Following on from Episode 9, exploring the gods and men of Greek Myth, in this bonus episode I interview poet Kym Deyn about their poetry collection Dionysia, "two pieces of not-quite history: the death of Alexander the Great and Odysseusâ adventures during the Trojan war. Two men for whom the truth is as fluid as water, and they are trapped inside the stories told about them." I also review the second installment in Claire North's The Songs of Penelope Trilogy: House of Odysseus and a beautiful narrative poem about Ariadne and the Minotaur, Bull Poppy Star.

Episode three focuses on Persephone, goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld and her mother Demeter, goddess of the harvest. I explore how her cyclic journey symbolises the cycles of the seasons and how this is intrinsically linked to the life cycles of women. Cycles which the modern world has distorted, yet it's through reconnecting with the divine feminine goddess energies that we can get that back. We also pop over to Ancient Egypt and meet Isis.

In this episode, one of Greek mythâs most marginalised, misunderstood and demonised women is given the chance to tell her side of the story. Medusa was a mortal Gorgon cruelly treated by gods and men alike so her power could be weaponised. But does that make her a victim? Content warning-references to rape and violence against women.

In this introductory episode I tell you about how I discovered Greek Mythology and what it means to me and we meet our first rebel heroine, my favourite: Ariadne. Princess of Crete, sister to the Minotaur, abandoned wife of Theseus and beloved wife of my favourite Greek god, Dionysus. I share some original poetry inspired by Ariadne and Dionysus and give you some great book recommendations to learn more about this extraordinary woman and how her story is still relevant to modern times, touching on themes of sexual awakening, empowerment, and embracing your wild side. Content warning: strong language, mild explicit content, references to violence towards women.
