize its creator.
Ashfaq Ahmad (1925 Muktsar-2004 Lahore) was a writer, broadcaster and playwright.
