This episode is with Steven Powell, who heads up the Sydney branch of Comhaltas. We chat about how Steven ended up in Sydney in 2000 without even realising the Olympics was on. Despite being from Navan Road in Dublin, Steven is a gaeilgeoir, having gone to an All-Irish school and helped relaunch the Sydney Comhaltas branch in 2019. Steven talks about the Comhaltas Sydney group's many event partnerships, which help facilitate multiple events throughout the year around Irish dancing, music, and language. Comhaltas is probably synonymous with the big Fleadh back home every year and encourages everyone to come along to the Sydney Fleadh, happening May 23rd - 26th.

In this episode, I chat with Liam Shorte, a native of Athy, Co Kildare, who has lived in Australia longer than in Ireland. Liam is an SMSF (Self Managed Super Fund) and superannuation specialist who runs his financial planning practice in Sydney. Liam has won multiple industry awards for his work around SMSFs and superannuation, so it was great to chat with him.
I chatted with Laim about superannuation in general, insurance with superannuation, and the option of moving from an industry fund to an SMSF. If you are looking to focus on your superannuation and take a more active approach to managing it, be it through your existing fund or potentially looking at the SMSF option, then Liam provides some good tips on where to start.
You can learn more about Liam through his two businesses, The SMSF Coach and his broader financial planning business, Sonas Wealth. Liam is also very active on LinkedIn, sharing important news regarding superannuation legislation changes and strategies for maximising your superannuation.

The Irish Australia podcast shines a light on Australia's ever-growing Irish community. We interview Irish people living in Australia and get their stories of how they ended up in Australia and what they are up to now. Through their stories and experiences, our guests provide valuable advice to people just coming out to Australia or for those who have decided to stay in Australia for the long term.
