If you're planning a big downsizing process or supporting someone who is, be sure check out this episode!
I talk with my mom, Mary Jane Spencer, about her journey from resistance to acceptance of her downsizing experience.
You'll hear insights about her challenges and successes, and what she loves about her new (much) smaller space.
You may recall that I interviewed Mary Jane way back in episode #6 The Power of Starting Small: Mary Jane's Story. The lessons from that episode helped to pave the way to the completion of her downsizing process.
Enjoy!

Hi! It’s been a while and I wanted to check in with a reminder to breathe. In times of uncertainty (like what we’re experiencing with the US Presidential election, for instance…), it is vital that we remember to tune in with the breath. In this short episode, I share 2 upcoming episode topics and also give some specific tips on breathing.
Until next time, keep on breathing and keep on Purifying!

As I shared in episode 83 on reclaiming motivation for Purifying and decluttering, I’ve been struggling with my podcasting inspiration. I thought I had it back, and I’m realizing now that I don’t.
In order to honor you as the listener, myself as the podcast host, and the energy of Purification itself, I’m pausing the podcast for September and October 2020. The pause may extend until the end of the year. We’ll see! I’m excited to see what this time may bring.
I will be continuing to see individual coaching clients during this pause, so if this autumn feels like the right time to ignite your Purification process and you’d like my support, schedule a 20-minute free consultation call.

Let’s keep in touch during this pause! Join the Let’s Purify! email newsletter for updates, offerings, and Purification musings.

We all lose our motivation sometimes… including me. As I was preparing to record this episode, I had to face my own lack of motivation and inspiration for podcasting. Fortunately, by following the steps I outline in this episode I was able to reclaim my motivation!
It is very common to start the decluttering and Purification process with gusto just to feel deflated a few hours, days, or weeks later. These 3 steps will help you understand what’s at the root of your lacking motivation – and take your next steps.
Three Steps to Reclaim Your Decluttering Motivation (and even get inspired & excited!) Acknowledge without Judgment – Name what has occurred. Be compassionate and open with yourself. This way you can take responsibility for where you are, without condemning yourself for it. Explore – Think back to what was happening in your life and your Purification process when you got derailed. See if you can identify what happened that caused you to stop. It could be external circumstances or internal experiences. Simply be curious – explore and notice. Prioritize – Without judgment, determine if Purifying is a true priority right now. Check in with your why: Why did you want to Purify and declutter in the first place? It may be that you need to intentionally pause your process so you can attend to other things right now. Or, after exploring the reasons you really want to do this, you may realize you want to get started again right away!3a. Pause with Purpose – If you need to take a pause from Purifying, pause with purpose. See if you can bring your current process to an intentional close – pack things back up and seal off the energy of your process so you can move onto other priorities without guilt.
3b. Stoke the Fire – If you decide you want to re-start your process, deepen your inspiration. Journal about your why, visualize your Purified home, get excited! Talk with your bestie about your why and what will be different in your life after you’ve Purified away the excess. Create a plan to address the things you discovered when you were exploring in step 2.
May these steps help you to clarify your priorities and determine which next steps are right for you.
If you need some help getting motivated…I’d love to help! Let’s see how we can work together to get you re-inspired and motivated. TAP HERE to schedule a free 20-minute consultation now. You’ll answer a few questions and we’ll connect for your consultation over the phone or video conference (your preference!).

Professional Organizer Pam Holland of Mindful Decluttering & Organizing invited me to co-host her Ask the Organizer Q&A event in June 2020. The topic was The Inner Art of Decluttering – and we received some amazing, deep, and soulful questions!
During this August’s Podcast Pause, I’m releasing the audio from that event in a series of 10 parts. While I won’t be sharing any full-length regular episodes this month, you’ll still have plenty to listen to.
We answer questions about the inner aspects of decluttering such as: stuckness, overwhelm, where to begin, self-talk and beliefs, sentimental items and attachment, grief, and more!

