  • Rebinging Star Trek Deep Space Nine

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to the Rebinge Deep Space Nine podcast. If this is your first time here, please give us a try! We walk through each and every episode of the 7-season series (except for 2 episodes we found a bit offensive). We do some over-analysis, we do some discussions of leadership, we talk about the portrayal of women in the future and we laugh a lot along the way. James starts off as a big fan, but it takes Kim awhile to get into the show. Don't worry, she gets into it after season 1!

Please join us on this journey whether it's your hundredth time through the series or your first time!

    What's this rebinge thing?

It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines.

Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like The Visitor or Once More Unto the Breach. Maybe start here with episode 1: Emissary or just jump to episode 18 when things start getting good: Duet.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek Deep Space Nine

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E28 where we discuss the 2019 documentary What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek Deep Space Nine. This was a crowd-funded labor of love for show runner Ira Steven Behr (and he is definitely the star).

What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek Deep Space Nine

Join us in a discussion of the DS9 documentary What We Left Behind. We talk about the highlights and the lowlights of the doc and share the part that made us laugh the most (thank you Nana Visitor and Marc Alaimo). In addition to the main cast reading some comical complaint emails from "fans" at the time, we also get the breakdown of a mythical season 8 of DS9 (which we have mixed opinions of).

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: What You Leave Behind Part II

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E26: What You Leave Behind Part II. In this episode we wrap up the second half of the series finale. Strap in because it's a long one! About half of this pod is over-analysis!

    What You Leave Behind

The Dominion War is finally over, but so much more has to be cleaned up. The fight for the Celestial Temple rages on as Dukat, Kai Winn and eventually Sisko battle it out in the Fire Caves. Everyone gets a lovely montage as we wrap up some stories and set our characters off on their journeys into the future.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: What You Leave Behind Part I

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E25: What You Leave Behind Part I. We split the super-sized episode of DS9 into two parts starting this week with part 1 where we cover the first half of the series finale. Come back next week for part II! The first half sets us up for the end of the Dominion war (hopefully), but also for the end of the series!

    What You Leave Behind

The Dominion War is finally coming to a close as the Federation fleet closes in on Cardassia. The Evil Founder finally goes too far in her desperation and turns all of Cardassia against her - maybe not the smartest move, but she is not in good shape. But nothing is going to be easy as Cardassia and the Federation suffer brutal loss after brutal loss. Meanwhile down on Bajor, Kai Winn has ignited the fire waves as she prepares to release the Pah-Wraiths!

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Dogs of War

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E24: The Dogs of War. In this episode, things are pretty much as bad as they can get for the rebels! Kira, Damar and Garak continue hiding out in Mila's basement and the Grand Nagus turns up with some interesting news for Quark and Rom. This, the penultimate episode of the series, guest stars Julianna McCarthy as Mila (don't get too attached), Wallace Shawn as Zek and Cecily Adams as Moogie. The tireless Jeffrey Combs covers Weyoun and Brunt in this episode!

    The Dogs of War

Kira tries to turn Damar into a Cardassian legend as all hope appears lost in the rebellion. Zek has decided to retire from the Nagus business and he has a surprise for Quark! And that's not the only surprise as Kasidy has one of her own for Sisko! Meanwhile, Julian and Ezri continue their high school-style relationship.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Extreme Measures

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E23: Extreme Measures. In this episode, William Sadler returns as the Section 31 spy Sloan for more fun with Julian. Sadly, Julian is not in his jammies in this episode which comes as a real surprise! Sloan is here to stop Julian from curing Odo.

    Extreme Measures

Julian and Miles lure Sloan to the station by sending a false report about the existence of a cure for the changeling disease. But the joke is on Sloan because it's a trap! Unfortunately it's not as easy to get the cure out of Sloan as Miles and Julian thought and they hatch a convoluted and dangerous plan to get the info out of Sloan's brain. And for some bizarre reason they choose to tell NO ONE what they're up to - including Miles's invisible wife. Yikes!

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Tacking into the Wind

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E22: Tacking into the Wind. In this episode Kira, Odo and Garak are trying to help the Cardassian rebels. Bashir is trying to help Odo survive. Gowron (guest star Robert O'Reilly) is most definitely NOT trying to help Martok. And Worf is trying to save the Klingon Empire. This is a jam-packed episode which we recorded late one Saturday evening and we talked A LOT. Might be a bit long...Enjoy!

    Tacking into the Wind

Kira is trying to hold herself together surrounded by a bunch of ungrateful Cardassians while Odo is literally trying to hold himself together! Rusot is not looking like the next great leader as he mocks and threatens Kira (this is such a bad idea). Meanwhile back at the station, Worf and Sisko are increasingly frustrated by the actions of Chancellor Gowron. Sisko tells Worf to do something about it, but we're not really sure if Sisko is going to like what Worf does.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: When it Rains...

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E21: When it Rains... In this episode you might think Kai Winn has to own up to what she did to poor Solbor...but instead, she doubles down on her deceit. Meanwhile, Julian discovers that Odo is carrying the Founder disease after all and he immediately starts searching for a cure while Odo, Kira and Garak are off to help Damar.

    When it Rains...

This episode lives up to its title because the bad things are piling up. We learn that Odo is indeed carrying the Founder disease. Damar's resistance movement is out of food and out of brainpower. Kira, Odo and Garak arrive to help but the bickering starts early and doesn't really stop! Julian can't get his hands on some info from Starfleet Medical that he thinks will help Odo. And worse of all, Julian thinks Worf and Ezri are an item (just kidding, that part is dumb).

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Changing Face of Evil

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E20: The Changing Face of Evil. In this episode Kai Winn finally learns the truth about Dukat and poor Solbor pays the ultimate price for her sins.

