Today's episode is a companion to our recent deep dive on the informed homemaker which is all about making sense of what is happening in the world and our culture with eyes of faith through a Biblical worldview lens. Of course going right to the source and studying scripture itself is the best policy, but what about companion resources such as devotionals, Bible focused podcasts, Bible study books, online sermons, other Christian publications, YouTube channels, etc? How to we know who to trust? Is there a way to tell whether or not a preacher or publication is biblically sound? That is what we are discussing today as we look at the example of a group of believers from the New Testament called the Bereans.

Slowing down long enough to gather and break bread together provides the family an opportunity to connect every day. The Cross Legacy YouTubeInstant Pot Risotto (adapted from Allrecipes.com)2 TBS olive or avocado oil1/4 cup finely diced onion1-2 cloves garlic, minced1 cup Arborio rice2 1/4 cups chicken broth (or 2 1/4 cups water + 1 bouillon cube)1/4 cup diced mushrooms and/or 1/4 cup baby green peas (optional)2 TBS butter1/4-1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheeseUse sauté function on IP to heat the oil. Add onion, sauté for 3-4 min, stirring. Add garlic and stir until fragrant (about 30 sec ). Add rice, stir constantly, until rice starts to toast lightly (1-2 min).Pour in the broth, add optional veggies if using. Put lid on and lock into place. Press Manual and set for 6 minutes, high pressure. When cooking is complete, carefully manually release pressure fully and remove lid. Stir in butter and parmesan until creamy and fully combined. Top with fresh parsley if desired. In today's Monday Motivation, I'm sharing my summer memories of creating from my grandmother's scrap box and how I carried that practice into my own home when my children were growing up. Whether to fill time on a rainy afternoon, keep little hands busy during travel or in waiting rooms, a Busy Box for your kids or grandkids will certainly spark creativity. Just remember, it's not really about the end result, it's the process and the memory you are making of being creative together.

I am talking with seasoned homemaker, Carrie Parker. She has been keeping a home for over 26 years with her husband, Todd. They raised and homeschooled 2 boys, navigated crazy career choices, and witnessed God mercifully restore their marriage, bringing it back from the brink of divorce. Carrie has experienced a lot in life and she candidly shares what God has taught her through her mistakes. You will find many nuggets of wisdom to mine in this conversation.

On to todayâs homemaker portrait, I am chatting with Alecia Doty. She was nominated by her friend Tina Bergs. Hereâs what Tina had to say about Aleciaâs practice of the art of home: "Alecia makes her home a place where children are nurtured in the love of Christ and pointed to what is true, good, and beautiful. She is a welcoming hostess who intentionally uses her home as a place where souls can find rest, and be met with the love of Christ."

After spending an hour or so in conversation with Alecia, I can see why Tina gave such a glowing recommendation. Alecia has such great insight into the art of home. She poignantly explains that homemaking is a beautiful, hard, sanctifying, creative adventure; a high and holy calling which, if we allow, God will use to draw us to himself and transform us into the image of Jesus so that the Gospel will be displayed through our homemaking.

I am chatting with Amanda Turk, mom of 5 and homemaker for 23 years, some of which was done overseas. We talk about how books and head knowledge can be helpful but can also get in the way of learning to trust the instincts God gives us as homemakers and caretakers. Amanda shares the lessons she learned homemaking in a foreign country and why a habit of saying âyesâ is crucial to practicing hospitality in her home.

Today I am chatting with Seasoned Homemaker, Jan Roueche. Married for over 40 years, Jan and her husband have raised 10 children, homeschooling them for many of those yearsâŠa topic which comes up a good bit in our conversation. When Jan and her husband married the were both new Christians so not only were they learning how to live together and create a harmonious home life, they were both learning how to faithfully walk with Christ, and it wasnât always easy. We discuss some of the practical need for structure when living in a large family and Jan shares a little about her current season of homemaking which involves caring for her husband as he battles Parkinsonâs disease. Jan shares many tips, a lot of practical advice and much wisdom throughout our conversation. I especially love that her advice is centered on the need to cultivate a deep abiding relationship with the Lord.
