Have you ever found yourself questioning the allure of extreme endurance challenges? This episode takes you along on the raw and unfiltered journey of a hiker who's battling the elements, her own limitations, and the clock to set a fastest known time on a demanding trail. As she faces injury, sickness, and the scarcity of resources, we're invited to reflect on our own pursuits of voluntary discomfort and the historical inevitability of suffering. It's a narrative that probes the depths of human resilience and asks what it truly means to push ourselves beyond the boundaries of our comfort zones.
Join me as I draw parallels between her extraordinary quest and an adventure that resonates closer to home. Alongside a group of mom friends, I recall the daunting task of summiting four 14,000-foot peaks in a single day, an experience that brought us face to face with our own grit and resilience. As we unpack these stories, they become a larger conversation about the psychological drivers of extreme endeavors, the management of risk, and the invaluable lessons learned when we confront our fears head-on. This isn't just a recounting of arduous treks—it's an exploration of the indomitable human spirit.🥾 To learn more about Hike Like A Woman visit https://www.hikelikeawoman.com

Ever found yourself yearning for the joy and novelty of travel while stuck in the monotony of daily life? Kat Medina joins us this week to unpack the concept of "asshole autopilot," where our brains fall into an efficiency trap, causing us to miss the beauty in our routine surroundings. We discuss how to combat this by being present and grateful and how embracing the traveler's mindset can reignite a sense of adventure in our everyday experiences.
During our conversation, we confront the inner critic that so often sabotages our sense of productivity, especially poignant through the lens of pregnancy and parenthood. Kat Medina opens up about her journey of redefining what it means to be productive, sharing her strategies for keeping creativity alive in the face of self-doubt. We also discuss the power of changing environments and setting specific rules to help foster creativity, taking inspiration from thought leaders like Brené Brown.
In the final part of our episode, we delve into the essence of gratitude in our daily lives, reflecting on how to maintain a sense of awe and appreciation even when the excitement of travel fades. We also cover the complexities of parenthood, with Medina providing glimpses of her own experiences traveling with her baby. It's an episode that promises to shift your perspective and perhaps even change how you interact with the world around you, whether navigating the trials of parenthood or simply trying to inject a little 'Pura Vida' into your day-to-day. Join us for a journey through life's joys, challenges, and transformative moments with Kat Medina.

Overcoming adversity can lead to extraordinary outcomes, a truth I've lived firsthand. My battle with illness and the mental toll of chemotherapy sparked a transformation.
I went from scrolling through social media with a heavy heart to planning a virtual summit to celebrate and amplify the voices of inspiring women. The path has been both challenging and rewarding.
On today's show I take you behind the scenes of putting together our first virtual summit.

From a spark of adventure to igniting a fitness revolution, Yvonne's journey as Founder of Women's Fitness Adventures began with a simple desire to rediscover the joys of the outdoors.
After stepping away from a Global Corporate Role in Women's Health and Wellness she embarked on a life changing hike on the Great Ocean Road, in Victoria, Australia. In total it was 110km/68 miles.
That experience - filled with physical challenges, laughter and camaraderie - was the catalyst for the creation of Women's Fitness Adventures - with the belief that all women should experience the outdoors in a supportive community.
Over the past 10 years as Founder, she's garnered acclaim from top media outlets and was also named a Woman of Influence for her innovative outdoor hiking fitness programs.
Now, 10 years on, her company has empowered thousands of women to grow stronger and more confident, forging lasting friendships and unforgettable memories along the way.

I remember the moment I realized my cancer journey was far from over; it was when I laced up my trashed running shoes and decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. That's right, join me as I walk you through the transformative shifts in my training regimen, a testament to the power of resilience and the capacity for change within us all. With the Hike Like a Woman group's climb looming in June, I've revamped my approach, and I'm eager to share the breakthroughs that have eased my anxiety and could revolutionize the way you tackle your own mountains—literal or figurative. And since we're on the subject of steps forward, I'm curious—what are your go-to running shoes? I'm in the market for a new pair, and your recommendations would mean the world.
This podcast isn't just about prep for a summit; it's a reflection of a journey with my post-cancer body. I open up about the struggle to embrace my new strengths and the ongoing battle with treatment side effects. But it's also about the reclaiming of my spirit through setting the monumental goal of reaching the peak of Kilimanjaro, which symbolizes my 'cancer finish line.' As I share the insights gleaned from changing 'working out' to 'training' for a purpose, I invite you to consider how language shapes our mindset and actions. Whether you're navigating your own health battles, considering a grand adventure, or simply looking for inspiration to persevere, this episode promises to connect and embolden.Support the Show.

Meet Stacy.
Having grown up in the midwest and spent most of her life there, she now calls Colorado home. She is most happy hiking and backpacking the the mountains of Colorado and southern Wyoming. As member of the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers, who patrol the trails of the Roosevelt National Forest educating hikers, picking up trash, caring for trails and campsites and reporting back to the USPS, she has found that education is important for all visitors on the trail. She has been in mixed animal practice, the university teaching hospitals, oncology, emergency medicine, research, teaching veterinary and veterinary technician students and now in the veterinary industry for a major veterinary instrumentation company.. Her passion is educating and teaching others. as one should always be learning. In addition, she will be a Hiking Guide for Full Potential Wilderness ( a women owned company) next summer guiding hikers in Rocky Mountain National Park.
We're excited to have her present at our summit.
