  • For a guy who has won at every level, success for Danny Green began with a solid foundation from a young age. Growing up with a supportive dad and equally competitive brother, he progressed in his game by first loving to play, then dedicating himself to maximize his abilities. Winning championships in high school in New York, then at the University of North Carolina for Roy Williams and on to NBA titles for the Spurs, Raptors and Lakers, winning for Danny was equal parts ability, commitment and situation.

As Drew sees in Danny, the winning formula is in Danny's approach as a player with his unique talents, and his approach as a teammate. Thanks to quality habits in training, work ethic and the ability to produce, players like Danny can always find their way to good opportunities. As he tells us through the ups and downs that will happen, Danny's confidence and belief in himself enabled him push through. His career now stands as a great example of continuing to work towards your dreams, and by way of drive, consistency and those good habits, he's continued to achieve great things.

  • When Celeste and Kelsi teamed up, they recognized their combined talents, drive and connections could be a game changer. Seeing an opportunity to empower women in an unempowered, male driven industry…Viper was born. Working with everyone from Beyonce and Drake to Apple and Google, these two became the gatekeepers to the biggest and most high profile events on the planet.

By demonstrating the value of utilizing patience, combined with valuing personal connections, they were able to succeed. On the strength of reputation and organic growth, the mission was longevity in the game. • Beyond their friendship, Drew and John Jenkins go back to Drew’s early days enter the game as a trainer and finding an equally driven pupil. John’s love for the game, combined with talent took him far as player, standing out at Vanderbilt and drafted in 2012 by the Atlanta Hawks. He made a name for himself as an elite shooter and efficient scorer. What he found out was that in between space of one level to the next is the challenge in itself.

No stranger to work, John’s “no days off” approach speaks to dedication, desire and staying locked in. What Drew learned about John over the years was the need to, at times, unlock and find an outlet aside from the game. By caring so much, it’s vital to be able to enjoy the results. As John has grown as both a player and person, Drew has been at the forefront in his development personally and professionally. With years in the game, John’s desire still burns strong, but as he tells us it’s preparing for that next chapter that is the challenge not only for himself, but what all players need to be ready for.

  • There’s a lot to learn from Alex Bazzell’s work ethic, approach to his teaching and the methods behind his messaging. For a guy who came up in the game playing college at UMKC and on to overseas ball, he had to find where he fit in the emerging world of pro trainers. As he recognized, the game was becoming individualized and he sought out Drew’s guidance in entering the space.

For what he found, working through adversity means zero excuses and a mindset progression of facing the truth. In all of his clients from Kyrie Irving to Carmelo Anthony, it was his special relationship with Kobe Bryant the really unlocked his greatest perspective. By discovering the dynamic of avoiding pigeon holes and opening up your creative mind, it enabled him to illustrate the path to rethinking the definition of yourself. This has led to great collaboration with players, following a plan and getting them to the highest level of performance, function and success.

  • The motivator’s motivator, Ben Newman’s life work has revolved around dedication, discipline and accountability. In his “uncommon workout” with no days off, Ben identifies the reward as staying true to the goals we set for ourselves. By answering to the person we see in the mirror, his approach is finding challenges - large or small -  and pushing through.

Drew’s friendship with Ben is a connection over the common bond of self accountability and measuring victories in the standards we hold ourselves to. Ben’s podcast, “The Burn” voices Ben’s philosophy and brings his message to life. That message is empowerment to think differently, and identify the “why” that drives us to push to our goals.

It’s a conversation about success and desire. The beauty is in the consistency. And here’s a hint: it starts with an early morning.

  • A common thread for those willing to dedicate themselves to their craft is the ability to grind. This means they will welcome the sacrifices, work with little praise or reward, and go far beyond where many would stop. Ultimately, they are seeking to find something within themselves to align with a greater purpose. This “beautiful struggle” is what Tim Martin built his career and his platform off of.

Drew sits down with Tim to track on his career, from modest beginnings, where he was constantly moving and largely overlooked. In the process, he found truth. Tim’s ability to understand other walks of life and cultures, has enabled him to connect to players from all backgrounds. In addition to his knowledge of the game, his ability to communicate is his gift, relaying a message players can retain and build off of. And to hear Tim detail it, his key to success is something we can all take notes from.

