To finish off the Season we wanted to say a huge thank you to all those who helped make the series what it was, all our fantastic sponsors, our fantastic production team at Monsterdon, especially Rob Montandon. Not to mention all of our incredible guests as well of course! We covered such an incredible range of topics, projects, ideas and innovations during the season that we thought it only proper to do a very quick synopsis / summery of all the episodes we had covered so people can find out a bit more about what they may have missed, or perhaps that they didn't even know they're interested in!!So once again, an enormous thank you to everyone involved with this fantastic project and I look forward to seeing how things progress, what collaborations continue and grow, and how we might be able to revisit some of the ideas and projects in the future too. At the moment we have no plans for another series due to other growing commitments surrounding all the things discussed in this series, many with serious applications for further helping protect and enhance our natural environment and tackle the climate crisis. If you haven't already please like and subscribe, to support the channel to let us know you have enjoyed it, and it's the best way to let us know too, that you'd like to see more. #climatetech #sustainability #farming #food #climate #climatecrisis #podcast #innovation #renewables #architecture #landscape #landscapearchitecture #horticulture #netzero #technology

In this episode, we are joined by Ben Harrison, Housing Sustainability Development Officer for Southend-On-Sea Council. Our second youngest guest and who is one of the key players in the award-winning retrofit home project we look at this episode. In this episode, we explore a former council house, now re-purchased by Southend-On-Sea Council. This is one of a number of homes being modernized and retrofitted to provide a more comfortable place to live, and that has a key role in helping reduce the cost of living for residents, and in decarbonising the council's housing stock. What is interesting about this house, is that this house has a much wider range of measures, and is subject to intense monitoring to measure the impact of the various technologies and solutions installed, than the other properties up for renewal. It's a pilot house to see what works, and what doesn't, see how technologies perform, how the house performs as a whole, and the next stage is to even have a family living in the property, to see how they get on with the new technologies. Additionally, the house is included in the Catchment to Coast project, part of a wider government program looking at flood risk and water resilience, which also led to a wide range of water-saving technologies also being introduced into the properties, as well as the design of exterior spaces to help manage rainwater in new and innovative ways during storm events. This is a fantastic project and one of national importance to help inform and show how we might be able to transition not just public housing, but also private properties, to bring the cost of living down, whilst also meeting our climate objectives, tackling water scarcity and reducing flooding.Guest:Ben Harrisonhttps://www.southend.gov.uk/news/article/2952/southend-on-sea-city-council-shortlisted-for-four-essex-housing-awardsBe sure to check out the podcast on all usual podcast platforms, and on social media.A huge thank you to all those who helped make this project happen, with special thanks to:Southend-On-Sea CouncilCatchment to Coast: https://engageenvironmentagency.uk.engagementhq.com/sou019-catchment-to-coastWater Offsets: https://www.wateroffsets.co.uk/South Essex Homes: https://southessexhomes.co.uk/ Morgan Sindall Property Services: https://morgansindallpropertyservices.com/Hydrorock: https://www.hydrorock.com/ Southend-On-Sea Parks TeamEurovia: https://www.eurovia.co.uk/ A big shout-out to those who have made this series possible!Sponsored by:Water Offsets: https://www.wateroffsets.co.uk/ Vectorworks: https://www.vectorworks.net/en-GB/2023Our kind supporters:The Birmingham Botanical Gardens: https://lnkd.in/gyFwj5b8 and,Gillian Goodson Designs: https://lnkd.in/gDQwz-AsFinally, this episode is powered by:ND Landscape Architects Ltd : https://ndla.co.uk/ and,Monsterdon LTD: https://monsterdon.com/@vectorworks @WaterOffsets @GardensAndDriveways @thebirminghambotanicalgard4950 @ndlandscapearchitectsltd.8472 @monsterdonltd @gilliangoodsondesigns900 #Councilhouse #biodiversity #sustainability #nature #house #podcast #environment #retrofit #climatecrisis #retrofitting #architecture #netzero #watersecurity #water #climatechange #housingcrisis #costofliving #climatechange #moneysavingtips #ecofriendly #interiordesign #energy #savetheplanet #lowcarbon #carbonneutral #sustainableliving #homeappliances #science #climateresilience #landscape #climateaction #ideas #innovation #landscapearchitecture #carbonfootprint #climate #climatetech

