We're working through six small steps to help you grow in your spiritual habits, based off of our new book, Building Spiritual Habits in the Home.
And today's step is all about timing. The when of your spiritual habits matters so much! Especially in terms of when you start—when you pick up something entirely new, choose to make a change and restart, or commit to build consistency, it is vital to choose the right opportunity for that new beginning.
It's something habit scientists have been preaching for years, but there's so much biblical basis for this idea, too! Follow your energy peaks throughout the day, and plan your moments of engaging with God and one another around morning and evening. Pay attention to seasonal landmarks, whether rooted on the calendar, seasons, or personal moments in your life. Always find the grace to begin again. (And when you do, make sure you do it on a Monday!)

It might sounds like a complicated, monk-ish Latin practice. But this one is much easier than you think! And we think it might just be the alms to the ailments of anyone who is busy, hurried, and wanting to engage with God.
Kids can do it. Adults can do it. And here's the best part: There really are no rules about how or when you do it!
Join Clayton, Chris, and Amy for a fun, grace-filled conversation about fussing with the practice of Examen. And give it a try! With these suggestions, we know you'll walk away with an easy way to slow down and reflect on all that God has done.
Start by simply asking: What was good? What was hard? What's next?
It's all about slowing down enough to notice the handprint of God on our lives.
