As we were getting all excited for TR3N, Disney announced the shelving of the TRON sequel. We have lots to say about this, but this week we talk to Ernie Estrella from BLASTR.com about his ideas for the future of the GRID.
We think we have a great plan for the continuation of the franchise. It has to do with the amazing animated series, TRON: Uprising.

Will we see a new MCP?

Thirty-two years ago (and a week), the world was treated to a unique experience with the release of TRON, a Disney production that combined live action, traditional animation, backlight techniques, and computer generated graphics on a scale which had never before been seen. Developed from the imagination of Steven Lisberger upon seeing the potential in backlit graphics and computer animation, TRON embraced and amplified the expanding world of computers before the world at large truly understood them or their potential.TRON has been embraced by a community of fans who saw it when it was released in 1982, fans who were introduced to it later, and even the generation whose first TRON experience came in the form of TRON: Legacy and TRON: Uprising have recognized the amazing story, themes, and industry-changing processes created out of necessity to tell this story bridging two worlds on either side of the computer screen.
JAMIE joins SHUA and SHAZ this month to talk about some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of this truly innovative feature.
PLUS: You can wear a bit of TRON on your wrist if you act soon by going to touchofmodern.com and checking out some of the glowing timepieces offered there this week. One favorite is the SEVENwatch with two discs on the face that comes in TRON blue, SARK red, or USER white.

What if the MCP was the operating system for the WOPR computer? WarGames has been running in the background for the past couple weeks, and we have notices several similarities between these two computer-oriented movies from the early 80s. Taking what we know from TRON and casting the internal circuits of the WOPR with PROGRAMS from TRON, we imagine what might be happening inside the brain of the WarGames computer in this episode of TRON: Decoding the Grid.PLUS: TRON styled houses and bicycles, and our friend TEKFORCE releases a music video to his single “Stuck in a Bit World”. Join us for about an hour of TRONtasy when the McP meets the WOPR in a fast-food battle of the burgers (not really, no).

We know TRON as the story of two worlds and the beings who inhabit them. Our world is the one we can see and feel; the one on our side of the screen. We are the USERS. The other world is an electronic micro-civilization nestled in a digital existence. The PROGRAMS inhabiting this virtual reality are our own creations and avatars, because we, the USERS, have created this new world, part of us lives there, too.SHAZ and SHUA step up to the mics this week to record a running commentary on the 1982 original TRON. Get out your Blu-rays and DVDs, nuke some popcorn in the microwave, turn on the TV and settle in for TRON with your earbuds!

The Story of TRON depends on music as much as it does on computer-generated special effects. Since 1982, music has been created in tribute to TRON and/or in the stylings of TRON. In this episode, SHAZ and SHUA put some pieces of music together to tell the story of TRON.
TEKFORCE joins the party with his own addition to the GRID, “Stuck in a Bit World” from the upcoming album The Lightcycle Chronicles. You can find TEKFORCE on Twitter @teknique45 and on the album Nerdcore Emulation Station (NES) on Bandcamp.
Also featured in this episode is a new album covering the original Wendy Carlos soundtrack with a guitar-rich twist. STEMAGE released the album PRIORITY ONE: The Music of Tron last summer. Some of the tracks from this album have been heard on previous episodes of TRON: Decoding the Grid. Check out STEMAGE on Twitter and pick up the album on iTunes.
