Grant Phabao presents Quench Aid and John Wayne - Don't Go Girls

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

Grant Phabao presents Quench Aid and John Wayne - Don't Go Girls (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2013-06-18 From the mid-80s to the early 90s, Jamaican vocalist Quench Aid was making big waves in this early digital reggae era, putting out a slew of classic vintage dancehall singles, including the in demand burial tune 'Beat Down The Fence' on Vena Recordings. His style is strong and sweet, similar to Jah Cure - who arrived on the scene 10 years after Quench Aid. A wicked and severely underrated singer! John Wayne is a Jamaican dancehall deejay who's bigger hit was the wadadadeng-ish 'Call The Police' from 1985, on the 'Sleng Teng' riddim. In 1983 he recorded an album called 'Boogie Down', produced by Bunny Lee. Also an in-demand sound engineer, he worked on Sugar Minott's 1981 albums 'Meet The People In A Lovers Dubbers Style' and 'African Girl'… Quench Aid and John Wayne are original dancehall killah artists, they collaborated together in 2004 for a 45 released on the small Bam Salute label from France, 'Don't Go Girls', now re-produced and re-mixed by the King producer Grant Phabao, who's roots reggae and ska recordings have been ruling the Jamaican music world for many years now. Enjoy this free download, a glorious and dynamic reggae combination all about the four-letter word L.O.V.E.!! Subscribe to the podcast here Tracklisting : 01. Grant Phabao presents Horace Andy - Talk 'bout Peace

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

Grant Phabao presents Horace Andy - Talk 'bout Peace (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2013-02-28 On the first notes you'll recognize instantly Horace Andy's falsetto vocals. The Jamaican singer has been gracing all of Massive Attack's albums so far, granting him a worldwide and long-term recognition. The reggae fans will maybe more fondly remember his early and roots reggae hits from the sixties and the seventies, the legendary 'In The Light/In The Light Dub' albums from 1977, or his dancehall classics from the early 80s. And All shall rejoice, with the offering of this free download, a rare Rasta song from the great Horace Andy recorded in 2004, produced and re-mixed by the unstoppable Grant Phabao a few years later. 'Talk 'bout Peace' is an outstanding conscious tune that has been kept hidden in Paris DJs' vaults for too long until now. Subscribe to the podcast here Tracklisting : 01. ©© Les Frères Smith - Opposite People (Live At Roskilde Festival 2012)

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

©© Les Freres Smith - Opposite People (Live at Roskilde Festival 2012) (Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2013-01-29 2013 should be a busy year for the Smith family. Before releasing some long-awaited new material later this year, Les Freres Smith and Paris DJs offer you a cover of Fela Kuti's 'Opposite People' captured last summer at the amazing Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Recorded in binaural so that you may hear the music just as if you were there, the whole Smith family hopes you'll enjoy this live take at one of the biggest European festivals. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and get ready to dance! PS check this little video out if you miss a dance step or two. 'Opposite People' is a 1977 Fela classic regularly played and appreciated by Les Freres Smith. Long trance rhythms, powerful horn themes and solos, heavy vintage keyboards and a strong, barely abstract, political message about the colonial mentality, upper class corruption, and more particularly its ability to abuse and impose its vision even if it's opposite to the one of the people. The artwork, by band member Elvis Martinez Smith, is a hijack (or tribute, or both!) of a 1982 poster by Thami Mnyele for the 'Culture and Resistance' festival organised by the Medu Art Ensemble, in Gaborone, Botswana (read more about this movement here). Their story, ideology and actions in South Africa at the time are similar to Fela's crusade and more particularly to the social meaning of the song 'Opposite People', focusing on the disparities, growing gaps and walls between social classes. Grant Phabao presents The Lone Ranger - Usain Bolt The Puma

