  • Twelve-year-old Kimmy trusts dogs more than people.

After all, her dog Bo never made fun of her for having one hand. But two years ago, Bo disappeared.

When Kimmy stumbles across a magazine photo of a dog in upstate New York that looks just like Bo, she knows she has to find him. Her parents seem oddly unsupportive, but pink-haired, adventure-hungry Aunt Skylar agrees to a road trip with a stop in the Adirondacks. Kimmy jumps at the chance to bring her furry family member home.

Unfortunately, Aunt Skylar’s idea of a road trip isn’t the rescue mission Kimmy had in mind.

Enjoy this reading of Road Trip Rescue by Becca Wierwille...

Becca Wierwille writes stories to show kids they are wonderfully created for the unique adventures in their lives. Born with only half of her right arm, she aims to help others find beauty in what makes them extraordinary. Mom by day and novelist by relatively early in the morning, she wishes she could eat peach pie as often as most writers drink coffee.

Despite her dreams of sandy beaches and mountain peaks, she loves living in Pennsylvania with her family. Road Trip Rescue is Becca's debut novel.

Like Kimmy, the main character in Road Trip Rescue, Becca was born missing half of her right arm.

As a parent and a former teacher, she writes stories to show kids they are wonderfully created for the unique adventures in their lives. They are not perfect, but they are extraordinary, and they are loved. And every adventure will be better when they know they’re not alone.

  • While visiting Mr. Whittaker at Whit’s Soda Shoppe, Beth and Patrick find a mysterious letter in the Imagination Station requesting a Viking sunstone. The letter is old and says that someone named Albert will be imprisoned if the sunstone isn’t found.

Mr. Whittaker sends cousins Patrick and Beth to Greenland circa 1000. On their quest for the sunstone, the cousins meet Vikings Erik the Red and Leif Eriksson―and find the sunstone as they join Leif on his first voyage to North America.

But the adventure is just beginning, for when they return to Mr. Whittaker’s workshop with the sunstone, there is another note waiting for them, requesting a silver goblet.

Join Patrick and Beth as they travel to various lands and times in the Imagination Station book series!

VOYAGE WITH VIKINGS is the first book in The Imagination Station series from Focus on The Family!

Your children will sail with Vikings! Meet a Roman explorer! Be an American Revolutionary! And take a thrilling train ride through the Wild West!

With each book, kids are whisked away with cousins Patrick and Beth to embark on a new journey around the world and back in time. Kids experience unforgettable, action-packed adventures when they travel through the Imagination Station series.

You know those tests kids take in the first grade? It’s the first time they have to fill in a sheet of paper covered in little dots. Well, when one of her twins took that test, author Marianne Hering found out that her son Lewis couldn’t read.

So along with a fellow parent and coworker—Paul McCusker—she dove into the world of historical fiction for kids. She wanted to create some stories that had action and adventure but were easy to read. And one last thing—they needed lasting value. So they put in Christian history and some good role models.

Since she had been a professional writer and editor at Focus on the Family for more than a decade, she had a good idea how to start The Imagination Station book series. Paul McCusker was a producer and scriptwriter for Adventures in Odyssey, so he had a pretty good idea about how the Imagination Station should work.

Marianne Hering lives in Colorado, a place where the natural beauty makes it difficult for her to stay indoors. But she stays inside to write books for kids and their families.

And her son Lewis? Well, he’s in college now learning to be a chemical engineer! He still likes numbers better than letters. But . . . he can read!

  • Before Jake’s grandfather died, he was on the trail of a centuries-old mystery. And he has entrusted that mystery to Jake, leaving behind a set of hidden codes, riddles, maps, and other clues that lead Jake and his friends on a scavenger hunt into the heart of Colorado’s wild and rugged Rocky Mountain National Park.

Through twists and turns, the mystery unfolds while Jake, Amber, and Wes learn about survival skills, natural history, integrity, character, and friendship.

While camping in Rocky Mountain National Park, they discover they are not the only ones on this quest. An elusive shadow group is close on their heels.

Illustrated by the author, this page-turning adventure is designed to capture the imagination of even the most reluctant of young readers. Parents looking for a delightful read-aloud adventure will find it hard to put down. (Word of Caution: readers frequently note that this is a “Please read just one more chapter” book).

If your family loves the enchanted lands of our national parks, this series will take you to hidden places and into breathtaking landscapes. If you enjoy movies like National Treasure and Uncharted or mystery adventures like the Hardy Boys and Gary Paulsen’s survival story, Hatchet, you’ll love this first installment of the National Park Mystery Series.

Aaron Johnson grew up on a farm in Ohio where he'd jump the fence to hike into the swamps, gullies, ravines, and gorges in a place they called The Deep Fields. He wrote his first book in second grade, and continued to write as a teenager.

Then he became a high school and middle school teacher, and went on to work for twenty years in education. He's so grateful to bring his many passions together in this new life-chapter as an author: the outdoors, writing, the national parks, illustration, and his interest in fields of history, conservation, and the natural sciences. And he gets to squeeze my terrible dad- jokes into my stories.

Their family lives in Colorado where Aaron spent over six months exploring and leading backpacking trips into Rocky Mountain National Park. That's why the adventure begins in RMNP, in the heart of a place that he thinks of as home.

Aaron hopes your family not only enjoys these stories, but also develops a deeper affection for our national parks and the other wild places near you.

  • In the first book of the Tree Street Kids series, 10-year-old Jack is shocked to discover his parents are moving from their rural homestead to the boring suburbs of Chicago.

