Happy 300th episode! Most veterinarians have perfectionist tendencies and our profession encourages it because we need to adhere to high standards. Perfectionism is sometimes healthy because it can lead to motivation and drive, but taken to extremes will lead to many unhealthy results. Perfectionism can be a symptom of anxiety, and anxiety can lead to more perfectionism. This drive towards perfection can lead to procrastination and lack of motivation. Internal pressures such as the desire to avoid failure, criticism, or judgement will turn toxic if we don't work to change those internal pressures. Perfectionism may lead to depression and even suicide if we do not learn to understand why we feel the need to be perfect. Allowing for imperfection, even in small ways, will open up possibilties and make life more fulfilling. Thanks for listening to episode 300!

Can you dream your way to success? I think you can. Dreaming sounds like fantasy, but every big accomplishment in your life started as an impossible dream. As life becomes hard, it tends to beat the dreams out of us and we forget how to use dreams to create new goals. When we feel stuck in life, we have thoughts that there is no other way, but in reality we are never truly stuck. We always have choices. Impossible can be overcome by dreaming and then taking time and action to work towards a dream. You can accomplish anything with small steps and coaching yourself to do better and get better.

Today is my birthday and it is a great day to talk about setting new goals, taking care of yourself, and self-love. We don't always think of self-acceptance as part of the pathway to success. Accepting and loving who you are will allow you to control your negative thought "lies" that your brain tells you and get to work on building the life that you desire. Take some time to learn who you are, what you like, what you want, and where you want to go in your life. Dreaming is a great place to start. Practicing self-care insures that you have the capacity to do anything. Accept yourself, love yourself, and keep moving.
