Phase 3, Episode 11
Peter Parker is back and. he's on vacation? It's Spider-Man: Far From Home. Directed by Jon Watts. Starring Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau and Jake Gyllenhaal.
After coming down from the high that was the last 45 minutes of Avengers: Endgame, this palette cleanser isn't what the doctor ordered, but we're getting it anyway. Mike works through his dislike of the character that is Ned, through no fault of the actor, Jacob Batalon. Pat finds very little to like in this movie with exception of the action set pieces. But they both agree that Quentin Beck is played extremely well by Jake Gyllenhaal, even if they don't understand his reasons for unveiling Spider-Man's true identity during the end tag.
This also marks the end of the Infinity Saga as well as the end of Yet Another MCU Podcast. Mike and Pat bid farewell at the end of the episode, reflecting on the 30 episode adventure they took together. Thanks for listening! But don't despair, we'll still be around...in video form.

Phase 3, Episode 10
You ready for all the emotions? It's Avengers: Endgame starring everyone and directed by the Russo Brothers. Everything we've all watched for the last 10 years is about to wrap up in this one 3 hour movie and what better to cover it than a long 90 minute YAMP episode.
Mike Field and Pat Whalen attempt to breakdown all the comic connections in this 22nd MCU movie and figure out the events of this movie and their effect on the MCU past, present and future. That's right, we're going back in time! Remember! As Smart Hulk says, "Time Travel!"
Mike wonders why Justin Hammer didn't get an invite to Stark's funeral and vehemently shatters Pat's love of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. (Yeah, there's a tangent). Pat gets teary-eyed over Cap's farewell, but struggles to understand which reality Cap and Peggy exist in, since no one at Marvel seem to be on the same page about it.
It's the penultimate Infinity Saga podcast episode! Join us as we watch Thanos die, then die again.

Phase 3, Episode 9.
The 1 billion (worldwide) juggernaut that is Captain Marvel is here to fight the Skrulls, but then the Cree and ultimately to save the world. Starring Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Annette Bening, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch and Clark Gregg. This modern-day tale, set in the 90s, packs quite the impact on the box office.
Listen to Pat hate on all the MCU connections, as they contradict much of the canon of the past 20 movies. But it's not all hate, as Pat credits this adaptation of the Captain Marvel character as being spot-on. Mike yearned for an actual final battle between Danvers and the Supreme Intelligence rather than the villain-by-proxy that is Ronan in this movie.
Discover the mystery behind Danver's real call-sign in the comics, as it was not Avenger, as it was in the movie. Then listen as Pat make the ridiculous claim that the all-time call sign in movie history is Merlin, while Mike corrects him. It's Maverick! It's always Maverick!

Phase 3, Episode 8.
Peyton Reed returns to directed Ant-Man and the Wasp starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Peña and more!
Pat and Mike talk about whether or not this movie unfairly suffers from an audience let down coming off of the epic Avengers: Infinity War. Mike will dive into the various villainous obstacles placed in Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne's way, rather than an actual villain for the movie. Pat will trace the history of Bill Foster, Ghost, Egghead (yeah, he's in this) within the comics, while also breaking down why we're not allowed to call the Quantum Realm by it's true comic name - The Microverse.
And those dang Sokovia Accords rear their ugly heads in this, much to the chagrin of Mike.

Phase 3, Episode 7.
The beginning of the end is here as everyone from every movie team up to get the butt kicked out of them by Thanos, the black order and the outriders in Avengers: Infinity War, directed by The Russo Brothers.
Pat Whalen and Mike Field break down all the different threads and characters mixed together in the ultimate achievement in world building storytelling. They talk about Tony Stark's incessant need to always be upset about something, the all-too-brief reunion between Bruce Banner and Black Widow: a head nod after not seeing each other for two years and then the transformation of Doctor Strange from complete jerk in his own movie to the only adult in the room for this one.
And much, much, much more. Listen as we attempt to stop Thanos from snapping his fingers...oh too late.

Bonus Phase, Episode 7
A long time ago, in a television world far, far away...Netflix had Marvel shows. Remember?! Mike Field and Pat Whalen discuss the Marvel Knight slate of shows - Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher in this week's bonus episode.
They'll talk about what worked and maybe, didn't work in these shows. They'll lament on missed opportunities both on the side of the creators and on the side of Marvel and Disney. Mike has issues with supporting characters taking the limelight away from the leads, while Pat fondly remembers a time when Danny Rand was the Immortal Iron Fist and the protector of Kun Lun. (Take a drink!)
Then, for some unknown reason, they start talking about Law & Order and Boardwalk Empire and much more that have nothing to do with the Netflix shows.

Phase 3, Episode 6
Ryan Coogler brings Black Panther to the big screen, starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and more!
Pat and Mike can't stop talking about how much they like this movie from the dialogue and character building, including a villain in Killmonger that you truly understand and sympathize with his anger. They each enjoyed the isolationist theme debated on screen throughout the movie, as well as, the movie's ability to stand on its own without the crutch of the MCU's other heroes.
Finally, Mike and Pat, ponder the future of the Black Panther franchise after the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman.

