  • How was Ben Lee’s second gig as support for Sonic Youth?!
Ben Lee’s band Noise Addict were loved by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and the Beastie Boys Mike D and toured with Sebadoh when he was only 16 years old! How the heck did all that happen?
Why did he decide to go solo so soon after finding huge success with Noise Addict? What do Mike D and Money Mark have to do with Ben working with T-Bone Burnett and how did that song end up on the end credits of the film Best Men?

He’s recorded with Evan Dando and Mandy Moore, teamed up with Ben Folds and Ben Kweller to form The Bens and won ARIA Single Of The Year for his song Catch My Disease, but how did the idea for that song start.
How did Ben’s song “How to Survive a Broken Heart" become integral to a scene in the Farrelly Brothers classic film There’s Something About Mary? And how happy was Ben to discover what music sync is?

His most recent album I’m Fun was released through Warner Music in June 2022 and to be honest, he is fun! Listen to this episode with Ben Lee and see for yourself.

  • So here we are kicking off season 4 with Dave Rowntree talking music, politics, missions to mars, Mo Farah, Bros, computer programming and much more.

When you’re already part of one of the biggest bands in the UK, launching a successful solo career can be daunting, as Dave tells us, but listening to his first solo record he seems to have found his groove. Join us as we ask Dave what took him so long to record his first solo album, what inspired the songs and how he managed to record his album during the lockdowns of covid (remember them?).

We find out how he moved into composing for film and TV, how much he loves collaborating with other musicians and where his ideas come from. Did you know that Dave converted images into audio as part of the music for the BBC TV show The Capture? Now you’ll have to watch the show to see if you can work it out! Find out how he feels about writing music for other people versus writing music with his Blur bandmates.

  • Peter Noone's career started as Stanley Fairclough in Britain’s biggest soap opera: Coronation Street. Peter was 15 when he became the lead singer of Herman’s Hermits and only 16 when “I’m Into Something Good” reached no.1 in the UK chart. Six months later, they reached the top of the US charts with "Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” but what was it like to grace the cover of every magazine and deal with huge fame in the 1960’s?
Hear how the perception of fans changed over time including the development of groupies! And what it was like to be the “clean cut” band versus the perception of the Rolling Stones. What was it like to tour the US as part of the Brit Invasion, with police escorts and thousands of screaming fans everywhere they went?
How did Peter get involved in music and acting? And what did his school friends think of him being in Coronation Street?
What happened when Peter met Cream’s Ginger Baker in a casino and who saved him from himself?
And this is just the first half of our conversation with Peter. Make sure you listen to next week's episode to hear even more of Peter Noone’s journey in music.
Stay tuned for the music sync session as we listen to music from our audience, hoping to have their music used in the indie feature documentary film "The Boys of 742." Hear what our filmmakers and our expert music & film panel think will sync with the film's visuals.

  • Dr Jess Duckworth, aka The Piano Doctor, composes delicate, melodic, reflective piano music that resonated across the world during the covid pandemic and ever since, propelling her album to the top of the UK Classical Charts and securing her a top 20 UK album in early 2022.
As a medical doctor, Jess was at the frontline of the UK covid pandemic, but then, on her way home after long, long shifts in hospital she would sit at the piano and play one of her beautiful compositions for the patients who could not have visitors and the medics and staff who could barely rest.
Hear Jess talk about this time in the world and how it inspired her to compose more beautifully emotive songs for her forthcoming album, with songs about new beginnings, not just coming out of the pandemic, but in many areas of life, including the effect of her latest new medical role and the babies she’ll be bringing into the world!
Dr Jess Duckworth is a hugely talented composer and pianist and a huge inspiration, no wonder our panel fell head over heels for her, and we are sure you will too. Be sure to check out Dr Jess Duckworth's highly emotive music on your favorite music provider.

  • Find out how highly Josh rates landing a music sync and how much benefit this can bring to any musician, whatever stage of their career, but also how it is important to be selective.
Lucky Man Management & Brushfire signing ALO had their song Strange Days synced in Smallville. As Josh says “…the right piece of music in the right piece of content… can be career changing”. Hear how Jack Johnson’s music was used in the Curious George movie (and soundtrack) and how it helped to propel Jack to even greater success.
Why is Josh is so selective about who he signs to the Brushfire roster? How does Jack Johnson remain fresh sounding on every record he releases?
Jack Johnson’s eighth studio album “Meet The Moonlight” is out now and he is on tour across the US, Australia & NZ in 2022. Hear how much Jack Johnson supports local charities at all of his shows and how focussed Jack and his family are on environmental change for good.
Plus don’t miss Josh revealing how his grandmother created "the locomotion" dance, what it was like meeting Lou Reed when he was 8 years old and why he feels so lucky.
Stay tuned for the sync session as we listen to music submissions for a scene in indie filmmaker Kevin Sharpley’s upcoming feature film “Deadly Night Out”. You’ll hear music from Tim Qualls, Soulah the Legend and Nomae.
