As we close out the month of June, enjoy this short episode from Center City Philadelphia where we captured a bit of the event: Celebration of Music Month, by the Thinker Maker Society, who was wrapping up an event in Dilworth Love Park center city. It was a buzz with life, fun, fellowship as people listened to the music, and checked out the vendors who had booths at the event highlighting and selling their talents and goods, in the updated park awash with waterworks as part of its decor. We interviewed Darnell, one of the Organizers of the event and interviewed some of the vendors and patrons.

Where and with whom do we begin? In Part 2 of the #CaribbeanThought Summer 2024 Week 1 Lecture, Prof. Renaldo McKenzie at Jamaica Theological Seminary laid the foundation for the course. Prof. McKenzie reviewed the course outline and delved into some broad thinkers, texts, and general questions of the course. Rev. McKenzie begins the Lecture by making the point that, the realities of the dark ghettoes and or black and brown communities resemble the colonies and or former colonies within the caribbean. The socioeconomic realities of the black and brown peoples in the global north are similar to that of the black experience in the Caribbean which is largely made up of nations that are made of the predominantly black.
This course focuses on and explores the diverse currents of Caribbean Thought, which have influenced the development of Caribbean societies from colonialism toindependence and beyond. It traces the history of resistance and examines the quest for equality and the challenge of defining Caribbean identity within thispost-colonial and neoliberal Globalized world not just within the geographic sense but also in terms of a diasporic sense.
It challenges the students to develop and express their own critical thinking as a Caribbean people in a unique way that helps to realize further the hope of a free independent Caribbean that is bursting with hope andopportunity. However, the course understands that it requires that students begin to critique and explore their own thinking in a deeply esoteric and critical waythat deconstructs history and philosophy. At the end they will create their own Caribbean thought leading to a Caribbean Academic Journal of Young academicsand future scholars. The Course will make you estranged from self, but it is geared towards getting you out of your bubble and considering issues that willmake you uncomfortable.
Frantz Fanon, Homi Bhabha, C. L. R. James, Bob Marley et al, and Christianity/Religion, music and sports are currents we will explore. The episode has images of course resources; such as texts, maps, notable characters that will be referenced throughout the course, etc.The Lecture is very informative and provides an introductory level to the discussions in postcolonialism with academia and Pan African Thought. The Lecture is part of a course offered at Jamaica Theological Seminary and students seeking a 4-year degree at the seminary are required to sit the course. The course follows strict academic rigor and scrutiny. There is an exam at the end of the course. which students are required to sit. The lecture episodes are a production of The Neoliberal Corporation and are made available on The NeoLiberal Round podcast and YouTube channel for educational purposes and to promote and facilitate access to critical thinking and learning. We took to the streets in Philadelphia to ascertain people's reactions toward Donald Trump being convicted on all 34 counts related to the Stormy Daniel's Hush Money trial. We spoke with several individuals randomly. Some persons were unaware of the case and conviction, and others were shocked that he was convicted based on Trump's ability to win cases. Most of the respondents indicated that it did not change their opinions one way or the other. But several individuals questioned whether a convicted felon can run and serve as President of the US given the fact that convicted felons are not allowed to take certain positions.
The episode promises to be quite revealing and enlightening.

John Anthony Castro, a 2024 GOP U.S. Presidential Candidate who notably sued Donald Trump, has been found guilty on all 33 counts related to Federal Tax Fraud. Castro, a frequent guest on The NeoLiberal Round Podcast, had gained attention by suing Trump for violating Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. His legal challenges were discussed extensively on the podcast series “Castro v. Trump,” where he was a key contributor.
According to Erin Dooley at the Media Affairs Office at the Texas Department of Justice, in a press release stated that
Following a five-day bench trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Terry R Means, he was convicted on all 33 counts of assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent return and was immediately taken into custody” (Press Release by the DOJ on Friday May 24, 2024: https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndtx/pr/mansfield-tax-preparer-convicted-33-counts-tax-fraud-after-bench-trial).
Despite his high-profile legal battles, Castro’s lawsuits in multiple states were largely dismissed. In January, he filed an appeal in Florida against Judge Eileen Cannon’s decision to dismiss his case and sought her recusal from all cases involving Trump, citing bias. Concurrently, Castro faced his own legal troubles, being indicted on Federal Tax Fraud charges.
In January 2024, The NeoLiberal Round Podcast released an episode featuring Castro, where he vehemently denied any wrongdoing related to the indictment. He explained the errors leading to the charges and stated that he had taken steps to correct them. Castro expressed confidence in his ability to clear his name and reiterated his commitment to his presidential campaign.
On April 16, 2024, Castro provided an update, maintaining his innocence and preparing for his May 20th hearing. He indicated plans to testify and expressed a desire to step away from politics afterward. However, following the hearing, on May 20th, Castro was arrested and taken into custody.
The Texas State Department of Justice released details of the ruling, revealing that Castro, owner of the virtual tax preparation business Castro & Company, had falsely inflated client tax returns. Convicted on all 33 counts of assisting in the preparation of fraudulent returns, Castro now faces up to 99 years in federal prison, with each count carrying a potential three-year sentence... (McKenzie, Renaldo, https://theneoliberal.com/john-anthony-castro-found-guilty-on-all-33-counts-of-federal-tax-fraud/, in The Neoliberal Journals.
On this episode, I share the article, present an audio by John Castro on April 16th 2024 and introduce the episode with a discussion between myself and a guest contributor, Maurice Smith.

