  • Housing is a basic human need, yet a lack of affordable housing perpetuates a housing crisis affecting over a billion people worldwide. So, this week on On the House: The Household Management Science Insights Podcast, host Gabriella Joustra chats with urban planning associate professor Dorina Pojani to learn more about its challenges.

With research focusing on various aspects of the built environment, including urban design, transport, and housing, Dorina approaches her work from a feminist perspective. She reveals that the culprits of the crisis are the sheer lack of houses, along with an excessive number of investment houses.

Together, Gabriella and Dorina weigh up potential solutions that individuals can turn to in the meantime, some of which include flexible budgeting, downsizing, negotiating rent, cohabiting and moving further from the city. So, tune in today to equip yourself with a comprehensive understanding of one of society’s most urgent dilemmas!
