That was the night Mario Lemieux scored the game winning goal in the 1987 Canada Cup. There’s a lot of talk these days about breaking records and the greatest of all time but pound for pound, stride for stride, shot for shot, pass for pass, I think Mario Lemieux is the greatest hockey player that ever lived. Mario didn’t look for the spotlight even after his NHL career ended. No cheap ads. He is the Jean Beliveau. The gentleman. Tall, handsome and humble. As Canada heads into the 4 Nations Cup this week, the countries eyes are once again on Canada’s greatest hockey players with a renewed and ever more meaningful and relevant sense of Canadian pride and patriotism. Patriotism is another word for feelings about home and the members of Canada’s national team all played there junior hockey somewhere close to home and that somewhere was the CHL. Our CHL, OHL, WHL and QMJHL.
Mario Lemieux went onto a legendary NHL career but he also played in some of Canada’s greatest international hockey moments. No more wonderful than his winning goal assisted by Wayne Gretzky in the 1987 Canada Cup Series. Mario is the hockey player every hockey player should know about now. Mario was just as impactful and skilled in the modern game of the early 2000’s playing as a veteran along side Sidney Crosby. So as we head into the 4 Nations Cup, here’s to all the hometown teams and billet families, and CHL fans that give Canadian hockey players the love and support they need to go from humble beginnings onto to greatness. Just like Mario…Le Magnifique.

TK & The D-Man are thrilled by a huge win over the Oshawa Generals at home on Saturday night! The Petes showed discipline, talent and determination winning two in row and proving they can beat top teams in the conference. Oh Canada - We Stand On Guard For Thee.
