My guest on this episode is author and journalist Kat Lister (Sunday Times Magazine, Vice, Vogue). Her first book - The Elements: A Memoir of Grief, Loss and Transformation will be published by Icon Books in September 2021. It is a "powerful investigation of grief and loss" framed around her experiences of becoming a widow in her mid-thirties. Part exploration of grief theories and cultural attitudes towards death, part memoir, "What emerges is an idea of grieving as an elemental change". Last year I spoke to Kat about the loss of her husband in August 2018, writer and editor Pat Long, as we talked about anticipatory grief in the face of a terminal diagnosis, and the very physical manifestations of loss on the female body.

My guest this time on the podcast is Welsh playwright and poet Patrick Jones, elder brother to Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers and one of Wales' most prominent literary figures. We talk about the consolations of poetry, the journey of grieving, and the very primal wound that losing a parent leaves.

The Art of Losing podcast is hosted by writer and musician Catherine Anne Davies (aka The Anchoress) and takes on the topic of loss in all its literal and metaphorical forms: lost albums, lost marriages, baby loss, lost possessions, and the death of loved ones, asking the question: is the art of losing ever something we can truly master?