    The Changing Face of Evil

So many bad things happening this week! Kai Winn continues to dig into that evil book without much luck....that is until Solbor reveals Dukat's evil secret. With literal blood on her hands, Winn finally gets the book to show her its secrets. The Breen and the Dominion are fast friends now as the Federation suffers a tremendous battle loss. Sisko doesn't lose his son, but loses the thing he loves almost as much.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Strange Bedfellows

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E19: Strange Bedfellows. In this episode, Worf and Ezri finally sort out their issues and Kai Winn learns that it's not the prophets who she's been talking to. And in even bigger news, Damar has finally seen the light. Louise Fletcher continues on as a guest star as we roll to the end of the series.

    Strange Bedfellows

Damar has finally hit rock bottom and decides maybe the booze is not helping him after all. Once he sobers up, he manages to pretty quickly see what the Dominion is up to regarding the Cardassian people (and it's not good). Meanwhile, Ezri and Worf continue to be held captive and continue to bicker like teenagers. Back on the station, Kai Winn learns she's been conversing the Pah-Wraiths NOT with the Prophets and she is none too pleased. But when she tries to talk it out with Kira, she starts to think she's been playing for the wrong team.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: 'Til Death Do Us Part

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E18: 'Til Death Do Us Part. In this episode, Sisko takes a bold step against the prophets while Dukat plays on the ego of Kai Winn. Louise Fletcher returns as Kai Winn and Penny Johnson Jerald guest stars as Kasidy Yates.

    'Til Death Do Us Part

While Worf and Ezri toil away in a jail cell, Sisko frets over his latest vision. Turns out the prophets aren't too keen on Sisko getting married and this has really irritated pretty much everyone (especially Kasidy). Meanwhile Dukat is quickly worming his way into Kai Winn's life by saying all of the right things.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Penumbra

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E17: Penumbra! In this episode Ezri and Worf do a lot of bickering and Sisko's mom appears in a vision with some very bad news. Deborah Lacey guest stars as Sarah Sisko.

    Penumbra

Ezri manages to locate Worf's escape pod, but they almost immediately end up stranded alone on an uninhabited planet. Their bickering turns into a 90s soap opera just as the two of them are captured by some Breen soldiers. Meanwhile back on Cardassia Damar has finally sobered up long enough to realize he needs to get his act together. And on the station, Sarah Sisko and those jerky prophets are here to mess up Sisko's wedding plans.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E16: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges! This is the episode with the Latin title that no one can remember! But basically, Sloan is back and he's dragged Julian into a big mess! In this episode we have Barry Jenner as Admiral Ross, William Sadler as Sloan and a surprising appearance by Adrienne Barbeau as Senator Cretak! (What happened to the Sienfeld woman?). There is quite an analysis section in this episode of the pod and it doesn't even involve Kai Winn! Enjoy everyone!

    Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

Sloan is back and you know what that means!!?? That's right, it means we get to see Julian in his jammies! Sloan is here to browbeat Julian into helping with a complicated Section 31 plot...and there are some real complexities with this plan! By the end of the episode we aren't sure who is alive or dead or even if Section 31 exists! But one thing is for sure, Julian is going to make a lot of speeches.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E15: Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang! We go back to 1962 Las Vegas in this episode with guest stars James Darren as Vic and Mike Starr, Marc Lawrence and Robert Miano as gangsters. Vic is in some trouble and he needs the crew to help bail him out. The episode is a sort of throwback to a 1960s heist movie. Joining us in today's episode is our occasional guest host Attiba Royster. Find Attiba's artwork at attibaroyster.com and check out his podcast Teebs and Kid Phoenix VS.

    Badda-Bing Badda-Bang

When Vic's program glitches and the casino turns into a seedy gangster-filled joint, the crew bands together to get him out of trouble. Turns out Bashir's pal Felix added a surprise challenge to Vic's code and the only way to save the program is through "period specific" means. So that means the men are suiting up in some fancy outfits from the 60s and the women are mostly stripping off their clothing (sigh).

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Chimera

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E14: Chimera. In this episode Odo meets another member of "the 100" baby changelings. This changeling is played by JG Hertzler under a slightly different credit, but it's still Martok's voice! We also have a few visits by a cat in the beginning of this podcast - Pinky must be heard!

    Chimera

When Odo meets a new Changeling friend he is unprepared for how much like the Founders he is. But we all know Odo struggles to reduce the pull of the great link...and this episode is no different. Meanwhile, Kira fears losing Odo as she struggles with the realization that maybe she's never known the "real" Odo.

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Field of Fire

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E13: Field of Fire. In this episode someone is committing murder on the station and Ezri goes into the depths of her Trill memories to find out how a killer really thinks. Leigh McCloskey (YES, another one from Dallas!) joins the cast as Joran replacing the original actor.

    Field of Fire

When someone starts killing off happy people on the station, Ezri goes into detective mode (somehow not working with Odo - a missed opportunity). Because of that murderer in her memory, Ezri is uniquely qualified to get into the mind of a murderer! Is no one watching what she's doing!?

  • Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Emperor's New Cloak

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Rebinge Deep Space Nine S7E12: The Emperor's News Cloak. In this episode we are off to the mirrorverse to meet some new mirror characters! This time we get to meet pirate Ezri and a brave and loyal Brunt! Don't worry, there's a little leather Kira mixed in here too.

    The Emperor's New Cloak

When pirate Ezri turns up on the station, Quark and Rom get mixed up in a mirror scheme and end up prisoners of the Regent in the mirrorverse. While Rom tries to wrap his head around how the mirrorverse works, Ezri shows her (temporary) loyalty to the Intendant. Will the Ferengi get back to their own universe before it's too late? Probably...
