Before she rocks out on stage next month at Mighty Hoopla festival, British singer-songwriter Amy Studt takes a special trip down memory lane with Joel and David, reminiscing on her anthemic 2000s smash 'Misfit' and every aspect of her landmark debut album "False Smiles", the Gold-certified album which spawned four singles - including two UK Top 10 hits. Where the US market had Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff, we were channelling all our teenage angst with Amy!
Amy's rise to pop stardom sounds like something straight out of a movie. Enter a "grungy teen" from a seaside English town who loved to write songs, plucked from obscurity by music svengali Simon Fuller (the man behind Spice Girls and S Club 7) and placed in the studio with some of the industry's best pop songwriters and producers. Cue Karen Poole, Yak Bondy, David Eriksen, Cathy Dennis, Gary Barlow, Eliot Kennedy, and Rob Davis.
This conversation is a real nostalgic snapshot of a teen pop star's life in the early 2000s. From legendary 19 Management Christmas parties with Amy Winehouse, Pop Idol stars and S Club 7, through to "CD:UK" and extravagant overseas music video shoots... and even the curious case of a Sheryl Crow cover.
Proving she's so much more than 'Just A Little Girl', Amy also talks about how her artistry has evolved over the years with the 2008 alt-pop gem "My Paper Made Men" and avant-garde 2019 "Happiest Girl In The Universe" - and what's next for her.

Fighters, do you want to get crazy? Because this month marks 15 years of Christina Aguilera's "Bionic" era kicking off with the club banger 'Not Myself Tonight'. The Old Xtina of "Back To Basics" was gone and she's feeling brand new, embracing a futuristic and experimental electronic-pop chapter. 2010 was an epic year for our Caggie Aggie, not only was the new mum back stronger and sexier than ever with a new album but she's also making her film lead role debut with "Burlesque" (Has anybody looked up the air rights?)
Joel and David pick things up in 2008 where Our Cagz was starting her new musical journey with the single for her Greatest Hits, 'Keeps Gettin Better'. From there begins the two-year voyage into "Bionic" with an eclectic, "crotch-stirringly exciting cast of collaborators" * that include Sia, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., Peaches, Le Tigre, Ladytron, Santigold, Linda Perry, Tricky Stewart (Beyoncé, Mariah), Ester Dean (Rihanna), Polow Da Don (Ciara, Fergie), Claude Kelly (Kelly Clarkson, Jessie J) and more.
From sex positive bangers like 'Woohoo' to strutting anthems like 'Prima Donna', 'Glam' and 'Vanity', through to left-field electronic-pop experiments ('Elastic Love', 'My Girls') and soaring ballads ('You Lost Me', 'Lift Me Up') - this album is definitely Caggie's most ambitious body of work.
So let's get glam and hop in our electronic, supersonic rocket set for the year 2010 and make it pop-pop-pop!

When Britney said 'I need time and space', we fully respected her wishes... which is why we have split this monumental "Britney" album era into two episodes.
So, say 'hello' to Part 2. We are picking things up in 2002 with the other singles from this era after deep-diving into 'I'm A Slave 4 U' and our album highlights in the last episode. Here, Joel and David compare the videos for 'Overprotected' and the 'Overprotected (Darkchild Remix)', and get into the visual storytelling and references behind the music. The "Crossroads" action is in full swing here with the gorgeous ballad 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman' (Dido fans, rise up!). And your RBAY boys also prepare to get 'nasty' to the dead rockeh 'I Love Rock & Roll' and 'Boys' singles - including the spicy single remix featuring Pharrell.

