2022 was suppose to be a year of rebounding from the depths of Covid however it didn't exactly turn out as planned... 2023 will be an interesting year for the tech industry with various changes and challenges to navigate, but that shouldn't scare us!
This episode discusses in short, some of the challenges and difficulties of what is to come in 2023. I also touch on the impact of a AI on the economy and how Elon Musk has changed things forever, with his Twitter takeover. The episode also mentions the importance of virtualization and the hybrid cloud in the tech industry and the increase in adoption of multi-cloud strategies and a little peak into what's in store in my work at Veeam Software while citing a quote from Rocky Balboa.

It's not often that a technology comes along that fundamentals changes and challenges the fundamentals of what it is to be human.
That isn't something said lightly, but the capability of this platform from Open.AI is already well ahead of anything the general internet population has ever come across when it comes to AI. How does this technology in play impact what we perceive to be real and not real... how does it impact content creation and learning. Have we created everything that needs creating to create every ever more?
#ChatGPT has arrived! And with it, possibly one of the most important moments in human history?

AWS are the public cloud kings! To that there is almost no doubt... but are they the panacea?
There is a new normal around Hybrid and Multiple Clouds for organizations to consider. Going all into one platform or cloud isn't seen to be the correct strategy, however AWS culture is predicated on them being the only destination for applications and workloads moving forward. I share some thoughts around this and how AWS still (and will) needs to continue to innovate and evolve, and what I am looking forward to at this years 10th AWS re:Invent.

No, it isn't 1999 all over again... this is a different sort of bubble being burst!
This one was built on high velocity valuations and investments off the back of a sustained tech run for the best part of ten years? And while that's been positive and lead to many great innovative companies and technologies... it's also bred a culture of entitlement and an expectation that the good times will keep on rolling. With covid leading to massive inflation and other geo-political pressures, Elon Musk's brutal take over of Twitter has put everyone in Silicon Valley on notice...they layoffs are here... it's time for a reset... and that's probably a good thing!

What is Multiple Cloud Theory?
In this episode I give some thoughts on hybrid vs multi cloud and what that actually means in todays IT landscape. In a world where we are told that vendor lock-in is bad, that is exactly what we have at the cloud platform level today as hybrid cloud is embraced. That's not a bad thing... it's just the way it is.

[Updated]
Little more info has come out over the weekend and I've added some commentary to the start of the Podcast covering that. In a nutshell, if this was an open API then that changes the narrative around human error being the weakest link in this specific Optus event. However it doesn't change that being a common form of entry for a malicious actor. I still think the media is attempting to crucify Optus in their entirety for this. Yes a very very costly mistake, but one that needs learning from as IT professional.
Something which we are doing by bringing out information such as this thread below from Jeremy Kirk:
https://twitter.com/Jeremy_Kirk/status/1573407117566152704?s=20&t=it8f_3lVo2gCK2llUcNPwQ
This week in Australia, one of our largest telco's got breached with sensitive client data being exposed. That data included names, numbers and passport details... serious yes but what we have seen in the media today has been a massive witch hunt that is unfairly blaming Optus for... what is becoming an almost weekly event around the world. Cybercrime is on the up and you are only as strong as your weakest link... some thoughts here. The sister podcast to the blog, Virtualization if Life! by Anthony Spiteri (https://anthonyspiteri.net)

VeeamON 2022 happened in Vegas a couple weeks back... and this was our first in-person event since 2019, so this is all about getting back into travel and getting back into conferences...the thing that us in the IT community loved pre pandemic, however obviously with what has happened over the last two and a half years in the world, conferences as we knew it went virtual and while that was ok for a while, we needed things to recover... this is the era of Hybrid Events and I share some thoughts on my experiences at my first post-covid international travel and conference.

Last week, I had the pleasure to sit down in a Twitter Space with Chris Williams and other AWS Community members to chat about Chris's journey from a traditionally VMware/Infrastructure background to one in which he now lives and breaths public cloud and cloud native technologies.
