For the final episode of this season we asked our cancer community ‘If you had 5 minutes with a psychosexual therapist, what would you ask?’ The questions gathered cover an array of subjects which we put to NHS psychosexual therapist and speciality doctor in sexual health, Dr Eleanor Holloway. We also answer the ‘Passing the Dildo’ question one last time and we hope that you keep passing the dildo too!

With Episode 5 we discuss cancer, sex and intimacy through a queer lens. Healthcare is often very heteronormative in the way it thinks and operates. For people whose sexuality is not heterosexual and whose gender identity goes against the binary there can be huge ramifications for their individual experience of cancer, sex, pleasure and body autonomy. We are joined by Jennifer Crouch who has had breast cancer and is an artist whose work looks at the queer experience and how that intersects with the body and science. Jennifer also delves into their personal experience with kink after a cancer diagnosis. Joining us on the journey is Bima Loxley who is a brilliantly knowledgeable and open sex & relationship therapist who specialises in gender, sexual and relationship diversity.

In Episode 3 we talk about navigating cancer, sex and intimacy through the perspective of women of colour. After meeting through ‘Black Women Rising’, a cancer programme led by the Leanne Pero Foundation charity, Cheryl, Dee and Carmel share their personal experiences of cancer, the importance of community and the value of making space to talk about the cultural taboos of discussing sex whilst living with a cancer diagnosis.

In Episode 2 we focus on the changes that can happen to your body due to cancer treatment and surgery, and how it can impact your sex life and the intimacy you have with yourself and/or a partner. We are joined by Lucy Waters whose experience of medical menopause put her on the path to reclaiming pleasure demonstrating the power of self-advocacy. We also speak with Dr Liz O’Riordan, who is both a Breast Cancer surgeon, and a Breast Cancer patient. Through her incredibly unique experience, Liz has been able to change the landscape of cancer care and shares her key insights relating to cancer, sex and intimacy.

With episode 1 we take a deep dive into the Cancer, Sex & Intimacy project to date, why it came to exist, and the gaps we found were present in our own cancer experiences. We are also joined by two of our project collaborators: Renee Denyer who is the award winning manager at the pioneering pleasure focused sex shop Sh! and Emma Willis co-CEO of Shine Cancer Support, a charity supporting people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Join us as we talk about toys, taboos and the importance of community. You will also be introduced to the now infamous ‘Passing the Dildo’ section that takes place at the end of every episode.
