Workplace stress, resilience, psychological safety… These are all buzzwords that have gained increasing attention in recent years. And rightly so. We spend a huge proportion of our time at the workplace, so it’s critical that we do our best to keep stress to a minimum.
But who is actually responsible for this? Our guest on the podcast this week says the burden of responsibility is shared, and proposes meditation as a solution that can have a huge impact on stress, not just from within the workplace, but also the stresses that naturally make their way into the workplace from “outside.”
Brett Jarman is a Vedic Meditation teacher, and has practised the technique every day, without exception, for more than 33 years. (We, Jan and Michelle, have also been practising the technique for the same period of time).
As a business consultant, mentor, and business mastermind group facilitator, Brett’s also well versed in the impacts of stress in the workplace.
He is also Jan’s husband 🙂, and is very active behind the scenes in our business, so is very familiar with the world of leaders and managers.

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has been our favourite personality profiling tool since we first became accredited facilitators more than 20 years ago.
Other profiling tools have come and gone as ‘flavour of the month’ over the years, many of which are simplified versions of the MBTI, but the MBTI itself is the tool we are most often asked to use, and with very good reason,
The wisdom behind it is timeless and the applications endless, and no matter how many times we deliver our MBTI workshops, they never fail to deliver life-changing insights to course participants.
But how many organisations or participants get value from their MBTI profiles on an ongoing basis? How many people or teams review their profile regularly for insights as their career or organisation progresses?
Most people give their MBTI profile consideration based on their circumstances at the time they took their test, but as circumstances change, e.g. a promotion happens, new team members arrive, the demands on the team change, etc, they might only give a fleeting thought to their MBTI profile (if at all), and how that might be relevant to the change,
In this episode, we explore ways in which you can squeeze more value out of your team’s MBTI profiles in the months and years after first having the profiles done. With very little effort, and with big rewards, the MBTI can be the ‘gift that keeps on giving’ to you and your team.

For many years now, we’ve been using the Change Curve model, created by John Fisher, a constructivist, psychologist, and coach. It’s a powerful tool for helping people navigate the different stages of organisational change.
We were thrilled to be able to speak with John directly on the podcast and to discuss the application of the Change Curve in leadership programs, the emotional journey individuals go through during change, and strategies for effective change management.

Our focus for this year for our content is going to be small and medium sized organisations (SMEs), specifically, how to create high-performing teams. We're also creating programs that cater for SMEs. Watch this space for details...
There is a very different dynamic for small and medium businesses than there is with larger organisations, particularly when the owner is the leader of the business. Often these owners are what we would call "accidental leaders," meaning they didn't specifically set out to become a people leader as such, but it's come about as a natural consequence of the success of their business.
They can, of course, still be outstanding leaders, but can sometimes need a bit of extra help, particularly when it comes to creating their own leadership team, and developing a culture that doesn't revolve around the owner making all the decisions.

In coaching or workshops, we often hear managers say, "Yes, but I'm so busy, surely I can't push any more work down on to the people that report to me." Rarely do people say no, so managers shouldn’t use that as an excuse.
