Welcome back to our third and final installment of our Pee Wee Gaskins series and believe me when I tell you, I couldn't be happier to be finished with this one. In this episode we talk about how Pee Wee was brought to justice and the last murder he committed that landed him on death row, right where he deserved. This isn't a long episode but trust me there are some nifty twists and turns that Rachel definitely wasn't prepared for. So buckle in and enjoy the conclusion to one of the most frustrating cases I've researched yet!

With International Women’s Day coming up this week I wanted to celebrate a courageous and beautiful woman, who seriously slayed right until the end of her life. We will be discussing the murder of a 31 year old woman called Judy Malinowski. On August 2nd,2015, Judy was violently and viciously attacked by someone in her life that she should have been able to trust with her well being, her boyfriend, a 41 year old man called Michael Slager. Despite her extensive injuries after the attack, Judy would hold onto life long enough to make sure that justice was done in her case. Not only that, she used her time left on earth to fight for other people experiencing the same violence that she did at the hands of their partners. She would also become the first person in Ohio state history to testify in their own murder trial. Judy is a real inspiration of what the human spirit is truly capable of. We hope you are as inspired as we were by her incredible story.

Welcome back to part 2 of 3 of our Pee Wee Gaskins series. In this week's episode we will be talking about Pee Wee's life after getting out of prison in 1968 and the majority of the known murders that he committed between 1970 and 1975. Pee Wee often contradicts himself in the various interviews he gave about his life of crime so I've tried to piece the information we have together in a way that makes sense, but be aware that although Pee Wee admitted to his crimes, there's a lot of things we simply don't know, and it's almost impossible to really tell where the line between fact and fiction is actually drawn. With that said, strap in, because this is going to another wild ride.

Donald Henry Gaskins, or Pee Wee as he was nicknamed due to his small stature, was an American serial killer from South Carolina who stood just a whisper over 5 ft 4 inches tall. Despite his small size, he was convicted and sentenced to life for 13 known murders, and eventually sentenced to death after committing his 14th known murder while serving his life sentence. There’s a lot about Pee Wee’s life that is shrouded in mystery, mostly because, depending on who you ask, everyone will tell you a different story. After Pee Wee committed his final murder and was awaiting his meeting with the electric chair, he spent 15 months of his life telling his story, or his “Final Truth” as he called it, to author Wilton Earle. His life story was recorded on a series of cassette tapes and later published in a novel that was of course titled, “The Final Truth”. As Pee Wee tells it, the murders he was serving time for weren’t even the tip of the iceberg in his 5 year killing spree, and that there are somewhere between 80 or 90 more bodies out there that have yet to be discovered. However, if you ask law enforcement and those who knew Pee Wee, the “Final Truth” contains nothing but a bunch of lies and exaggerations. In this episode, we talk about Pee Wee's early life and the events that led to him committing his ghastly crimes.

Mary Bell was just 10 years old when she and her best friend, Norma, embarked on a short lived crime spree, resulting in the death of two young toddlers. Mary's life was full of trauma from an early age, and despite practically screaming out to everyone around her that she needed help, guidance, and love, her pleas were either dismissed as simply problem behaviour, or ignored completely. This is a case that asks the age old question: was it nature or nurture? Was Mary Bell a child who was born a killer, or was she a monster who was created by her environment. In this week's episode we cover the horrendous Houston Mass Murders of the Candy Man Dean Corll. Corll was given the nickname the Candy Man because he ran the local candy factory in the area of Houston, Texas known as the Heights. Over the span of about three years, Dean, along with two teenage accomplices, would lure, abduct, torture, rape, and murder upwards of 27 boys and young men. Despite all of the victims going missing from the same area, their crimes would go undetected due to ineffective law enforcement and their tendency to write off reports of missing children as runaways. Dean would bury the bodies of his victims in different locations, but the main location would be in a boat shed that he rented from a local storage facility. This week we talk about more of the crimes committed by Dean Corll and his accomplices, how Dean met his end, and the discovery of the largest mass murder in US history up until that point. We also have a little bonus at the end that links this whole case to another infamous killer.

