Today, I am joined by my sister-in-law and local Fine Gael candidate, Sharon Tolan, in the run-up to our local elections. I remember the day I looked in the mirror, and it dawned on me that I had been living a lie. I had lived all my life thinking I had my mum's eyes. An eye, I can assure you, that would never require a Blepharoplasty. That day, I realised I had inherited my dad's eyes. It's funny how I loved my mum's brown eyes because they reminded me of her; I never had the same warm feeling when it came to my dad's heavy eyelid. Lol.
I decided at that moment that I would have a blepharoplasty at some stage in the future, only considering it again once I was invited to London to interview the recently appointed medical director of Environ Skincare, Dr Matthias Aust. Our police force is in crisis, and our criminal justice system has effectively collapsed. The Garda Representative Association has started its protest against roster changes due to kick in next month. This action saw Garda refusing voluntary overtime. Our Garda are over stressed , over worked , overwhelmed and under resourced . Little wonder we are loosing them at a greater rate than recruiting them . Today I am joined by Dr Jenny Linders from Skincheck Clinic in Bayside, Jenny, under the guidance of Dr Steve Karagiannis, a fellow of the skin cancer institute, who spends most of their time doing melanoma surveillance in their five clinics dotted around Dublin. I have spent a considerable amount of my time campaigning for more awareness in this arena, as it sometimes feels that despite applying copious amounts of SPF, skin cancer continues to be the fastest-growing cancer in the world. We, as an industry, need to do more. My team and I have gone into schools to educate the next generation of parents, and I have worked with VHI on a corporate level, raising awareness and educating people. This is the only way to soften the curve, in my opinion. A podcast episode dedicated to what more we can do is a natural next step.
