With the band returning Down Under for a national run with pop-punk staples The Wonder Years, we grabbed time with Joyce Manor frontman and all-around affable guy Barry Johnson for this week’s guest episode.
Barry chats about whether Joyce is a “real emo” band, playing shows on late-night TV shows, hitting a confident stride in their 15-year career, their whirlwind anniversary tour celebrating 2014’s stellar ‘Never Hungover Again,’ and what it’s like to rip through a "perfect 45-minute set."

We were fortunate to grab some time with Spencer Chamberlain, vocalist of Floridian posthardcore giants Underoath and crooner for alt-indie outfit slo/tide.
Underoath’s tenth album, The Place After This One (out this week through MNRK Heavy), finds the quintet at the dawn of a new era, one forged in the search for creative freedom and a firm rejection of expectation.
Spencer chats with us about finding the right producer to realise the group’s collective vision, the tension between the risk of new music and familiar fan-favourite records, and how the last five years have changed his lyrical outlook for better and worse.

Joining the show this week is none other than Travis Stever, resident shredder for esteemed prog-rockers Coheed and Cambria along with post-hardcore supergroup L.S. Dunes.
Travis chats about Coheed’s career longevity, how the band’s latest record–the expansive ‘Vaxis Act III: The Father of Make Believe’–represents a sonic “victory” for the quartet, working with producers like Zakk Cervini and Will Yip, the joy of listening to his “Dental Chair Vision Quest” roadtrip playlist, and the “endless flow” of creative chemistry among his brothers in L.S. Dunes.

New week, new tracks, and we’re rounding them all up! Owen & Paige chat about curious TikTok trends before diving headfirst into some classic rock from Thornlie, Japanese-Korean metalcore, proggy death metal, and what several voices on the Internet have rather dubiously decided to label as “emo” (hint: it isn’t). Want new music? Well, look no further. LFGGG!!

After returning from a huge UK run supporting pop-punkers Neck Deep on some their biggest ever shows to date, Ryan digs in to the band’s progression on last year’s exceptional ‘All You Embrace’ LP, playing floor shows versus arena stages, the importance of melody, and how best to fight jetlag.

Stoked to have Ned Russin of Glitterer and Title Fight on the pod this week as part of the 2025 lineup for New Bloom Fest alongside Basement, Balance & Composure, DRAIN, One Step Closer, and Sweet Pill.
Dialing in from Peru in the middle of a Latin America tour run (hence the lack of reliable video bandwidth), Ned talks about the intentionality behind the group’s latest LP, ‘Rationale,’ how touring has shaped his entire adult life, the seductive trap of solipsism, and cultivating a hardcore mindset.

For Jack Bergin, the last few years have brought one realisation into sharp relief: the only way out is through. With their final tour wrapping up, the frontman for Naarm/Melbourne heavy hitters Void Of Vision joins the show to bring this chapter to a bittersweet close.
We chat about Jack’s health struggles and his determined journey of self-discovery, the moment he decided that VOV needed to take The Big Sleep, wrestling with ideas of mortality, thematic resonance and legacy, the unrealised potential of last year’s phenomenal ‘What I’ll Leave Behind’ LP, his enduring love for heavy music, and the new beginnings afforded him as the host of Triple J’s Core program.

Coming back to what feels like their second home, Californian chillers DRAIN are ready to rip once again as part of the gnarly 2025 lineup for New Bloom Fest alongside Basement, Balance & Composure, One Step Closer, Glitterer, and Sweet Pill.
All-round nice bloke Sammy Ciaramitaro drops in to the show to give us the low down on his community’s resolve in the face of natural disasters, the band’s sonic progression across records, the low-end rumblings of their work-in-progress third LP, and why pool noodles in the pit are both a blessing and a (California) curse.

This week we’re joined from the road by Hands Like Houses frontman Josh Raven as the group crosses the country on select regional dates with heavy icons The Butterfly Effect.
Josh opens up about his initial trepidation at joining an already established band, after years spent at the helm of Perth rockers The Faim, along with the creative freedom and boundary pushing sessions that led to ‘ATMOSPHERICS’: the group’s ambitious 16-track double album, featuring previously released tracks from four distinct EPs (out now through Civilians).
We chat about being your own worst critic, unlocking new vocal talents, overcoming performance anxiety, and finally getting to the bottom of what’s up with chemtrails.
