In another high-profile killing that involved a knife...Chris takes you back to the scene where Matthew Cecchi, 9, had his life taken from an assailant with a knife inside an Oceanside, Calif. bathroom some 25 years later. On Nov. 14, 1998, Matthew had his life taken while inside a public beachside bathroom in Oceanside. Matthew and his family were visiting the Oceanside Harbor for a family reunion. Chris was the lead investigator on the case. The assailant, Brandon Wilson, 20, used a 4-inch knife on his victim. He confessed to the murder and showed Chris in one of the most chilling videotaped police interviews ever shared how he did it. Wilson was convicted, sentenced to death, and sent to San Quentin Prison's death row. While in prison, Wilson unlived himself in 2011. Susan Smith, the killer mom who drowned her two young boys in a lake in 1994, is up for parole in November 2024. On Oct. 25, 1994, Susan Smith, 23, told police she was carjacked by a black male who took her two young sons inside the car. Her story rocked her small hometown of Union, South Carolina, and the country. For days, she appeared on TV news with her estranged husband, David Smith, crying and pleading for her boys' return. After nine days, Smith confessed to police that she drove her car, with her boys strapped in their car seats inside, into John D. Long Lake. Smith was convicted of two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison - at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood, South Carolina - with a possibility of parole after 30 years. She is up for parole on Nov. 4, 2024.

We take you to the exact spot on the rural road in South Carolina -- nearby Alex Murdaugh's 1,700-acre hunting lodge called Moselle -- where he staged a fake car breakdown on Sept. 4, 2021 -- nearly three months after the murders of his wife and son -- and reported being shot in the head. Alex called 911, claiming he had been shot, had a superficial wound, and needed medical aid. Later, Murdaugh's distant cousin and former client, Curtis Edward Smith, 61, "Cousin Eddie," reported that Alex allegedly confessed the murders to him. Murdaugh's attorneys said that wasn't true and that Alex had wanted to end his life.