  • Something that is a common thread for basketball junkies is an unconditional love for the game. Mike Procopio turned his love of the game into a career. His passion for basketball enabled him to learn, establish a philosophy and found a purpose as a coach. Thanks to his upbringing in Boston, his approach as truth teller became his calling card. For some, it’s blunt and it’s brash, but great players love to be pushed knowing that it makes them that much better.

While it might be old school, the proof is in Mike’s long list of success stories. From greats like Kobe Bryant to the grinders just trying to find life as pro, his no nonsense style led to greatness. Still, pushing players can backfire in situations where it goes too far. As Drew points out to Mike, the game has definitely changed in terms of coaching styles, but sometimes it’s needed to get a player’s best.

A multi-dimensional guard, who in two NBA seasons, Tyrese has established his identity as a foundational player who can create for himself and others, and flat-out wants to win. But for a kid who was pretty much slept on coming up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, he’s continued to flourish at every level.

In his time with Tyrese, Drew has taken the “hate me know, thank me later” approach a long way. As he tells us, he was drawn to Tyrese’s hunger to be push, drive for success and his mentality. A common throughline for all players to draw from a player like Tyrese, is the desire to ask questions and constantly look for ways to get better. From there, the success, the accolades and most importantly, the wins will come.

  • No two basketball players are the same. Neither are their journeys. David Nurse’s path led him to locations he’d never seen, and situations he’d never expected. Wherever he landed, he learned along the way. He then put that experience to work. His approach is that if a chapter ends, not only does another door open, it’s actually several. While he played and coached at all levels of the game, it has led him to another place in life of perspective and impact.

Beyond his time as a player, and his work with the Brookly Nets and players like Jeremy Lin, David really locked in on the ability to pivot, no matter the circumstances. As Drew sees it, being “pot committed” will prove that you’ll ensure you reach goals you imagine for yourself. This perspective, mainly gained through experience, enables you to own the moment and thrive in whatever role you are in. Success, as you define it, can be determined by your own strengths and standards.

  • A great piece of advice for all players is to use the game of basketball, not to let the game use you. For Drew, his story was made in large part by the coaches who made the game possible for him. Two of those key figures were, Coach Woods and Coach Vernon, going way back to grade school in St. Louis. On the strength of Drew's elite level work ethic, these two coaches cultivated his drive, and instilled in him the right way to play.

By putting players in environments to get better, they will do exactly that. This includes taking your L’s. Which also means learning from those losses. And while they may not appreciate it in the moment, as Drew details, those lessons pay off years down the road. It's those coaches that work far beyond X’s and O’s, but rather serve as mentors, father figures and leaders, who should stand up and applaud.

  • For all great players, it is the pursuit that defines them not only as athletes but as players. For Drew at Webster Gross High School it was the people that we haven’t heard of that got him to where is today. One key individual, Dr. Jon Clark was someone that empowered Drew and others to follow their dreams…as long as the work ethic, drive and dedication were there.

Dr. Clark himself, is a remarkable story, not only for his work with student athletes, but as a survivor in life. His connection with Drew is far beyond the game of basketball. They share the common thread of competitors, but their bond is that of teachers, leaders and motivators. And Dr. Clark is not only a key figure in academics, but an inspirational example for us all to draw from.

  • To kick things off on Unseen Hours, Drew went back to the beginning, sitting down with the man who helped him harness his drive for a lifetime in the game. For all players that want to work up to another level, the required drive and dedication is the starting point to succeed. At Webster Groves High School, Coach Jay Blossom had seen players of all ability levels in his program.

In Drew, Coach Blossom found a hungry, committed player that was willing to put in the hours and reps needed get better. That no limits, no shortcuts approach is relatable for all players of a high caliber. Still, for all of those that want to be great, the necessary attention to detail and capacity to improve on weaknesses demands a relentless will to push beyond regular expectations.

With Coach Blossom, Drew identifies the parallel traits that drove a young kid to build on a passion, to where all players can draw on their own experiences. For coaches, seeing players with that hunger is a welcome sight, it’s then their job to channel that desire en route to guiding them to success.