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

Grant Phabao presents The Lone Ranger - Usain Bolt The Puma (Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2012-08-03 After Usain Bolt's heart breaking false start, which left him disqualified from the 2011 World Athletics Championships, Jamaican deejay The Lone Ranger and French producer Grant Phabao decided to record Usain Bolt The Puma, an homage song to Jamaica's greatest sprinter (and, obviously, his sponsor). The song starts on a killer chorus hook before slipping into an unstoppable flow of no less surprising verses, filled with wiki-accuracy, wicked rhymes and dynamic rub-a-dub gimmicks. The reggae groove itself is relentless, tight and bumpy, like 70s Jamaica sounding heavy. While chillin' with Jamaican singers The Lone Ranger, Jim Brown and Carlton Livingston a few weeks ago at Paris DJs studios, Djouls and Grant Phabao asked them what they should do with the song, with the 2012 Olympic Games happening very fast and the buzz around Usain Bolt growling like thunder… The Jamaicans all replied instantly that the track should be put up and spreading, that all the "but what if he doesn't win this time?" doubts should be erased because there was "no way" he was gonna lose. Being asked "how do you know that?", the Paris DJs operators were offered the most simple answer: "because he is Usain Bolt". Singer The Lone Ranger was the number one soundsystem deejay between 1977 and 1981 on the island of Jamaica. A 100% authentic Jamaican legend from the big years of Studio One Records, The Lone Ranger has been bringing back the golden years of rub-a-dub lately with the Soul Stereo Soundsystem in clubs, with Jamaica All Stars on stage at the Garance Reggae Festival 2012, or in the studio with Grant Phabao, one of the rare producers to have restored the sound of 1970s' Jamaica. Based in Paris, Grant Phabao works with many reggae legends, but also international artists such as George Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic), David Byrne (Talking Heads), Chuck D. (Public Enemy), Richard Dorfmeister (Tosca/Kruder & Dorfmeister), Quantic (Tru Thoughts) or Tony Allen (Fela's Afrika 70)… His tracks and remixes are played by the biggest DJs, including David Guetta (!). Paris DJs are an international music bureau operating from Paris (as its name says), which offers customized services to projects associating music and brands. Their thematic podcasts have already been downloaded by more than 2.6 millions of cybernauts. Paris DJs are currently working on the release of their first compilation, Dis Is Good For You (on an Afro/Tropical/Reggae tip), while developping George Clinton's upcoming website with amazing French graphic designer Benito, who cooked this beautiful art cover and a few other Usain Bolt paintings for the occasion... J-san And The Big Mean - Moving Too Fast (Grant Phabao Remix)

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

J-san And The Big Mean - Moving Too Fast (Grant Phabao Remix (Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2012-05-09 Brooklyn-based soul, dub, electronic artist/producer Jay Spaker aka J-san's musical journey has been a shape shifting experience spanning 20 years of soul & roots music. Son of radical vietnam veteran father & Okinawan mother J-san was raised on the road, living with artists, musicians, ganja growers and hustlers. He was an original member of John Brown's Body in the 90s, then went on to form dub rock/jam band J-san & The Analogue Sons during the the next decade, a band described as Bob Marley meets M.I.A. produced by Manu Chao… After a few featurings, including vocalist on 10ft Ganja Plant's album Bush Rock released in 2009, J-san has launched two new bands, Double Tiger, an electronic dub / dubstep project who's just released the No Give Up single on Hydra Records Japan, and J-san and The Big Mean, a rock/reggae/afro project fusing the rhythms of Afrobeat and R&B with the sounds of Dub and Soul to make your body move. When their first afro-reggae single Moving Too Fast reached Paris DJs' shores, we contacted J-san right away, offering him to try and have Grant Phabao dress the song with pure Jamaican roots vibes. The man was already a Paris DJs follower and we hooked up instantly. This deadly rough & tough remix is the another step for Paris DJs in their ongoing collaborations with brothers from Brooklyn and we can hope that J-san and Grant Phabao will do a proper EP together at some point! Remix 'The Iphone Connection' and make your own tribute to Steve Jobs!

