  • Did a group of Sasquatch visit a Talking Strange listener, and warn her to stop a secret program that was harming them? That's part of the story in this week's Small Talk episode, where host Aaron reads reader-submitted tales of the strange and unusual. Mary writes in to tell of her dreamquest where Sasquatches are being harmed by something that sounds a lot like government interference with the message to "Stop Project Wildflower." What does this mean, and does it make any sense?

  • Host Aaron Sagers interviews actor Emeraude Toubia (Shadowhunters) and director Felipe Vargas (Milk Teeth), the star and filmmaker behind the new horror movie Rosario. Opening in theaters May 2, Rosario follows a Wall Street stockbroker, played by Toubia, who returns to her late grandmother’s apartment — only to uncover a terrifying secret. As she sorts through her grandmother’s belongings, Rosario stumbles across a hidden chamber filled with occult artifacts tied to dark generational rituals and supernatural forces rooted in real-world beliefs.

A chilling and fun mix of Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell, Rosario blends gooey practical monster effects with a heartfelt story about immigrant families, grief, and buried trauma. Aaron talks with Toubia and Vargas about crafting a new kind of horror film, representing cultural horror stories authentically, and why real rituals sometimes make the scariest monsters.

  • [This episode first ran on May 31, 2023.]

Why do we like to be scared? What’s the difference in fear between a haunted house attraction and ghost hunters in a “real” haunted house? What is fearmongering, and the evolving fears of society? And what’s up with being afraid of clowns, aliens, Bigfoot, and even wide open spaces?

Margee Kerr is a sociologist and author. She earned her PhD in 2009 from the University of Pittsburgh and currently teaches and conducts research on fear — specifically how and why people engage in 'scary' experiences like haunted attractions, horror movies, and paranormal investigations. She enjoys working as a consultant for attractions and museums and is the author of SCREAM: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear named as a must-read by The Washington Post. And author of Ouch! Why Pain Hurts and Why It Doesn’t Have To. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Parade, Atlantic Monthly, and NPR’s Science Friday.

  • In this wild and weird episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers shares two firsthand accounts of high strangeness — and they're both absolute head-scratchers.

First up: Alysia, a loyal Patreon supporter, recalls the unforgettable night she saw the Easter Bunny… but not the costume-clad kind. We’re talking tall, furry, lifelike, and wearing yellow shoes and a bow tie. Was it an alien? A childhood manifestation? An actual cryptid rabbit delivering baskets? We don’t know, and that’s the point.

Then we travel to Carson City, Nevada, in the Reno Tahoe Territory. At The Fox Brewery and Pub, located inside the historic and allegedly haunted St. Charles Hotel, Aaron sits down with a Nevada Deputy Attorney General who goes on the record with a chilling tale of paranormal activity and strange encounters on Lake Tahoe, involving odd entities, and maybe something in the water.

This episode is packed with high weirdness, haunted history, and the reminder that — sometimes — it’s okay to not have all the answers.

  • In this episode of Talking Strange, we pause to share a couple listener submitted stories. First up, listener Mike shares his tales from Virginia City, Nevada. After hearing our episodes about the Reno Tahoe Territory, and visiting the Washoe Club, he wanted to talk about perhaps encountering the ghost of an old cowboy.

Then, listener Chad tells about his personal connection to the UFO over Lake Oneida, New York, in 1997. Occurring just a few months after the famed Phoenix Lights, this looked remarkably similar. As if that's not strange enough, Chad's family's footage of the lights gained enough attention that he believes it is connected to a visitation of strange Men in Black-type characters, as well as his own mystery illness.

Don't forget to submit your own stories so you, too, can be included in a future episode.

