  • Martin Oppenheimer has a new book out. It is entitled "The Rise And Fall Of The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee," published in April 2024. The book is an expert analysis of SNCC's history from its inception to now. With a deep understanding of protest movements in America, and his work as a Sociologist and Professor at Rutgers, Penn, and Lincoln University over the years, and his research and works on the State of Modern Society, he was able to provide an erudite analysis, combining history with reality. Recently, there have been several student protests on university campuses against the Israel-Palestinian War and the US support, calling for a ceasefire. Nevertheless, these actions are not as organized as they were in the 1960s and beyond, where student movements were institutional, strategic, and coordinated. Oppenheimer's new book makes this case by presenting his arguments using historical and sociological analysis in a novel and powerful way. Martin will be featured in The Neoliberal Round Podcast with host Renaldo McKenzie, talking about his new book in an upcoming episode to be released by the end of May 2024. Here is the Preface of his new book available at Ingram Spark, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and The Neoliberal Corporation Store, store.theneoliberal.com.

    The Preface:

We were among the dozens of German-Jewish refugee families from Nazi Germany who ended up becoming chicken farmers in semi-rural South Jersey during the War. A school bus took me to a Middle School for my eighth grade. One day around Easter time, I heard a shout directed at me: “Christ killer.” Yes, the old libel from the Middle Ages from my neighbors’ children while the war against the Nazi state was still underway. There were no Black people in the local town but one day the school bus stopped at a driveway leading to a large farm to pick up two Black kids maybe eight or nine years old. The white kids on the bus loudly erupted with the N word while the two Black kids hovered, frightened, in their seats. I got up and loudly over the noise said, “Why are you yelling at them, they’ve done nothing to you!” Some of the white kids then turned on me, calling me a “N-lover.” I had never heard that expression. I learned later in my college sociology class what I had done: I had “identified with the oppressed.” Sociology opened the door to learning more about both oppressors like the local kids on the bus and what they represented on a larger scale, and the oppressed, like the new kids and the millions who looked like them. I joined my University’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People club. In 1953, I was drafted into the tail-end of the Korean war and spent nine months stationed in Alabama. If you had eyes, you could see in the neighboring towns the realities of full-scale racial segregation, though as a Northern white soldier you should, for your safety, ignore it. A few years later, just as I was searching for a Ph.D. dissertation topic within the broad field of what was not yet called African-American studies, it dropped into my lap: The Sit-In Movement of “Negro” (not yet Black) students in the South had just begun.

The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s....

  • What's learning and education like in Haiti, given the socio-political upheavals in Haiti over the years and especially over the last few months when Haiti had declared a state of emergency? The NeoLiberal Round Host and Creator, Prof. Renaldo McKenzie, sat down for a live interview with the team at Lakou Kajou and Blue Butterfly (bbutterfly.org) to talk about their project/program to create and provide digital learning by Haitians for Haitians. The Interview features: Suzanne Cole, Co-Chief Executive Officer/Dir of Operations at https://bbutterfly.org, (in Philadelphia USA)

Bessy Pade, Educational Consultant at Lakou Kajou (who was joining from France),

and Jovanie Marie-Aure Judilius, Lakou Kajou Coordinator in Haiti (who was joining from Port Au Prince, Haiti).

