  • The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best friends figuring life out, one episode at a time.

This week we’re learning to lower our expectations in order to actually enjoy ourselves more. Mel’s summer holiday dreams weren’t quite the same as the reality, so we’re letting go of the Insta-perfect highlight reels and letting ourselves find joy in the bloopers. And talking of bloopers – have you been watching And Just Like That? Unattainable wealth and overwhelming cringe aside, this season has offered us some interesting meditations on grief that seem to have been lifted directly from Sinéad’s brain.

We’re taking a break so Sinéad can go on her honeymoon, so let’s catch up in the Autumn!

This week we’re doing it: we’re officially backing ourselves at work. We’re reflecting on everything we’ve learnt over the past 6 seasons - how Imposter Syndrome functions, how we can manage it and what our values are, and now we’re putting it into practice. We’re talking about figuring out what you need, making your business case (we know, we know), and managing that difficult conversation. Also, in a sentence we’d never thought we’d say: the Swifties are unionizing (please don't come for us). Where does the line between actively participating in a fandom and collective bargaining lie? And why are people applying the language of industrial action to the personal life of a 33 year-old woman?

This week we’re talking about the most underrated life skill: knowing when to quit. Why is it that quitting is always seen as a bad thing, when it often shows that you’re self-aware enough to know when something isn’t working? We’ve been thinking about why simplifying your life feels so good, and sharing how to do that – plus, Sinéad’s got something she needs to get off her chest…

This week we’re getting intimate. Mel’s been thinking about the intimacy of motherhood and we chat about the different types of intimacy, why it’s not just about sex, and the romantic magic of female friendship. Plus, QUEER EYE IS BACK and it’s unsurprisingly got us talking about vulnerability, masculinity and why talking about - not solving - your problems is so important.

  • The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best mates figuring life out, one episode at a time.

Did you know pine nuts cost £6 now? We’re chatting about the outrageous cost of living – from food, to fuel, to childcare – and why struggling to make ends meet isn’t a moral failing. Is the cost of living why we’re all so invested in Succession, the prestige TV showing us just how miserable the ultra-rich really are? And finally, Summer is coming and Sinéad’s off on her honeymoon – cue that voice in our heads telling us to get ‘beach body ready’, whatever that means…

We left you on a cliffhanger: Sinéad was about to start a new job and Mel was heading back to work after maternity leave. In that time we’ve discovered new versions of ourselves at work, struggled with what feels like a never-ending doom cycle in the news, and dived into the hazy, rose-tinted world of Daisy Jones’s 1970s California.

What’s your dream job? Chances are you thought of a title, a salary - the status symbol that our success is judged by. But is the reality really that dreamy? In the final episode of Season 5, we deep-dive into the concept of the dream job, how it shapes our ambition and working style, and how the dream - or the myth - has changed in the past few years.

The job hunt: a time in your life that starts out full of hope and quite quickly becomes a bit soul-destroying. Sinéad’s been there all season - in that big cycle of hope and rejection, where separating your worth from the essential criteria on a job description can be tricky. Sound familiar? Don’t worry! The time has come. Nursery is booked, start date at work is confirmed, flexible working is approved - and Melissa is feeling EVERYTHING. Returning to work after having a child comes with a lot of conflicting emotions, pressures, and a sense of being pulled in 100 different directions - is it something we can every truly be ready for? Well, probably not - but there are things you can do to prepare practically and emotionally. We’re joined this week by pregnancy and postpartum therapist Sophie Harris aka @looking_after_mum, to talk about managing expectations, honest conversations and feeling more confident about returning to work.

We're in the booked and busy era, but 53% of women say their stress levels are even higher than they were a year ago. It seems that burnout is NOT a conversation to be left in 2020. It’s very real, very relevant and very much something we need to be aware of in order to manage and prevent it, rid ourselves of shame around it and work together to create a working culture that doesn’t make us ill. We’re joined this episode by Dr Sam Akbar, Clinical Psychologist and author of the frankly vital new book, Stressilient: How to Beat Stress and Build Resilience, to talk burnout, self-compassion and banning ‘good vibes only’.

Let us take you on a little trip down memory lane. It’s 2014: we’re trying to get our foot on the professional ladder, tentatively calling ourselves feminists, and holding an Urban Outfitters mug that says ‘you have the same 24 hours as Beyoncé’. It is the era of the #girlboss. How did she shape the professional ambitions of a generation of young women? Has hustle culture burnt us out? And with time of death officially called on the Girlboss in 2020, what do we do with that vision of work now?

In this episode we’re joined by Seyda Karimpour, founder of Seasons of Work, a community platform for multi-passionates who want to push back against hustle culture and find their own rhythm in work and life.

In our final episode (before we head off to get married, write a PhD thesis and have a baby- not necessarily at the same time), we’re talking about what nobody seems to want to talk about: money. Sinéad and Melissa discuss how the pandemic has changed their relationships with money, why finances can make us question whether we’re good enough and how we can move forward and prioritise financial wellbeing in the new normal (we know, we know). We’re also joined by the brilliant Ellie Austin-Williams of This Girl Talks Money to chat about overcoming financial fear, having conversations about money with the people we care about and finding balance.

Mel’s having a baby! In this episode she shares her story so far: the journey to getting pregnant and what it’s been like growing a new human. This topic is far from simple, and true to form we couldn’t stop talking once we’ve started, so this episode will come to you in two parts. • The Imposters Club is back with The Good Enough Guide, a 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you.

It’s safe to say we’ve dealt with a LOT of changes over the past 18 months. Some of them have been externally imposed, like the lockdowns and restrictions, redundancies and bereavements. Some have been changes we’ve chosen, like choosing to leave a relationship that’s not working or a career change. Whether they’re joyful choices or devastating changes, change can feel really destabilizing and scary- and that can make us question our own worth. So we chatted to certified life coach and founder of the Curiosity Club, Catri Barrett, about how to cope with change, lean into the fear and adopt a growth mindset, whatever changes you’ve experienced.

It’s been a really tough 18 months - amidst the difficult lockdowns and anxiety, many of us have been dealing with the deaths of the people we love. The pandemic and necessary restrictions have affected how we grieve- it’s changed our mourning rituals and robbed us of the support systems we lean on. And while talking about death and grief is hard, it’s so important- so we asked Amber Jeffrey, founder of The Grief Gang podcast to chat to us about normalising grief, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and how we can support each other.

Sinéad is getting married! Well, hopefully. Covid has had a lot to say about milestones like weddings, and a lot of marriage plans have been thrown into the air over the past 18 months. Added to all this uncertainty is the pervading sense of not being good enough- not being the Pinterest-perfect couple, struggling to keep every relative happy or not being enough of a grown up. We caught up with some of the lovely brides and grooms in our community who told us about their plans, how they’re feeling and the lessons they’ve learnt about getting married in a pandemic.
