The warmer weather can make things tricky with an increase in events, travel and an effort to get out and enjoy the great weather. It can be hard to find a balance between having your little one sleep at home versus having them sleep anywhere. In addition, some babies may seem to sleep longer in the stroller, then they do in their crib at home. So surely napping on the go is the way to spend the summer, right? While it might be tough, and at times frustrating, to give up a longer length of sleep, there are good reasons to consider working towards the majority of naps taking place in a stationary crib, regardless of their length.
In this episode Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn shares 3 things to consider about napping on the go and how helping your baby to learn to extend their sleep independently is an important skill that will support quality sleep habits for years to come.

Have you ever wondered why climbing into bed and under the covers feels so good? Regardless of whether you like to sleep with just a light sheet or prefer the heaviness of a weighted blanket, there’s something about being covered up as you try and fall sleep that most people can’t do without. There are physiological and behavioral reasons why sheets and blankets help you sleep, and essentially, all the science behind sleeping while covered with a sheet or blanket supports the importance of creating a solid sleep environment. While we may not be able to clearly say that sleeping with blankets improves your general health, they will certainly improve your sleep. And since quality sleep is strongly associated with overall health and wellness, let’s just say we should all take a minute to appreciate what our bedding does for us! Keep reading for a closer look at how science plays a role in your body’s need to be covered at night for a solid night’s rest.
In this episode Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn explains how the more you know about getting a good night’s rest, the greater chance you’ll have of getting the sleep you need. Creating an ideal sleep environment starts with auditing your bedroom, and this absolutely includes the type of sheets and blankets you’re using.

Kids who never learned strong sleep skills as babies and toddlers are still struggling with sleep. In other cases, kids who were great sleepers can suddenly be faced with sleep issues too. What’s interesting though, is that even though many adults struggle with sleep, parents can be quick to assume that their child could actually ‘just go to sleep’ and not have the sleep problems they're having. In reality, that’s hardly ever the case. If your child has been struggling for more than a week, then they likely need some assistance in finding their way back to better sleep.
In this episode Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn explains the two big issues that make it hard for kids to fall asleep.

"Why is my perfect sleeper all of a sudden waking up and not going back to sleep?" Sound familiar? Sleep Regressions are unavoidable for our babies. Teething, illness, travel, even developmental milestones, unfortunately can disrupt sleep. It’s easy to go to the "Get Through the Night" mode and suddenly what you normally practice goes out the window. These phases pass though and sometimes the new (not so fun) habits stick around.
In this episode Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn explains how sleep regressions like teething, illness, travel, and developmental milestones can affect sleep and what parents should do when it happens.

It’s the start of the new year and all we see are posts on social media on the new diets that will be tried, the best cleanse to start, or how you all joined a gym, that you’ll likely never go to. We never see the posts about – I’m going to go to bed earlier, or I’m really going to aim on getting regular 7-8 hours of sleep each night. We spend one third of our lives sleeping yet many of us take the need to sleep for granted, and in today’s 24/7 society we are becoming a chronically sleep deprived one.
In today’s episode Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn will be talking about how to help YOU sleep better. She’ll explain to you why you need to focus on your sleep health this year and how you can do it.

Our 4th sleep tool is choosing the method - the way we can finally break any final sleep associations, and wean out and final night feeds. You may be asking yourself, why are we only including this sleep tool now and it’s important to understand that while it’s often the first or only thing we think about when deciding to sleep train, the method is actually the smallest piece of the sleep training puzzle therefore we spend less time talking about it. It’s important to understand that we need to also apply the first 3 sleep tools, often just by doing this we can improve your child’s sleep, and if all you are doing is creating a sleep training plan with just choosing a method it’s not going to work.
In choosing a plan you must be comfortable with following it so that you can be consistent. Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn shares different sleep training methods that you can choose to include in your baby’s sleep plan.