Full of energy and determination, Jack devises a plan to get himself back to his beloved farmhouse forever.

Only three things stand in his way: a neighbor in need, a shocking discovery, and tornado season.

Will Jack find a solution? Or is God up to something bigger than Jack can possibly imagine?

The Tree Street Kids live on Cherry, Oak, Maple, and Pine ... but their 1990s suburban neighborhood isn’t all quiet, tree-lined streets. Jack, Ellison, Roger, Ruthie (and Midge!) find adventure in every creek and cul-de-sac — and God’s big love in one small neighborhood.

The first two books in this four-book middle-grade series, ages 8-10, released from Moody Publishers in April 2021.

Amanda Cleary Eastep is not related to Beverly Cleary but wishes she were. She is, however, a children’s writer, and the Tree Street Kids is her debut series. Amanda knows kids because she’s still one at heart. When she is forced to act like an adult, she edits nonfiction books by grown-up authors.

Amanda’s children’s writing has been published in Ladybug, The Friend, Sunday school curriculum, and Story Warren. As a longtime writer, she’s contributed to Christianity Today, Think Christian, and many other print and online publications. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and she leads writing workshops at her local teen center.

  • Our God Is Bigger Than That! begins as the sun rises on the farm, and baby farm animals face their individual fears throughout the day.

All discover a simple truth―God’s much bigger than their fears. As the sun sets on the farm, the farmer’s little daughter is headed to bed, yet she is afraid of the dark. She faces her fear, too.

The same repeated stanza: “God’s greater than your greatest fear. He knows just where you’re at. No matter what you face in life― Our God is bigger than that!” continues throughout the book, with only “the source of the fear” changing in each spread.

  • Did you know God made you MORE than your disease, and He has a purpose for you?

No matter how many needle sticks you get that make you shout “Ow!” or scary tests that make you want to scream or cold waiting rooms you have to sit in that make you feel small - God sees you, your bravery, and the MORE He created you to be.

Whitney Lane Ward is a public speaker and writer who encourages audiences to overcome their circumstances. As someone with a disability, it is her wish to give hope to others with illnesses so they will scale the mountains they face.

The author’s disease began when she was a little girl, so Whitney knows first-hand the emotions and feelings children experience and the frightening unknowns they face. In this book, Whitney encourages every child who’s battling a disease to see themselves how God sees them and shout the powerful message to the world— “I am MORE!”

She was the first person in the world to be diagnosed with the disease she has. She also had the honor of naming it!

The name I chose was MAGIS Syndrome. MAGIS means “more,” in Latin and I want anyone who is diagnosed with this disease to know that they are MORE!

Taryn never planned to be a writer— she was a middle school math teacher for a couple of years. But, being a voracious reader as a kid gave her a love for words (and working with middle-schoolers gave her a sense of humor).

It seemed like a good idea to combine the two (words and humor) and voila, her first book was born. Truthfully, the first book was a fluke. She sat down to write a poem about Moses and ended up writing a fraction book about a cow. Who knew?

It worked so well the first time, she has continued to try writing poetry and has ended up with a book each time! Ok. Not really. But, she does enjoy the writing process so much, that she kept with it and has enjoyed some success along the way.

  • After a frustrating and boring start to his day, twelve-year-old Brock Billings has no idea of the dangerous adventures that await him in a Papua New Guinea jungle…

A brush with a hungry crocodile, a kerosene fire, and getting lost alone in the jungle—at night—are the least of Brock’s worries when he’s captured by rival hunters.

With the help of his friends, Brock and his missionary family work hard not only to bring peace to the opposing groups, but to spread the love of Jesus and translate God’s Word. Will they succeed, or are pride and fear too strong to overcome?

Luci Brockway Tumas has authored three books: Mission Possible (Tyndale House, 1998), The Power of the Word (Wycliffe Bible Translators, 2000), and Jungle Hunt (Anaiah Press, 2023.)

For most of her years with Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL International, Luci served as a writer in Communications, documenting real-life stories of the impact of Bible translation and literacy. Jungle Hunt is her first novel. Their family called the south Pacific nation of Papua New Guinea their home for 15 years. Luci and her husband, John, now live and work remotely in Longmont, Colorado.

Luci and her husband have served as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators for over 40 years. Most of those years she's been involved in writing real-life stories about the need for Bible translation and literacy - relating the amazing impact on the language groups who finally receive their written alphabet, literacy materials and Scriptures in their language.

Her blog focuses on the unique country of Papua New Guinea: its 800+ languages, unique birds, plants, tropical climate, and other useful homeschooling info.

Mark David Pullen is the author of middle grade series The Oasis Chronicles. His debut novel, The Oasis King, was released this year and his second book Freedom Through the Narrow Gate will release in September. Being the boy who sought after adventure and escape, he would use his imagination to create strange characters and unique far-away worlds. Some of those strange characters and far away lands cemented themselves into his mind and later became part of the firm foundation for his writing style. He currently lives in Upstate New York with his wife, two children, and crazy pup Toby. Mark is a proud member of the ACFW Organization. His debut novel, The Oasis King, received an honorable mention in the New York State Book Festival as well as a PenCraft Literary Award. Mark is an avid cook and can often be found playing 90s video games.

His stated purpose is to teach biblical values such as faith, hope, and resilence through dynamic stories. He hopes that kids who may need an escape from their struggles could find refuge in a book and see how my characters overcome their obstacles. I also pride myself on writing stories that families can read together and spend time with one another while reading.
