This episode is jampacked with interesting wine chats, important inititives, and bottles you’ll want to add straight to your collection. We talk about how Mitchell started working in the wine industry from a very young age, the story of how he found himself working back at the family business after several years in the finiancial world, and the advantages of being able to see how a business runs from, and work in, multiple different roles to experience the journey of a wine from the vine to someone enjoying it in a restaurant.

  • On episode eleven of Fine Vines and Wine, I’m joined by Paul Taylor, the founder of A Glass Of - a business where we, as the consumer, are connected with great wine makers that we might not have heard of before, allowing us to try a glass and a bit of their wine. All of the wines are also picked by different sommeliers around Australia, starting off with Gabby Webster; head sommelier at Bondi Icebergs Dining Room.

We discuss the tight knit community that being apart of the wine industry offers, the journey of A Glass Of, from talks with their first sommelier to thinking of the packaging and getting the wines to the consumer, and how sustainability is so important, not just through recycling but also pre-cycling as well.

I actually bought Gabby’s wine selection after our chat and I was thoroughly impressed, so much so, that I have now found a new favourite Chardonnay.

  • Disclaimer: This episode had a few technical difficulties - I’m pretty sure my microphone disconnected itself half way through and there is a little delay here and there, but it’s so jam-packed full of wine chats that you’ll hardly notice it.

We delve really really deep into the topic of natural wines and their defects, discuss our dwindling bank accounts because of all the wines we want to try and that one time Gaby decided to make her own wine in the backroom of a bottle shop.

We talk all about Gaby’s love of Gamay, don’t worry I have now tried a Gamay from Beaujolais and I am a big fan, as well as all of the different packaging alternatives that wine brands are starting to use.
