  • In this episode, I’m talking to Rae Pears about her incredible work with Girlhood Reclaimed, a community interest company challenging the misogynistic narratives that impact young women, girls and anyone who has been socialised into girlhood.

We dig into the reality of growing up in a world shaped by sexism and everyday misogyny shape girls’ lives in ways many adults don’t even realise. Rae shares why creating safe spaces for honest conversations is so important and how listening (really listening) to young people can make all the difference.

We also talk about body image, societal pressures, and why it’s time to stop telling girls to ‘just be more confident’ and start tackling the systems that make them doubt themselves in the first place.

If you care about making the world safer and more empowering for the next generation, this conversation is one you don’t want to miss.

About Rae Pears and Girlhood Reclaimed:

My career started at 18 in youth and community work, where I very quickly began to realise my passion for working alongside women and girls, especially in the field of sexual and domestic violence. After having my three children, I began to move more into this field through voluntary work and eventually becoming a volunteer service coordinator for a women’s mental health helpline. Two years ago I began my MA in Women and Child Abuse, which led me to leave my role in on the Helpline and set up my own community interest company, Girlhood Reclaimed. At Girlhood Reclaimed we aim to disrupt the growing dominance of misogynistic narratives through feminist research, awareness training, and safe spaces for young women, girls and non-binary folk, supporting them to make sense of their experiences and reclaim joy in their girlhood.

  • Women are constantly judged by their appearance especially clothing, yet style is rarely framed as a tool for empowerment. Samantha Harman joins me on the podcast to unpack the societal pressures surrounding what women wear, the mental load of outfit choices, and the double standards when it comes to using style as a business tool.

We explore how personal style is the over looked business tool you didn't know you needed. It’s about stepping into your power, owning your worth, and using your wardrobe as a strategic asset to build your authority in business.

If you're opening your wardrobe and feeling despair not delight, this episode is a full on mic drop moment for your brain.

    Episode Breakdown:

⏱ 00:00 – Introduction to Style and Body Image

⏱ 06:04 – The Psychological Impact of Clothing

⏱ 11:59 – The Double Standards in Fashion and Gender

⏱ 17:50 – Why Style Starts with Foundational Work

⏱ 27:41 – Empowering Women to Own Their Genius

⏱ 34:34 – Generational Patterns That Shape Confidence

⏱ 40:22 – How Personal Branding Drives Success

    Meet Samantha Harman

Samantha Harman, The Style Editor, helps women in business scale to 6 and multi-6 figures using their wardrobes as a money-making branding tool.

As a young woman from a working class background in leadership in an elitist, male-dominated industry, Samantha understood first-hand the disparity between how men and women are judged when it comes to dressing for work.

She also dealt with body image hang-ups, once cried in a dressing room as shop assistants laughed and was turned down for jobs at 3 fashion companies because she was plus size.

Samantha is on a mission to rid the world of the toxic normalisation of women being sold products based on the weaponisation of their bodies against them.

Her book, helping you understand why you have nothing to wear and what to do about it, is published in late 2025.

  • Technology is glorious but sometimes it can be damaging in ways you don't realise. I'm not against AI (unless it's used to rip of other peoples work) but in this episode I want to address the issues I see with AI brand photos.

AI has the potential to help us simplify our work and our processes but I'm seeing a worrying trend of people using it as a cheaper way to create professional looking brand photos with the click of a button, not realising it could be damaging their confidence.

The perfect photos with zero flaws leads women into the trap of thinking it's going to boost their confidence. I mean who doesn't want stunning pictures without having to book a photographer, do your hair and make up or take time to make all that happen.

These apps and software that produce these images often gives a slimmer, smoother, younger looking image which boost confidence temporarily. The problem comes when they have to actually show their face, create video or even work with clients directly without that polished look.

When we don't actually look like photo it can feels even more challenging to show up without the levels of perfection these pictures offer.

AI brand photos play on insecurities created by the narrow standards of beauty we are expected to live up to. In this episode I'm unpacking the hidden ways it could be dmaging your brand, your confidence and stopping you from showing up.

  • Do you ever have something to share so urgently that you reschedule everything and record a podcast episode on New Years day!

Well apparently I do and I make no apology because I think this was a much needed episode. Women running feminist led businesses are being struck by fear of the very things they are trying to dismantle.

Patriarchal beauty standards, diet culture and everything we try and help women ignore for themselves, still hold us in a vice like grip and its impacting how we help women but instead of letting that stop you I want you to make peace with it.

This episode is a lesson in imperfection, a lesson in being able to not be perfect but to keep going anyway. A reminder that diet culture likely still has a grip on you and that's ok. The narrow standards of beauty are still messing with your confidence and thats ok.

By the end of this episode I hope you have the confidence of a mediocre white man and just keep doing your thing and showing up anyway.

  • In this episode of Unshakeable Confidence, I dive into the powerful connection between self-acceptance, confidence, and body image, especially during menopause. I share why I decided to rename the podcast and how this shift reflects the deeper conversations I’m passionate about having with you.

But the real focus of this episode is about overcoming fears around showing up online—whether that’s posting on social media or getting in front of the camera. I’ll help you see how finding your voice and stepping away from the noise of societal expectations can transform your business and reach the perfect people who need to find you.

I share the uncomfortable journey of being an avid dieter to posting anti-diet culture content and completely flipping my beliefs and values around what I believe.

If you’ve ever felt like body image struggles were holding you back, this episode is a must-listen.

Don’t forget to subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with a friend who needs a confidence boost!