The production team was in Jamaica where the interview was streamed. The team provided a powerful analysis and commentary on learning in Haiti and what they are doing to advance learning and to ensure that Haiti is not left behind in the world while Haitians navigate this difficult chapter in their history. The interview was 60 minutes long and included videos, images, stories, and some of their digital content in Haitian Creole interspersed with background music. The show was done in English, but another take will be done in Haitian Creole for our Haitian audience. Visit them at https://bbutterfly.org. • The relationship between theology and culture is a complex and multifaceted one, with scholars and practitioners offering differing perspectives on whether theology should transcend culture or be deeply embedded within it (Transcendence Vs the Immanence of God and theology). To address this question, it is essential to define theology and culture and explore their interplay in both historical and contemporary contexts.Theology, at its core, is the study of the divine, religious beliefs, and the nature of the divine being or beings. It encompasses doctrines, rituals, ethics, and interpretations of sacred texts within various religious traditions. Culture, on the other hand, refers to the shared beliefs, values, customs, and practices of a particular group of people, often shaped by factors such as history, geography, language, and social structures.Throughout history, theology and culture have been intertwined, influencing and shaping each other in profound ways. Religious beliefs and practices are often deeply embedded within cultural contexts, reflecting the values, norms, and traditions of a society. Conversely, theology has also played a role in shaping culture, providing frameworks for understanding the world, guiding ethical behavior, and fostering community cohesion. However, the question of whether theology should transcend culture raises important considerations regarding the universality of religious truth claims and the diversity of human experiences and perspectives. Proponents of the transcendence of theology argue that religious truths are universal and transcendent, applicable to all people regardless of cultural context. They posit that theology should provide timeless principles and moral guidance that are not bound by cultural limitations. On the other hand, advocates for the embeddedness of theology within culture emphasize the importance of contextualization and cultural relevance in religious practice and interpretation. They argue that theology must be understood and expressed within the cultural frameworks of particular communities, taking into account their unique histories, languages, and worldviews. This approach acknowledges the diversity of human experiences and the dynamic nature of culture, allowing theology to evolve and adapt to changing social contexts.Furthermore, the transcendence of theology over culture can lead to the imposition of dominant cultural norms and values onto marginalized communities, perpetuating systems of power and inequality. Embracing cultural diversity within theology fosters inclusivity, allowing for the voices and perspectives of marginalized groups to be heard and valued within religious discourse. In conclusion, the relationship between theology and culture is a dynamic and complex one, with both perspectives offering valuable insights into the nature of religious belief and practice. While some argue for the transcendence of theology over culture, emphasizing universal truths and principles, others advocate for the embeddedness of theology within culture, acknowledging the diversity of human experiences and the importance of cultural context. Ultimately, the challenge lies in finding a balance between these perspectives, recognizing the universality of religious truths while respecting the diversity of cultural expressions and interpretations.Written and Presented by Rev. • To: President Joe Biden, on your recent message on March 7th, 2024, commemorating the Holocaust.

Dear, Mr. President,Comparing the Holocaust to what happened on October 7th, 2023, when Hamas bombed parts of the Gaza, which Jews occupied, was a pseudo-appeal to association. Nevertheless, what happened to the Jews, must never happen to anyone.

Remembering the Holocaust should not just be about Jews, but also about the inhumanity of humans that would cause Hitler to create concentration camps to gas and torture millions of Jews as a way of racial cleansing to create a pure race that is Arian. Racism, colonialism, extremism, ethnic cleansing, and discrimination, still exist in the world today: From Russia's invasion of Ukraine to China's threats of war to re-control Taiwan. Similarly, Palestinians have had to deal with Israel's aggression and domination over the years, who have also objected and rejected the Palestinian state. To many Palestinians, Israel today has created a holocaust experience killing thousands in response to what Israel says is a response to Hamas' recent bombing. However, Israel's response has been magnanimous, as they brace to invade Raffah where many refugees and civilians On October 7, 2023, Hams bombed parts of the Israel-occupied section of #gaza in response to what many Palestinians feel justified about as they fight for independence and nationhood. Israel today is a far more powerful country, with friends such as the US, UK, Canada, and many other post-industrial nations. Mr. Biden to compare October 7, 2023, with the Holocaust, when millions of Palestinians today are under siege by Israel trying to root out Hamas terrorists, was inappropriate and a "question-begging epithet". I discuss this some more on The Neoliberal Round podcast and YouTube channel, plus explore the question of, "how can we reconcile "freedom of expression" and "speech" with "hate speech"? And, "can we legislate on hate and love"? Sincerely,Rev. Renaldo C. When attacked and cornered, the instinctive responses of fright, flight,or fight come to the fore. This fundamental survival mechanism, ingrained in both humans and animals, shapes the course of conflicts and wars.