In the late 70’s a string of seemingly random murders terrified the people of Sacramento California. First, a drive-by shooting of an elderly man with no enemies or any reasons to be a target of such a senseless killing. This was followed by some of the most gruesome murders many in law enforcement had ever seen. A young, expectant mother was found shot in the head and her body completely mutilated. This murder was again followed by the slaughtering of an entire household, when a woman, her 6 year old son, and a family friend were found murdered. The woman was again completely eviscerated, her insides removed and organs placed in different parts of her body. Every part of the house was covered in blood and it appeared that whoever had done this had filled the bathtub with blood and bathed in it. Most frighteningly, it was discovered that the murdered woman had been babysitting her 22 month old nephew. In his crib investigators found a spent bullet and a pillow covered in blood, but the baby was missing. This would set off a frantic manhunt for a murderer that police were sure would kill again if he wasn’t caught. Florence "Sally" Horner was just 11 years old when she was kidnapped by convicted child rapist Frank LaSalle. For the next 21 months, Frank would take Sally on the road with him, changing their names and telling those he met along the way that Sally was his daughter. Despite law enforcement trying desperately to find and save Sally, Frank always seemed to be one step ahead, moving just in time before the police could catch up to them. Sally would eventually escape from Frank's clutches, but with her freedom came social exclusion and victim blaming from those who knew her story. A few years later, Vladimir Nabokov would publish his critically acclaimed novel, "Lolita", a book that many believe was inspired by Sally's tragic story.

The McMartin Preschool in Manhattan Beach, California was, at one time, one of the most respected and highly sought after schools in the area. At the height of its popularity, anyone associated with the school or its staff was considered a pillar of the community. That was until 1983, when accusations of child sexual abuse against the owner's grandson, Raymond Buckey, came to light, setting into motion a series of events that rattled everyone to their very core. Suddenly, Raymond, along with his mother, Peggy, his grandmother, Virginia, his sister, and three other teachers from the school, had their lives turned upside down and were facing over 400 charges of sexual abuse against students in their care. The trial for this case would end up taking five years and costing tax payers over $15 million. But not everything was as it seemed, and even with all of the time and money that when in to proving a case against the McMartin 7, not one conviction was ever made. He claimed to have millions of dollars stashed away in trust funds and said that he made his money doing hits for the mob. He seemed so mysterious. This book took me on a wild ride and I just had to share this case with all of you. Wild Bill Cody was known as a charismatic, smooth talking cowboy to most who knew him. When he went out to bars, he would generously throw around money, tipping the servers extravagantly and buying rounds for the entire bar. He claimed to have millions of dollars stashed away in trust funds and said that he made his money doing hits for the mob. He seemed so mysterious. Brenda Reimer had always felt different. She was a young girl growing up in the 70’s. She wore pretty dresses and had a collection of Barbie’s and other dolls. She helped her mother with all of the household chores, and acted in the stereotypical way that young girls were supposed to act. But deep down inside, Brenda always felt different. She would watch her brother Brian climb trees and play in the mud. She loved his clothes and wanted to wear pants and t-shirts. She wanted to pee standing up and play with tractors and do all the things that boys do. She didn’t understand why she felt so different but she knew she was. Something inside her kept screaming out, I want to be a boy!! At around the age of 13, Brenda would tell her family about her feelings, and so started the process of Brenda transitioning from female to male, choosing his new name, David, and working with doctors to establish a safe and healthy treatment plan. But not everything in this story is as simple as it sounds on the surface. David’s previous life had been an almost complete and utter lie.

I'll be honest, before doing a deep dive into this case, I know very little about it. Now I can say that I feel I know entirely more than I ever wanted to and I am truly infuriated by the details. This is the final installment in our 3 part series on these two creeps and I can't say that I'm sad about it. I this episode, I give Rachel all the deets on the investigation and trial of Charles Ng. It's a bit cluster (you know what) but I swear that everything I say actually happened. To call myself frustrated by the way Canada initially handled things with this case would be an understatement (and I'm from this country, so I can say that), Thankfully almost everything works out in the end and Charles Ng will finally get his "cummuffins". We hope you enjoy the conclusion of the case of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng.