Are we witnessing one of pop's greatest vindications right now? This month marks the 15th anniversary of Heidi Montag's "Superficial" - a fabulous album of 'all killers no fillers' that was largely misunderstood by the general public at the time.
Fast forward to 2025 and the album finally cracked the Billboard 200 for the first time this week, thanks to the overwhelming support of fans and a long-overdue reappraisal, sparked by a rogue album track ('I'll Do It') going TikTok viral!
This iconique body of work features contributions from A-list pop hitmakers like Cathy Dennis (Kylie, Britney), Steve Morales (Enrique Iglesias, Celine Dion), and more! Joel - our resident OG Heidi Montag stan - is coming into the spotlight on this one to share his favourite "Superficial" highlights and give us a guided tour of her pop gems like 'Body Language', 'Fashion' (originally by Lady Gaga), 'Blackout', 'More Is More', and 'Higher'.
Rising to global stardom through MTV's hit reality series The Hills, Heidi Blair Montag and hubby Spencer Pratt have been a power couple in reality entertainment for almost 20 years. It has been wonderful to see the internet rally behind Heidi and Spencer. We are sending their family and everyone affected by the devastating California wildfires so much love in these times.

Stand up, Soldiers! We are kicking off 2025 strong with a celebration of Cheryl's monumental chart-topping debut solo album era. The album that followed, "3 Words", was exec produced by Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am - a major co-sign from one of the planet's biggest hitmakers at the time, which helped Chezza chart in countries Girls Aloud had never had a chance to crack before.
Join Joel and David as they pick their album faves and break down the singles ('Fight For This Love', '3 Words' and 'Parachute') and their stunning music videos, unforgettable live performances, and b-sides! "Hi, it's us. You won't believe what we're doing." Pop fans, for our final episode of 2024 we absolutely couldn't miss celebrating 21 years of Victoria Beckham's final solo single (to date).
Join Joel and David as they revisit one of their favourite solo Spice Girls eras: Victoria Beckham's double A-side single 'This Groove' / 'Let Your Head Go'. Two different vibes, two stunning music videos and live performance meauxments that dominated telly throughout December 2003 and January 2004.
Posh went all out with the electro-pop dance banger 'Let Your Head Go' and the silky, R&B siren's bop 'This Groove', giving fans a taste of two potential bodies of work from her new record deal with Telstar Records.
We revisit the lore of this era all the way through to the R&B-flavoured tracks exec produced by hip-hop mogul Damon Dash of Roc-A-Fella Records that were included on "The Réal Beckhams" DVD. Most infamously, 'Resentment', which was later covered by Beyoncé.
What solo Spice Girls project should we revisit next? Let us know in the comments!

We are kicking off the year-end party season with a recap of Girls Aloud's brilliant 2008 ITV special, "The Girls Aloud Party". With comedy sketches - featuring appearances by Cilla Black, Paul O'Grady and more - as well as exclusive performances of songs from their "Out of Control" album; this was an imperial Girls Aloud era. There was truly something for everyone here - from performances of their well-worn hits like 'Something Kinda Ooooh' to 'Love Machine' through to more 'current' material like 'The Promise' and 'The Loving Kind', and duets with The Kaiser Chiefs and the very dishy (or so David thinks) James Morrison. Hopefully this episode will give you a chuckle and keep you company during this festive season. If you're doing your Christmas wrapping or going on a trip listening to this, let us know where we're going!

From Huddersfield to Bangkok, pop fans - are you ready for an adventure? Join Joel and David as they kick start a new âDiscoveringâ series where they each pick a hidden gem of an artist from the 2000s and select 5 songs from their catalogue for a taste test!
Signed to Jive Records and launched in 1999, British pop starlet Ellie Campbell looked and sounded like a ready-made pop star here for the GMTV and Smash Hits audience!
Despite having no formal singing or dance training, Ellieâs warm soulful tone and star quality was undeniable.
The Yorkshire songstress worked with same hitmakers behind Steps (Pete Waterman, Mark Topham, Karl Twigg), launched a handful of singles - including the UK Top 30 smash âSo Many Waysâ - and even found herself performing at the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras! Though she wasnât in the pop game for long, Ellieâs bops are forever - and her self-titled album âEllieâ is a real gem!
Before LISA from BLACKPINK, in the 2000s, the world had Thai pop princess Tata Young. Her crossover success in Japan, India, China and across Southeast Asia was pretty much unheard of. Thanks in huge part to her fun signature banger and your new favourite bratty anthem: âSexy, Naughty, Bitchyâ (co-written by legendary pop songwriter Savan Kotecha, who has worked with Ariana Grande, Britney, One Direction, and Dannii Minogue).
Tataâs catalogue of English tunes is top-tier, as she brings her Main Pop Girl Energy to songs that would be released in the West by Ashley Tisdale, The Cheetah Girls, Play and more. The writing credits on her three English albums read like a âwhoâs whoâ of RBAY! royalty - Jamelia, Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, Samantha Jade etc.
If youâre liking this âDiscoveringâ concept - let Joel and David know in the comments who youâd like us to cover next!