You may recall that back in June, I joined Pam Holland (professional organizer of Mindful Decluttering & Organizing) for her live Q&A event on The Inner Art of Decluttering.
In preparation for that event, Pam and I decided to exchange sessions so we could directly experience each other’s work.
In this episode, you get a behind the scenes look at my session with Pam! I share some background on the linen closet I was addressing, as well as the three most helpful things I received from Pam’s work (there were many, and for time’s sake, I narrowed it down to three). Visit letspurify.energy/82 to see the before and after photos.
I also share three big takeaways that I received from having a session with a professional organizer:
Commitment: Committing to the session helped me commit to actually doing the work. Acceptance: Being held in non-judgment by Pam helped me accept myself – and my closet! Action: Knowing I was being held accountable helped me take action and fully complete my Purification process. This episode is full of details about the journey: my inner resistance, my aha moments, and my new perspective. I hope it inspires you to get started on your process. And if you find yourself wishing you had some support, I hope it encourages you to reach out and get it! Set up a call with a friend, reach out to Pam, or set up a free consultation with me. We’re here to help.
For more of Pam's wisdom on the podcast, tune in to episode 19: Mindful Organizing in 7 Steps with Pam Holland and episode 74: Decluttering & The Chakras with Professional Organizer Pam Holland.

Hoarding is an often misunderstood condition. Societal judgment and fear can lead to deep shame for people who hoard.
In episode 33: Is All This Excess Stuff A Sign Of Hoarding, I shared some background information about hoarding. This week we dive deeper into hoarding in a conversation with hoarding expert, Jen Hanzlick.
Jen is the owner and founder of Clutter Trucker, a Colorado-based hoarding clean out company. Along with her hoarding expertise, she brings compassion, understanding, and respect to the conversation.
Jen shares:
Why she started her hoarding clean out business, Clutter Trucker The 4 criteria of Hoarding Disorder How Jen brings compassion and understanding to her clients The process Clutter Trucker uses to support its clients Recommendations for listeners who think they may be hoarding Recommendations for listeners who have a friend, neighbor or family member who may be hoardingJen’s recommendations for friends, neighbors, and family members of people who may be hoarding were so powerful and practical I want to share them here:
Drop your expectations Focus on the person – the being of who they are, not how their home looks Educate yourself on hoarding (Clutter Trucker's blog is a great place to start!) Treat the person who is hoarding like a person, not somebody you ‘have to fix’ Be a true source of supportFor a truly inspiring talk about humanizing hoarding, check out Jen’s TEDx Boulder talk HERE.
About JenJennifer Hanzlick is the founder and owner of Clutter Trucker, a hoarding clean out company based in Denver. She provides education and awareness on the topic of hoarding disorder and compassion to the community, non-profit organizations and local government agencies.

Your vehicle is a magical creation! It allows you to travel rapidly through time and space. It takes you where you want to go.
Purifying in your car, truck, or SUV gives your vehicle some much-deserved attention. By Purifying and cleaning your vehicle, you can also establish stronger, more clear energy for your travels. Read on for some holistic decluttering and Purification tips!
Tips For Purifying In Your Vehicle As always, begin with the breath. Before you even open your vehicle’s door, plant your feet on the ground. Receive a few deep, centering breaths. Offer appreciation and gratitude. From this grounded space, give thanks for your vehicle. Notice what it allows you to do and where it takes you. Purify. Sort through all of the objects in your vehicle. Recycle and toss things as appropriate. Return other items to their proper places in the garage, basement, or other areas of the home. Make a pile of items that will return to your vehicle. Clean. Wipe down the surfaces, vacuum the seats and floors. (Tune in with episode 18: Celebrating the Energetic & Practical Importance of House Cleaning for inspiration to clean!) Consider washing the exterior of your vehicle, too. Organize. Re-place objects that belong in the vehicle so they are organized and accessible. Set an Intention. Consider setting an intention for your vehicle such as safe travels or joyful adventures. Select an intention that is meaningful and resonates with you. Select Some Traveling Companions. Consider inviting some companions to join you. These could be figurines, crystals, or anything else that brings a strong positive energy to your vehicle. Create a Ritual. Establish a consistent ritual for Purifying in your vehicle. This will remind you to shower your vehicle with appreciation. You’ll also begin to clear out the accumulated clutter on a more regular basis.I hope these tips will lead you to creating a more harmonious relationship with your vehicle.
Until next time, keep on Purifying!
