  • On this week's episode we're pleased to welcome journalist and author Alya Mooro.

Alya has written for titles including The Telegraph, The Washington Post, Grazia and Refinery29, but it's her incredible book, The Greatest Freedom, that we're most excited to talk to her about.

The book explores ‘life as a middle eastern woman outside the stereotypes’ and is a fascinating exploration of culture, identity and the pressures of expectation. As an Egyptian growing up in London, Alya talks of feeling like a ‘hybrid - British and Egyptian both and consequentially neither’.

Along with her own experiences, when writing The Greater Freedom, Alya also gathered anecdotes from other women, aged 24-50. She’s here to talk to us about what she learned from telling her story, the importance of ‘passing the mic’ and sharing her platform with other voices, and the pressures of what she describes as ‘the invisible jury.’

  • If you’re looking to focus more on your spiritual health this year, you’ve come to the right place - my guest today is Poppy Delbridge - entrepreneur, award-winning professional coach, energy psychologist and NLP practitioner.

Since moving into the wellbeing and coaching space, she works with companies and individuals to transform lives and unlock potential. She’s been described as a “modern haute healer”, “a supercoach”, “the white witch of results'“ and “the life-changer” by some of the people she’s worked with.

Poppy is here to talk about the power of intuition and to convince the skeptics out there of the crucial role that spirituality plays in our lives. She’ll introduce us to her ‘rapid tapping’ methodology - described by the Mail as ‘the therapy of 2021’ and share her wisdom on how to cope with the inevitable anxieties of recent months.

She was listed as one of Forbes 30 under 30, and is now the founder and CEO of BeYourOwn, a digital news and media platform dedicated to inspiring women in business.

  • Welcome to episode 12, the last of the series - and indeed the year! Joining Pips for this special episode is someone who turned her back on a career on Wall Street to make a name for herself as a personal chef and food entrepreneur: Saima Khan, founder of the Hampstead Kitchen.

Saima’s career pivot happened after she offered to step in for a friend whose personal chef had cancelled. Since then she’s wowed everyone from Hollywood stars to heads of state with her innovative, beautifully presented banquets.

When the pandemic hit, her decision to shift focus to serving her fine dining experience in people’s homes proved to be a good one - the business has gone from strength to strength throughout a phenomenally challenging year for the food and hospitality industry.

Today she’s here to share the inside story of building her business, the importance of giving back to your local community and what happens when you serve a dish named after Michelle Obama to Donald Trump…

  • Kicking off December in style, our guest this week is drinks entrepreneur Philippa Gee, Founder of Fatty’s Organic Spirits.

Philippa set up Fatty’s in 2017, after she saw a gap in the market for quality, organic spirits. The formula for her original gin was concocted at home, the result of months of careful experimentation. It won a silver medal at the International Wine and Spirit competition and Philippa has gone on to develop a host of further products, from vodka to flavoured gin-based spirits.

This episode we have everything you would expect from a gin connoisseur - recipes for the ultimate festive cocktail, the ingredients for the perfect party - the works. But we also focus on some of the more personal elements of Philippa’s business journey, from a frank discussion about why she didn’t publicise her pregnancy, to the terrifying fallout of a social media storm.

We also have a few words of wisdom from Ben Bidwell, the Naked Professor, on the crossover between taking care of your physical and mental health.

  • Joining Pips today is fashion designer and stylist Ellie Lines.

Ellie started her career as a fashion stylist, working on international publications and dressing clients from across the film and music industries.

In 2014, she launched her own label, creating ‘sustainable, luxury pieces you will treasure forever’. Her pieces, many of which are made in 100% silk in exclusive prints, are inspired by the glamour and jet-set of the 60s and 70s.

Sustainability is at the core of the Ellie Lines brand. She makes some items to order to reduce waste and also creates one-off pieces with leftover fabrics to ensure nothing goes to waste. Her beautiful, stylish designs have a strong sense of fun, and many are designed with a particular friend in mind.

She’s here to discuss the true meaning of slow fashion, the realities of building a fashion brand during a pandemic and why we should all embrace the joy of dressing up.

We also have some brilliant advice from last week’s guest, Women’s Association founder Deborah Williams, on her mindful approach to mental health.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • Our latest guest is Deborah Williams, founder of The Women’s Association, a pioneering organisation aiming to “change systems, cultures and mindsets that make women and girls feel like we have to be anything other than our authentic selves at work and in the wider world.”

Deborah first became aware of the experiences of women in leadership positions during her dissertation research for her Masters degree, and was shocked by the widespread inequality, discrimination and prejudice that these women had encountered. Determined to fight for change, Deborah set up The Women’s Association.

The company’s recent work includes the Executive Challenge, giving girls aged 12 - 17 the opportunity to learn about life as an executive, and the ‘For the Woman’ campaign, spotlighting women across different industries and career levels and celebrating their contribution to the working world.

She joins Pips this week to discuss leadership styles, the importance of emotional and cultural intelligence and the ongoing issue of the gender pay gap.