In this episode, we are joined by excellent Ted Green our only returning guest of the series who has just authored a new book, Treetime. The book explores Teds lifelong adventure with trees and tree folk. Since earliest childhood, and with Windsor Great Park as his playground, Ted has been asking questions about nature and our environment. Treetime is a collection of tales from over 80 years spent observing, questioning and caring for the natural world and all its wildlife, especially fungi, trees and birds.Ted is one of the most influential tree experts I have ever met, and his influence extends far beyond I think even he realises sometimes. This book is so important for anyone interested in the environmental world, especially those with an interest in trees, landscapes, ecology, carbon, soils, fungi, farming, conservation and so many other areas too. One very interesting thing with this book is its written the same way that Ted talks, which means you are constantly taken on stories and journeys throughout the book, but also his thoughts in interesting studies and research ideas, or theories on various matters. Giving the book a really rich value in helping guide future Phd studies and inform us of areas we need to know much more about.I cannot recommend the book enough and its really a vital learning tool for anyone interested in the environment. All proceeds also go to support the Arboricultural Association and you can find the book on their website here: https://www.trees.org.uk/Book-Shop/Products/Treetime-Ted-Green Guest:Ted Greenhttps://www.alismty.com/Be sure to check out the podcast on all usual podcast platforms, and on social media.A big shout-out to those who have made this series possible!Sponsored by:Water Offsets: https://www.wateroffsets.co.uk/ Vectorworks: https://www.vectorworks.net/en-GB/2023Our kind supporters:The Birmingham Botanical Gardens: https://lnkd.in/gyFwj5b8 and,Gillian Goodson Designs: https://lnkd.in/gDQwz-AsFinally, this episode is powered by:ND Landscape Architects Ltd : https://ndla.co.uk/ and,Monsterdon LTD: https://monsterdon.com/@vectorworks @WaterOffsets @GardensAndDriveways @thebirminghambotanicalgard4950 @ndlandscapearchitectsltd.8472 @monsterdonltd @gilliangoodsondesigns900 #Tree #biodiversity #sustainability #nature #algae #podcast #environment #Trees #climatecrisis #treestory #rewilding #netzero #conservation #trees #conservationeducation #farming #regenerativefarming #climatechange #woodland #ecofriendly #forestry #arborist #savetheplanet #wood #forest #forestry #farming #science #scientist #landscape #climateaction #ideas #innovation #landscapearchitecture #carbonfootprint #climate #climatechange

In this episode, we are joined by the incredible Garden Designer and Landscape Architect Marian Boswell. We talk about her fantastic new book, as well as her approach to the design of gardens. Marian has been playing a key role in developing sustainable practices for garden designs and landscape architects and has been championing sharing these ideas and her knowledge with others. A key theme that came up throughout the episode was that you don't need to work your socks off for a sustainable garden, many sustainable practices can in fact save you lots of time, money, and carbon, all whilst helping our garden critters too. Alongside this, we talk about various challenges associated with garden design and how when we think of sustainability, its easy to focus on biodiversity or carbon, and actually we also need to factor in the importance of building communities as part of a sustainability strategy too. S1E12: The Ethos of Eden - David Harland
If you’re into the environment, then you must’ve heard of the Eden Project! I remember it very fondly as I visited it with school, on holiday with my family as a child, and then again with university before finally being able to film this episode there. It’s really played a key role in my understanding and appreciation for the natural world and showcases it in an incredibly pioneering way. In this episode we have a discussion with David regarding the Ethos of Eden, why it was set up, its values, and what it is doing now to showcase solutions to the challenges of the future, but also the vital role the natural world can play in engaging people, imaginations and supporting the economy and healthcare systems.
