  • Chris Johnson was a successful student and athlete before getting caught up in some unhealthy decision making. Once he found himself selling drugs and in the local gang detail book, he knew he needed to make a choice. Enlisting in the U.S. Army sent him down a nearly three-decade path where he learned the importance of leadership, trust, and putting others first. Following his retirement from the military, he began mentoring youth and teaching them critical life skills.

    He joins us on this episode of Win This Year to share his experience, wisdom, and ideas on how lessons learned in the military can apply to both youth and parents.

  • Vanessa Baker is a parent and teen mindset coach, as well as the author of the book, "From MEAN to REAL CLEAN," and a parenting course of the same name. She has five teenagers and a toddler.   • In this episode, we discuss the challenge of helping adolescents achieve and maintain healthy body image, and the importance and value of creating healthy connections with others. Our guest, Dr. Elicia Nademin, offers insight and tips on how to keep our families healthy and thriving, and how to create powerful, lasting connections with others.

    Dr. Nademin is a board certified psychologist in behavioral and cognitive psychology. She works full-time as a home-based primary care psychologist for elderly veterans, maintains a small part-time private practice, is a business owner in the anti-aging skincare
    industry, and lectures annually on professionalism, communication, behavioral medicine, and diversity.

    She has been involved in standard-setting and curriculum development for communication, interpersonal skills, and behavioral medicine for students of osteopathic
    medicine. She has held multiple leadership roles in the Arizona Psychological Association and has long overseen diversity advocacy efforts in her community. Dr.Nademin also serves as the Arizona Early Career Psychologist Ambassador to the American Board of
    Professional Psychology.

    She most enjoys watching people dream differently as they grow in confidence and leadership skills. She has explored diverse strengths in unique and unexpected ways and delights in watching and helping to empower others through leadership
    and inspiration. In her free time, Dr. Nademin spends time traveling, volunteering, and enjoying quality time with her mother, friends, and dog Kaylie. In her respective roles, Dr. Nademin helps others build confidence, relationship skills, and community while
    promoting diversification, serving others on a global platform.

  • After losing her young adult son to a heroin overdose, Monica Tipton has courageously used her experience and knowledge to change the landscape of substance use recovery through awareness, understanding, and combating stigma. In this episode, she shares the story of the loss of her son and her personal journey to healing and helping others.

    As a community leader and prior business owner, Monica Tipton has spent more than 20 years establishing relationships with diverse populations and bringing communities together. In her previous role, she served as a leader in Diversity & Inclusion at the Target Tempe Headquarters campus to bring forward thinking events that broke down barriers. Monica looks for opportunities where she can bridge gaps, inspire others, and build stronger communities. She currently serves as the Chairperson for Community Days of Service for the AZ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee. Monica holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Addictions, Chemical Dependency, and Substance Abuse. She is a current candidate for a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Forensic Psychology.

  • In 2020, Back To School time looks very different than it has in any other year. Parents and kids are feeling increased levels of stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. In this episode, Michael Klinkner gives strategies for parents, guardians, and other adults to reduce stress and help kids succeed and remain physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.

    Michael Klinkner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He completed his Master of Social Work Degree at West Virginia University after completing his Bachelor’s degree at Washington and Jefferson College. Michael has received specialty training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Neurolinguistic Programming. Michael is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Michael has been dedicated to helping people find balance for over 20 years. In addition to outpatient services, Michael teaches graduate level courses for the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. Michael provides individual, group and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults.

Her 34 years of prevention experience comes from working with community-based youth programs and school districts, serving as a trainer for a national prevention research-based company and now running her own business - KNS Learning Solutions. She offers her clients resources, training and support in effective prevention strategies and teaching methods, parent engagement, community and school support, group facilitation skills, grant writing and leadership coaching. She is also the licensed trainer for All Stars - a series of research-based prevention curricula for students in grades 4-12.