In this episode, Aaron Sagers takes you inside Old Bushmills Distillery, where he received a warm (and whiskey-filled) welcome from Julie Dixon, Visitor Centre Supervisor.
As part of Aaron's Spooky Travels exploration of Ireland, he explores the mysteries of Bushmills, from the haunting legend of the Grey Lady ghost to the fairy lore woven into the distillation process of Irish whiskey. • Still on the road in Ireland, host Aaron Sagers visits the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin, Ireland — which is not at all what he expected. Rather than a tourist trap, it’s a fun, cultural storytelling experience where one learns about the rich tradition of Irish folk tales and fairy tales. (He then returned later that night, after the daytime tour, for the Adults Only “Dark Land” storytelling experience.)
After the experience, Aaron sat down with Diarmuid Fanning, museum supervisor and producer of its Talking Stories podcast (available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify), and storyteller/filmmaker Niamh Mahony — who uses the Irish tale of Macha to tell of a modern woman’s medical struggle with endometriosis. They speak of the power of Irish folk stories, the mission of the museum, their favorite tales, and even some spooky ghost stories from their own experiences. Plus, they chat about how millennials like them engage with these stories differently than other generations.

  • Talking Strange is on the road in Ireland, with host Aaron Sagers collecting history, spooky stories, and folklore along the way. This episode, he's staying at the Clontarf Castle Hotel and connects with historian, author, and storyteller Dennis McIntyre. The modernised hotel has a castle structure dating back to 1837, and there has been a castle on the site since 1172. Clontarf Castle is also near the site of the epic 11th Century Battle of Clontarf, and near the site of the assassination of the First High King of Ireland Brian Baru. The area is also where Dracula author Bram Stoker lived for the first several years of his life. McIntyre — who runs guided tours with Dublin North Bay Tourism, and is the author of Bram Stoker and the Irishness of Dracula — tells us of the ghosts of the castle, as well as the "Ghost Room" where he grew up, and then shares his thoughts as to why Dracula deserves more attention for its Irish connections.
Then, Aaron shares some of the ghost stories her learned from his own stay at the Clontarf Castle Hotel — but nothing too terrifying that it should prevent you from staying in, considering it's quite lovely luxurious and the only castle you can sleep in near Dublin.

  • Host Aaron Sagers is on the road in the Reno Tahoe Territory in Nevada, and returns once again to the Old Washoe Club in Virginia City. While sitting in the back room of the old saloon, he speaks with tour guides and paranormal investigators Kimi Good and Justin Seagraves about their freakiest moments at the Washoe, and how they'd define the paranormal reputation of the famous site that began as a lavish "Millionaires Club" of the elite in the 1860s during the silver mining boom of the Comstock Lode — and is now one of the most popular paranormal landmarks around.

  • Host Aaron Sagers has hit the road to gather short stories about hauntings and general weirdness from the folks out there across the world. He continues his spooky travels in Virginia City, Nevada, in the Reno Tahoe Territory. Aaron sits for a brief chat with Dane Barker of the Virginia City Roasting House to discuss some of the haunted happenings of the historic coffee house. What's up with the spirit who did not want her to eat her dessert?! Not cool, ghosty.

  • Musician and filmmaker Dimitri Coats — guitarist for the punk supergroup OFF! and frontman for Burning Brides — joins host Aaron Sagers to discuss his punk rock sci-fi comedy feature film Free LSD, which he wrote, directed and stars in, as well as his own paradigm shifting experience with potential extraterrestrials.
Receiving comparisons to Repo Man, Free LSD also stars OFF! singer Keith Morris (from the bands Black Flag and Circle Jerks) in the lead role, and other musicians David Yow (The Jesus Lizard)
Autry Fulbright (And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead), DH Peligro (Dead Kennedys), as well as Jack Black, Dana Gould, Chelsea Debo, Chloe Dykstra, James Duval, Barry Del Sherman, Chris D., E.R. Ruiz, Gill Gayle, Davey Havok, and S.A. Griffin.
    MORE ABOUT FREE LSD
Keith, an elderly sex shop owner, falls for a younger woman who visits his store looking for a gift. When their relationship turns physical, Keith's failure to perform leads him to a strange erectile dysfunction doctor who offers hope in the form of an experimental drug. The experience gives Keith much more than renewed manhood. It also provides a glimpse into a parallel universe where he is not only the singer of the band OFF!, but also the target of an advanced AI species that will stop at nothing to prevent the group from making a new album, which holds the key to an awakening of human consciousness.