On October 7th, 2023, the world witnessed a tragicescalation of violence as Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel, resulting in the loss of hundreds of Israeli lives. Hamas justified this action as resistance to occupation and years of provocations. In response, Israelretaliated with overwhelming force, resulting in the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions. However, the roots of the Israel-Palestine conflict run much deeper than this recent escalation.... • What's Trinidad? Caribbean Trinidad and Tobago, Trinibad Artiste shares his story, explaining this new genre of music from Trinidad. We met up while Shawa was walking his dog at the park in Germantown Philadelphia. We started a conversation that led to several discoveries and this 10-minute trailer episode of the series, "What's Your Story", part 9. We hope to sit down with him later to finish the episode where we plan to do a full hour of interview talking about his music and life and exploring this new music and playing some of his songs. This episode is a short episode with Shawa live and raw. He was passionate and interesting as he talked about Afro-Caribbean music and people. Shawa is also an Israelite Priest with the African Israelites. We did not delve too much into his faith or religion. We hope to explore this later on another episode. We added background music and sounds from Shawa's original music and videos to the episode which features Shawa himself.

Note: Please excuse the background sounds or noise as this take was done outdoors with limited control of the external noise. However, the disturbances are faint and should not interfere with the audio by the participants.

  • The question may arise, as it relates to the course and what we are contending for, why are we focussed on Haiti? Every time I teach the course the focus is different, yet the conclusions are almost identical. This semester focuses on Haiti, as a case study when studying the Caribbean position in the world today and the currents that have led to its invention as we contend for a reinvented Caribbean in the 21st century. The Lecture begins by analyzing the course and why we are focussing on Haiti by highlighting the idea behind the textbook which is a case study about Jamaica speaking about the Caribbean and global south experience in a post-colonial post-independent world. The Professor uses this to support the ways we are approaching the course. Much like the film Life and Debt a documentary film about Jamaica's socio-political-economic history based on a book about Antigua entitled "A Small Place". The Professor makes the point how each Caribbean experience from colonization to independence and to now has followed similar paths in relation to their position in the world and the international strategies that have come to formulate the Caribbean as an invention.Rev. Renaldo surveys Caribbean economic history drawing on several theorists from the Caribbean and the post-colonial such as Ramesh Ramsarwan, Rex Nettleford, Nelson and Nelson, C.L. R. James, Walter Rodney, and his own work, Neoliberalism book 1. The Lecture also featured a special guest Lecturer, Fr. Hyvenson Josephs, a Haitian American originally from Haiti who is an episcopal Priest living in Florida. He provided the latest update on Haiti indicating that Haitians are demanding a Haitian-led solution that follows the constitution of Haiti. However, Dr. Henry is exiled but remains as the Installed PM by the foreign gang of four - US, Germany, France, and Canada. Further, it was revealed that Canada is training a small group of Jamaican military to go to Haiti to help with security. The Lecture was powerful and ended with Rev. Renaldo McKenzie reviewing an article for the Jamaica Gleaner on the importance of exploring Attitudes Toward Afro-Caribbean Beliefs and Traditions and problematizing the immigration issue. • We did a unique study, polling black and brown people's support for Trump or Biden in New York City, particularly Harlem, Manhattan to ascertain how the black and brown population would vote if the elections were called today. This is part 2 of a series in response to a video clip on Twitter showing how blacks in Chicago are supporting Trump. We at The NeoLiberal Round decided to conduct a study via the podcast where we ask black and brown people at random who they are voting for and whether they are Republicans or Democrats and also their socio-economic status (financially stable or not), plus other demographical questions such as age, heritage - Caribbean, Latin America or African American with little to no connections to any foreign heritage, etc. The interviews comprised over 25 individuals from various age groups and political affiliations. We aired the interviews of the individuals who agreed to be interviewed on the show for the broadcast. The episode also contains an in-depth analysis of the interviews with the respondents. It wraps up at the end with a summary of the findings and the interviews which included a comparison of Philly black voters against NYC Black Voters. The findings will be published in The NeoLiberal Journals and The NeoLiberal Post at The NeoLiberal CorporationThe episode is a compilation of the various video interviews we conducted between March 10th and March 