Get the eyeliner out, grab your guitars and throw on a pair of roughed-up Converse because we are getting dead pop-punky (but also dancefloor ready) for this episode! Joel and a very back-combed hair David are throwing back to The Veronicas' killer double-platinum-selling album, "Hook Me Up", first launched in 2007. This fun, heady, emotional and edgy body of work summed up the sound of our youth in the late 2000s, mixing pop, rock and electro with incredible, relatable lyrics. It spawned The Veronicas' best-known smash hit 'Untouched', gave them their first No.1 single, and gave us irresistible floorfillers like 'Take Me On The Floor' and 'Popular'. Whether you're rocking out to '4ever' or aching with long-distance love to the Kesha-penned 'This Love', this album has it all. Over a period of two years, this era took the talented Aussie twins to new heights across the globe, from touring the States to playing outside the iconic Hollyoaks pub, Dog In The Pond, and even co-presenting duties with Miley Cyrus, Ashley Tisdale and Zac Efron. Here we go! Here we go! This year marks 30 years since the Spice Girls were formed and as a podcast literally named after a Spice Girls album track, we simply could not let this milestone slip away without some kind of celebration!
Joel and David are breaking tradition and going all the way back to 1996 to revisit the legendary debut album "Spice". Geri, Mel B, Emma, Melanie C and Victoria completely changed the pop landscape when they crashed into the charts with 'Wannabe' that summer - quickly becoming one of the most recognisable songs in the world! This multi-million-selling album was a global success, spawning further chart-topping hits like 'Say You'll Be There', '2 Become 1', 'Mama' and 'Who Do You Think You Are?'.
We track their trajectory from a couple of 'raw Spices' to global pop stars in this short span of one album. Join us as we reminisce on all the singles, the music videos, photo shoots, album tracks, b-sides, 'lost tracks' (Justice for 'Do You Think About Me?') and unforgettable live performances of this whirlwind 12 months!
There's obviously so much more we could cover with this era and anything to do with the Spice Girls... so if that's what you want, what you really really want... let us know in the comments!

Grab those cowboy boots and pull on those sexy denim shorts because we are steppin' out for A Public Affair! Joel and David are heading back to 2005 and 2006 to revisit this iconic chapter in Jessica Simpson's career - and arguably, her best album to date!
As the sun was setting on her high-profile marriage to Nick Lachey and the "Newlyweds" series; Our Jessica Ann is hitting a new stride! She bagged her first film role, playing the iconic Daisy Duke in "The Dukes of Hazzard" and released one of her highest-charting singles 'These Boots Were Made For Walking'. Little did we know then that the character would become the launch pad for so many commercial opportunities for savvy Jess, including her billion-dollar retail empire!
"A Public Affair" was released the following year, with the title track grabbing headlines for all the best reasons. The music video and euphoric pop tune saw Jess step out for the ultimate girls night out with Christina Applegate, Christina Milian and Eva Longoria.
Whether she was being real and vulnerable on 'I Belong To Me' or giving you an undeniable "slagbanger" in 'Fired Up', there's plenty to enjoy on this fun and varied album; which samples everything from Dead or Alive to Diana Ross and Fleetwood Mac! We're here for the full spectrum of it.