Martin Oppenheimer has a new book out. It is entitled "The Rise And Fall Of The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee," published in April 2024. The book is an expert analysis of SNCC's history from its inception to now. With a deep understanding of protest movements in America, and his work as a Sociologist and Professor at Rutgers, Penn, and Lincoln University over the years, and his research and works on the State of Modern Society, he was able to provide an erudite analysis, combining history with reality. Recently, there have been several student protests on university campuses against the Israel-Palestinian War and the US support, calling for a ceasefire. Nevertheless, these actions are not as organized as they were in the 1960s and beyond, where student movements were institutional, strategic, and coordinated. Oppenheimer's new book makes this case by presenting his arguments using historical and sociological analysis in a novel and powerful way. Martin will be featured in The Neoliberal Round Podcast with host Renaldo McKenzie, talking about his new book in an upcoming episode to be released by the end of May 2024. Here is the Preface of his new book available at Ingram Spark, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and The Neoliberal Corporation Store, store.theneoliberal.com.
The Preface:
We were among the dozens of German-Jewish refugee families from Nazi Germany who ended up becoming chicken farmers in semi-rural South Jersey during the War. A school bus took me to a Middle School for my eighth grade. One day around Easter time, I heard a shout directed at me: “Christ killer.” Yes, the old libel from the Middle Ages from my neighbors’ children while the war against the Nazi state was still underway. There were no Black people in the local town but one day the school bus stopped at a driveway leading to a large farm to pick up two Black kids maybe eight or nine years old. The white kids on the bus loudly erupted with the N word while the two Black kids hovered, frightened, in their seats. I got up and loudly over the noise said, “Why are you yelling at them, they’ve done nothing to you!” Some of the white kids then turned on me, calling me a “N-lover.” I had never heard that expression. I learned later in my college sociology class what I had done: I had “identified with the oppressed.” Sociology opened the door to learning more about both oppressors like the local kids on the bus and what they represented on a larger scale, and the oppressed, like the new kids and the millions who looked like them. I joined my University’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People club. In 1953, I was drafted into the tail-end of the Korean war and spent nine months stationed in Alabama. If you had eyes, you could see in the neighboring towns the realities of full-scale racial segregation, though as a Northern white soldier you should, for your safety, ignore it. A few years later, just as I was searching for a Ph.D. dissertation topic within the broad field of what was not yet called African-American studies, it dropped into my lap: The Sit-In Movement of “Negro” (not yet Black) students in the South had just begun.
The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s....

The relationship between theology and culture is a complex and multifaceted one, with scholars and practitioners offering differing perspectives on whether theology should transcend culture or be deeply embedded within it (Transcendence Vs the Immanence of God and theology). To address this question, it is essential to define theology and culture and explore their interplay in both historical and contemporary contexts.Theology, at its core, is the study of the divine, religious beliefs, and the nature of the divine being or beings. It encompasses doctrines, rituals, ethics, and interpretations of sacred texts within various religious traditions. Culture, on the other hand, refers to the shared beliefs, values, customs, and practices of a particular group of people, often shaped by factors such as history, geography, language, and social structures.Throughout history, theology and culture have been intertwined, influencing and shaping each other in profound ways. Religious beliefs and practices are often deeply embedded within cultural contexts, reflecting the values, norms, and traditions of a society. Conversely, theology has also played a role in shaping culture, providing frameworks for understanding the world, guiding ethical behavior, and fostering community cohesion. However, the question of whether theology should transcend culture raises important considerations regarding the universality of religious truth claims and the diversity of human experiences and perspectives. Proponents of the transcendence of theology argue that religious truths are universal and transcendent, applicable to all people regardless of cultural context. They posit that theology should provide timeless principles and moral guidance that are not bound by cultural limitations. On the other hand, advocates for the embeddedness of theology within culture emphasize the importance of contextualization and cultural relevance in religious practice and interpretation. They argue that theology must be understood and expressed within the cultural frameworks of particular communities, taking into account their unique histories, languages, and worldviews. This approach acknowledges the diversity of human experiences and the dynamic nature of culture, allowing theology to evolve and adapt to changing social contexts.Furthermore, the transcendence of theology over culture can lead to the imposition of dominant cultural norms and values onto marginalized communities, perpetuating systems of power and inequality. Embracing cultural diversity within theology fosters inclusivity, allowing for the voices and perspectives of marginalized groups to be heard and valued within religious discourse. In conclusion, the relationship between theology and culture is a dynamic and complex one, with both perspectives offering valuable insights into the nature of religious belief and practice. While some argue for the transcendence of theology over culture, emphasizing universal truths and principles, others advocate for the embeddedness of theology within culture, acknowledging the diversity of human experiences and the importance of cultural context. Ultimately, the challenge lies in finding a balance between these perspectives, recognizing the universality of religious truths while respecting the diversity of cultural expressions and interpretations.Written and Presented by Rev.