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

Paris DJs are proud to announce a worldwide exclusive remix competition using the vocals of Studio One legend, one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs, The Lone Ranger. He was twice voted number 1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ('bim' and 'ribbit' were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. Paris DJs are giving you the opportunity to remix the Lone Ranger/Grant Phabao tribute to Steve Jobs track 'The Iphone Connection', the first single from the brand new Paris DJs label, available on iTunes. The vocal acapella from the song is available to download below (the original version of the tune being available here). We want you to build your own unique track behind The Lone Ranger's amazing vocals and let his producer Grant Phabao decide who has created the best remix. Add you own beats, instrumentals, flip an old version/riddim or re-interpret the vocal below - whatever is clever, we want to hear how good you can make The Lone Ranger sound.  (We're looking for original, innovative remixes here and not a re-edit so get your thinking caps on…) WHAT'S THE PRIZE ? 01. We'll press up an official, numbered limited edition run of your remix on 7 inch vinyl to be available in selected shops worldwide. No better way to get your name out there than to remix one of Reggae's true legends. 02. Grant Phabao will do an audio mastering of you remix. Your name will get out there and your music will sound as good as it can be. 03. You'll get a Lone Ranger signed copy of your own 7" for your collection. 04. Grant Phabao will play your remix on the Paris DJs podcast. 05. Your remix will be hosted for download on Paris DJs, along with a selection of the best remixes. HOW DO I SUBMIT MY REMIX ?

Nostalgia 77 - Simmerdown feat. Josa Peit (Grant Phabao Remix feat. Marco Benevento)

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

Nostalgia 77 feat. Josa Peit - Simmerdown (Grant Phabao Remix feat. Marco Benevento) (Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2011-07-26 Released early 2011, Simmerdown, featuring stunning vocals from Josa Peit, was the first single to be lifted from the latest Nostalgia 77 album, The Sleepwalking Society, released late March 2011. We've been active supporters of Nostalgia 77's measureless talent since day one and some of you might remember the reggae remix our resident producer Grant Phabao did on N77's Seven Nation Army cover with Alice Russell… It was high time to try and rework a new Nostalgia 77 track and we had the chance to get a visit from Marco Benevento, one of our favorite keyboards players along with John Medeski and Jackie Mittoo. Well you put musicians in a studio, what happens? They play together, so Marco ended playing organ and then clavinet for a reggae remix of Simmerdown Phabao was working on… This track was hidden in our closet for a year, and when we learned that Nostalgia 77 was coming on play in Paris on February 16th at La Bellevilloise, we offered his label, Tru Thoughts, to put it up for free as a virtual release on Paris DJs. You won't hear this kind of artists combination anywhere else so we hope you'll enjoy the unique groove and spirit in there. And we hope to see you tonite (feb 16) at la Bellevilloise! Grant Phabao & The Lone Ranger - The Iphone Connection

    · Paris DJs Virtual Releases

Grant Phabao presents The Lone Ranger - The Iphone Connection (Digital Single/Free 128k MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) Paris DJs PARISDJS001-D, 2011-11-04 The Macintosh and its Finder application were revolutionnary for the way we create. Then one day Napster happened, soon followed by AudioGalaxy and many others. While the big music business was struggling with the limit of its ecosystem and the paradigm that had come with the use of mp3 files, Steve Jobs changed the way we consumed music with the iPod and the iTunes music store. Soon after that, he changed the way we consume information with the iPhone. "The iPhone Connection" song is a tribute to the co-founder and CEO of Apple who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this summer. It was recorded at Paris DJs studios just a few days before Steve Jobs passed away. Jamaican DJ The Lone Ranger is on vocal duties with French dubmeister Grant Phabao at the controls & playing all instruments. The Lone Ranger is one of Jamaica's most influential early dancehall DJs. He was twice voted N°1 deejay on the island, in 1979 and 1980. He helped pioneer a newly rhythmic, on-the-beat rhyming style that led DJ toasting into the modern age, and punctuated his lyrics with bizarre exclamations and sound effects ("bim" and "ribbit" were his favorites) that made him perhaps the most imaginative stylist of his time. He had originally recorded The Walkman Connection way back in 1984 (on "DJ Daddy" / Techniques), now fully updated to 2011 as The Iphone Connection ! This is not a remix of Steve Jobs' speeches or commercials, we did it our way, creating an original and uplifting song. Take a listen and share with your friends. Buy it on iTunes. Play it on your iPhone. RIP Steve Jobs. Tracklisting : 01.
