A great story for children that teaches principles of integrity in a fun and humorous way. When I listen to this story with children I like to ask what they think will happen next. And what they can learn from this story. Sometimes there are strange answers. Other times I learn more about myself by what they think this story teaches.
And in any event, this story is always fun to listen to. -
Dick Whittington was a real person, and really did become the Mayor of London. But it's pretty good chance that this story about his cat and his poor fortunes have been greatly exaggerated if not completely made up.
But for us, it makes a Classic Bedtime Story that gives us a glimpse into the lives and lifestyles found in old London. -
Some bedtime stories tell a tale or paint a picture of the world with knights and dragons, or fairies and magic. Other times they have clever and simple people in the world making their way and having an adventure.
And from time to time we find a story that paints a ridiculous picture of people doing crazing things in an unimaginable situation. And when this story is written by Lewis Carrol, you know it's going to be hilarious. -
Another classic story. If you like stories about unlikely princes winning the hand of a princess, then this will be a story you want to listen to.

If only there were a magical potion to make someone happy. Alas such a potion does not exist. Or does it? Well if it does, the wizard of this story certainly does not know it. This is a story about magic, and it is a story about love. But as you might expect this is a story where the use of magic doesn't make love come true.
Find out what happens, who is in love and who is happy. And find out who has the glass dog. -
Words have a power that are greater than many things in our lives. And even though we may need food, clothing and shelter to live, We treasure words more sometimes. So it is for the Goblin in this story. And so it is with each of us.

Tales of times gone by that deal with how to select a bride for a prince or a groom for a princess seem to be very thick. As are tales where a kingly father must select one of his sons to succeed him. Its always amusing that there are so many of these stories. But then I guess the nobility wrote down their bedtime stories more often.
In any case, this is a tale of a Prince and his servant, and the contention that comes between them when on a journey of the kingdom. Its not the normal tale of finding a bride. -
The Story of Ruth from the Bible is a wonderful faith building story that brings the culture from the Old Testament alive in a meaningful way. I remember that when I heard this story, I started asking questions and it created a wonderful opportunity for my parents to share their faith with me.
There is a bunch of details in this story that can lead both parent and child to a greater understanding of the scriptures, and build a stronger family bond using the power of scriptures and faith. -
Sometimes life doesn't turn out the way we want it to. And so it was for the donkey, the dog, the cat, and the roster in this story. But they didn't just give up, they took their destiny in their hands and went out to make their fortune.
This also didn't turn out as they had planned, but they did end up better off than they started, and became satisfied with their situation.
I love the way this story takes these animals and humanizes them at the same time keeping them in a world with people. And yet lets them be be both full characters and still animals.
I also enjoy the way this story brings characters that have little in common but a dream, and lets them work together and become friends.
Lessons like these are timeless, and is one of the reason this story remains a classic favorite. - Show more
