My main goal of sharing these predictions with you is to get the conversation started on what's coming in 2025, and this one is coming to you earlier than usual because I believe that we are stepping into an unprecedented time of the industry. As youâll hear, I feel that things are only going to get harder, so I am trying to give you as much time as possible to prepare. Ultimately, itâll be your ability to adapt, stay nimble and change that is what is going to make or break you going forward.

In a time where the cost of living is steadily increasing, salon owners face the challenging decision of whether to absorb rising expenses or pass them on to their booth renters. In this episode, we take a deep dive into a DM I received from a booth renter salon owner, as I break down her current pricing model and analyze whether raising the rent is the right move or if itâs time to consider a new salon strategy all together.
I can tell you that money alone wonât solve this challenge, but marketing and really looking at what itâs going to take to create a highly desirable space that people want to work in is going to be the solution here!

As a service-based industry, it is really easy to focus on the feels and the vibes because we are in this pressure cooker of an economy, and we start to make emotional decisions that are not good for business. That is why today I want to shed some light on the amenities that don't hold the power that they used to, and give you the categories that used to be considered amenities that are now just par for the course and expectations of your clients. As well, I want to give you my thoughts on what is coming on the horizon, because itâs so important to always anticipate change and look ahead.

One of the things that is most challenging for salon owners right now is attracting top tier stylists, and let me tell you, itâs because those stylists are looking for something different than they were just a few short years ago! I want to talk about how youâre operating your salon to not only attract the best stylists, but to also retain the key team members so they donât want to make a move elsewhere, and it all starts with rethinking stylist goals and benchmarks for raises and promotions.
In this episode, I share the key performance indicators (KPIs) that will always make sense in our industry, the ones that are dated, and what to consider when it comes to your marketing, core values, and more.
I really want you to think about how youâre evaluating your team, and if youâre evaluating them on the metrics that actually determine the health of your business. If your promotion and evaluation structure is motivating youâll have a much better chance in attracting and retaining top talent, and remember that your actions determine the outcome. The question of whether someone can afford to rent a booth or rent a suite right now is one that I hear often, but this episode is not just for commission-based stylists or employee stylists who are considering leaving their current salon. Itâs also for people who are renting booths currently, because let me tell you, there is a lot to consider with this type of business model!
In this episode Iâm breaking it all down, including the costs you need to consider with booth rent or suite rent, the way to be looking at taxes and write-offs, and what to keep in mind to ensure that your client is always receiving the best service possible, and not paying the price for you making a move that may not have been the right one to make at the time.

My team and I recently had an awareness that we donât talk about salon leadership and ownership stuff nearly enough on the podcast, so Iâm excited to be diving into some leadership coaching with you today!
Reading The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership: A New Paradigm for Sustainable Success by Jim Dither, Diana Chapman and Kaley Klemp, shifted my perception on why salons can become drama filled, negativity ridden workplaces and how they get there, and in this episode, I share my thoughts on what I read in this excellent book.
I encourage you to read it too and implement these strategies, and by doing so, the more you can understand your team and make adjustments to be a better leader in the salon (all with less drama and higher profits)!
