Your body is always talking to you. Today we explore the emotional and traumatic underpinnings of physical pain and what the body is attempting to show us with guest, Rachel Wittenberger.

Rachel is a physical therapist with an atypical approach to working with ailments and guiding you and your body back into harmony. With a holistic approach to treating pain and dis-ease Rachel and Kelly discuss factors contributing to physical discomfort and dysfunctional movement patterns.

Together we unwrap the profound links between our physical and emotional states. Chronic pain isn't just a signal of bodily distress; it's often a cry from unhealed traumas seeking attention.

With over two decades of experience as a physical therapist, Rachel reveals the critical role self-awareness plays in our health, advocating for a treatment approach that listens to the whispers of the body and treats the root causes of pain, rather than just the symptoms.

Rachel's expertise in functional physical therapy and osteopathic manipulation shines a spotlight on the significance of considering the whole kinetic chain. We consider how modern lifestyles, with their sedentary demands, can throw a wrench into our musculoskeletal system, while also touching on the environmental factors that leave imprints on our health.

Through personal anecdotes of healing and professional insights, this episode is an invitation to pursue a balanced narrative for your body and spirit and deepen your curiosity into the messages behind the discomfort.

Today my conversation with Kelsey Edwards, highlights the power and freedom that we reclaim when we bravely extract ourselves from outdated beliefs, patterns and relationship dynamics. Our dialogue meanders from Kelsey's courageous exit from the Mormon church to the universal tug towards authenticity and compassion, all while the chords of "Life in a Box" strike a chord with anyone yearning to break free from confining narratives.

Venturing further, we lay bare the tangled webs of food, body image, and mental health. I get candid about my brush with orthorexia and the delicate dance of mindful eating, opening up a space for listeners to reflect on their own paths to balance. Then, the spotlight shifts to the art of manifestation. I recount my own awakening to the power of subconscious reprogramming and the profound impact of aligning our subconscious with our conscious desires.

As we near the close of our journey, the conversation ebbs towards the evolution of relationships and belief systems. We discuss how friendships can mirror familial ties and sometimes require a brave reassessment, and how the principles of manifestation can help shape our connections to better reflect our inner world.

Kelsey's story of navigating faith and forging new dreams outside the church's embrace further enriches our episode, promising more depth in the episodes to come. Join us for this vibrant tapestry of personal transformation and discover how to weave your own reality in the Manifestation Lab.

Do at least 3 rounds but extend it if it feels right for you and it is relaxing.Stop tapping and remind yourself to relax your tongue on the floor of your mouth. Relax your jaw and throat.Bring your awareness to your hands and feet and notice the space inside your hands and feet. Take time to work your way through the body slowly and notice the space in each body part. Focus on the space between the eyebrows and notice the space behind your eyes and in your head.Begin breathing in for 6 counts and exhaling for 6 counts. Allow your ribs and diaphragm to expand in 360 degrees and imagine a balloon expanding in your abdomen in 360 degrees while breathing.Visualize the heart space and begin visualizing the inhale and exhale going through your heart space. Imagine a beam of light that is unconditional love coming from your heart and send that to a person or place. Next bring the beam of love and light back into your body and send it throughout your body and to yourself.Reorient to the room by looking at the details around you. Zoom in and see details in the room and also Zoom out and see the room the whole time. Feel the weight of your body gently pressing into the chair beneath you.

Dr. Chris Lawrence is a mom, partner, knitter, camper, hiker, licensed clinical psychologist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis on children and families. She has extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults. Her training in Psychology focused on “mental illness”, “diagnosis” and “cognitive treatment” for all manner of symptoms. However, in 2016 Chris began studying somatic interventions for anxiety, trauma and depression. From the beginning of training, she recognized that she had been looking for a very different perspective than she was originally taught. She leans into the belief that mental health and “dis-ease” are the result of context, environment and culture. She now looks at symptoms as expressions of distress that are a result of an environment that feels unsafe. These environments can be prenatal, familial, neighborhood, work or societal. Unsafe environments may lead to nervous system dysregulation that results in overwhelm or shut down – resulting in what we know as “symptoms”. Treating these “symptoms” involves a reorientation towards our resources - nature, pets, supportive others, movement, to name just a few, and a slow unwinding of our nervous system to allow it to return to our natural state. She has also trained with Kathy Kain and Dr. Stephen Terrell to use therapeutic touch in the treatment of developmental trauma. Dr. Lawrence is an ongoing learner in the area of nervous system regulation, resilience, and the impact of traumatic stress on our bodies. Her newest passion is helping parents and babies work through birth trauma. She founded Chris Lawrence & Associates, LLC (formerly Lawrence, Oliver and Associates, LLC) – a mental health private practice that employs over 20 clinicians. She works directly with clients and provides supervision to students and developing clinicians. She is also the founder and Director of HeartSpace Clinic, a nonprofit organization that offers a wide variety of services focused on building resilience in the face of traumatic stress through interventions that target the nervous system, including the Safe and Sound Protocol developed by Stephen Porges. She offers workshops and training on these topics to a wide variety of groups and organizations. Dr. Lawrence regulates her own nervous system by spending as much time as possible camping and hiking with her partner, knitting, practicing Pilates and cuddling with her chiweenie Ruby.

We talk about the start of my journey with EFT and how it continues to help work through fear and emotional wounding and cultivate courage.

Living a life of alignment isn't always about doing the "easy" thing. Often the very thing your soul is calling you to do is the thing that is the scariest and brings up the most resistance. We talk about how to" follow the bread crumbs" to find alignment one step at a time and why EFT is such a transformational tool for resistance. And we chat about a bunch of other random stuff in-between:)