30th in NYC on location at 125th and Morningside and other locations in Harlem. The episode starts with a clip excerpt of the respondents and the host on several takes mashed together for a sensational and epic blend which then segways into the introduction by the Host of the individual short interviews. This episode has over 10 respondents on short clips between 28 seconds and 4 minutes. Summary Points:1. Many people who are Democrats say that they are voting for Trump, but the Republicans we spoke to indicated that they are voting for or supporting Biden.2. Four/Five years ago, when Trump ran against Biden, many if not most New Yorkers in NYC, who may have been supporting or thinking about voting for Trump, would not bravely share or discuss this with anyone; for their safety and sanity. Today, that is not the case, as is evident in the episode, since many publicly, boldly, and bravely discussed some in groups with other onlookers around and others spoke so loudly as if they were delivering a gospel message at an outdoor church service. How does the Support differ?3. College-educated, Versus the non-college4. Financially stable Vis-a-vis those struggling economically and getting by on odd jobs or low wages5. Caribbean/West Indians6. Latin and Hispanic Americans6. Abortion, Conservative Values7. White Americans who are politically entrenched8. Younger people versus Older peoples9. Verbalizing support versus actually going out to vote on election day. This episode was created, written, filmed, edited, and produced by Renaldo McKenzie, the President of The NeoLiberal Corporation, Doctoral Candidate at Georgetown Univ, and Author of Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance. The NeoLiberal Round Podcast & Youtube Channel are brought to you by The NeoLiberal Corporation/Renaldo McKenzie, serving the world today to solve tomorrow's challenges by making popular what was the monopoly. • This is the second part of a 3-hour Lecture, featuring Fr. Hyvenson Josephs updating the Caribbean Thought class at Jamaica Theological Seminary regarding the latest in #haiti as we explore Post-Independent #caribbean today and the challenge for #democracy: We learned that:1. The gangs have taken over the country including the National Library and Museum stealing art pieces worth millions. 2. Dr. Ariel Henry is still exiled in #puertorico but refuses to resign until his idea for a presidential college is implemented, as the #haitian constitution is rebuffed by the actions of a foreign core group pulling Haiti's strings.3. Haitians continue to call for a #haitian-led solution 4. while #canada, one of the core group of post-industrial countries that controls Haiti trains #jamaican military to go to #haiti ignoring #caricom's charter promoting Caribbean Unity and Independence as it safeguards Caribbean Sovereignty.5. The gangs feel justified in their takeover highlighting the external gangs that control Haiti today which is unconstitutional. • In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, the traditional framework for children's psycho-social development is being eroded. The slow, deliberate exposure to stimuli that once characterized childhood has been replaced by a world where social media reigns supreme, parental guidance is often lacking, and tolerance for potentially harmful behaviors such as marijuana use is on the rise.Gone are the days when children could navigate the complexities of social interaction at their own pace, guided by parental wisdom and faith-based values. Instead, they find themselves thrust into an environment where reality TV and pop culture glorify superficiality over substance, leaving them ill-equipped to engage meaningfully with others. The consequences of this societal shift are dire. We are witnessing a disturbing uptick in senseless killings, suicides, and mental health crises among our youngest citizens. The correlation between these tragedies and the increasing prevalence of drug use, particularly marijuana, cannot be ignored. As the age at which children are exposed to these substances continues to plummet, so too does their likelihood of experiencing long-term effects on brain development, personality, and mental well-being.... • Recently, I published an article in The NeoLiberal Journals exploring the immigration problem concerning the context of a competitive world where the few continue their dominance and advantages at the expense of post-industrial nations still navigating their new independence which has left them dependent and even poorer or more vulnerable. This episode presents the article and provides some more commentary on the issue delving into the realities that many pundits and analysts have not included when addressing the immigration crisis, especially at the border today which continues to be a political issue that has helped to thwart any real solution to the problem. The article is available for reading in #theneoliberalcorporation journals at https://theneoliberal.com/the-neoliberal-journals at theneoliberal.com.The article was written by Renaldo McKenzie, author of Neoliberalism books 1 and 2 an Adjunct Professor at Jamaica Theological Seminary, Doctoral Candidate and a Faculty Student Advisor at Georgetown University Temple University, and a graduate University of Penn.