Phase 3, Episode 5.
The third and final, wait...third of four Thor movies has arrived. It's Thor: Ragnarok starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson and Cate Blanchett. Directed by Taika Waititi.
Mike and Pat dive into Thor's journey for the infinity stones, which has failed, and he's now forced to defend Asgard against the sister he never knew he had. Much like the GOTG movies, Thor: Ragnarok adopts the style over substance angle in storytelling and Pat is having none of it.
They talk about Hela being a supporting villain in her own movie, the Hulk movie we'll never get so it's in this one and how some of the comedy in this movie overshadows any dramatic moments for Thor and his family and the fact that he's about to lose his home world!

Phase 3, Episode 4
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man joins the MCU in his brand new, stand-alone (sorta) movie. It's Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Zendaya and Michael Keaton as Vulture. Directed by John Watts.
Mike and Pat discuss the main ways they enjoyed this return to form Spider-Man from the comics, even though they start mixing alternate worlds with certain characters. Pat isn't a fan of M.J. actually being Michelle and not Mary-Jane even through Peter doesn't meet Mary-Jane until after High School and his real love is Gwen Stacy! (Okay, calm down, Pat) And Mike pines over more stand-alone films where cramming in connections to the MCU doesn't impair the storytelling.
But they both love Michael Keaton portrayal of Vulture, a sympathetic villain, who deserves another crack at the web-slinger in future stories.

Phase 3, Episode 3.
We're back with everyone's favorite rag-tag group of hired guns, thrown together like another one of Peter Quill's mix tapes. It's The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin "I Am Groot" Diesel.
James Gunn also returns to direct this sequel that finds the gang doing things, meeting Quill's dad, doing more things and then saving the universe yet again, but this time no one really will know about it except some ravagers.
Pat schools Mike on the history of the Guardians from the comics and how Adam Warlock fits and doesn't fit within the Infinity Saga. Mike pleads the case that the best Yondu line is not the infamous "Mary Poppins" reference, but rather something far more important.

Phase 3, Episode 2
Now, for something a little different in the MCU. It's the mystic arts of Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton. Directed by Scott Derrickson.
We meet Dr. Steven "Jerk" Strange as we get a new origin story from his horrific accident to his miraculous recovery with the help of The Ancient One. This is a character that Pat is unfamiliar within comic world, so Mike isn't alone this episode as they both learn a few things about the character's growth from the page to screen.
They dissect the introduction to the multi-verse and ponder its possible continuation throughout future MCU movies. Mike and Pat also delve into other IPs from the DC Universe for some reason unbeknownst even to them. You came for Doctor Strange, but you're getting some Green Lantern history as well.

Phase 3, Episode 1.
We're back and so are the Avengers as they're teaming up to take on the ultimate bad guy....each other! It's Captain America: Civil War! Directed by The Russo Brothers and starring pretty much everyone - Captain America (Chris Evans) returns as the titular hero to face off against Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) and hero registration.
We know... Exciting. We're also not alone for this episode as we're joined by former Editor at DC Comics and owner of Infinite Heroes Comic Shop, Paul Santos. Paul helps us break down the movie and its differences from the comic event its based on.
Another first. Mike read the comic beforehand. Pat made him. Listen as Mike struggles to understand the choices made in the movie, as well as getting sick and tired of hearing about the Sokovia Accords. So much in this episode that it burst past the usual 50-60 mins. Check out 90 mins of YAMP fun!

Bonus Phase, Episode 5.
Pat Whalen and Mike Field travel to San Fransokyo to talk about the Disney-Pixar movie, Big Hero 6. A movie that is party of the MCU, but not really. And you know what else? It's really good.
A fun, heart-warming story that showcases grief in a real, tangible way as well as delivers on action and comedy. While the movie takes from the entirety of the limited series run of the Big Hero 6 comic, the story is singular to the film.

Phase 2. Episode 6.

Scott Lang is fresh out of prison, trying to get his life together, but he's dragged back into a life of crime by Hank Pym in order to stop a madman from getting his hand on the Pym Particle.
Pat Whalen and Mike Field talk about the different dynamic in this Marvel film compared to the others before it. The family relationship between Lang and his ex-wife and new husband. And the enduring love Lang has for his daughter is what drives the character. We also finally get to meet Hank Pym in the MCU as Michael Douglas grabs the role by the reins. A heist film masquerading as a Marvel action movie. This is Ant-Man!

Phase 2. Episode 5.
Mike and Pat are talking about Avengers: Age of Ultron, starring the usual suspects: Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johannson, Samuel L. Jackson and more!
The Avengers are needed again. Well, they've been on missions, apparently, and after finding an infinity stone, Tony Stark does what he does best. He tinkers with it and creates Ultron! Way to go, Tony!
Now the Avengers need to battle the ultimate A.I. villain who is hell bent on destroying the world and building the perfect body for himself. Mike struggles with the episodic nature of the movie and Pat digs on Hawkeye's surprise familial revelation.

Phase 2. Episode 4.
We are shooting off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper. Directed by James Gunn.
The galaxy is under the threat of invasion? Sure! It's going to take a rag-tag group featuring two thieves, an 80s-loving scavenger and a potential villain to stop it from happening. Mike considers the opening of the movie as one of the strongest openings in the MCU. Pat considers GOTG the movie we were all promised when Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released in 1999.

Phase 2, Episode 3
Captain America returns to battle Hydra...er, we mean S.H.I.E.L.D... No! It's Hydra! It'a been Hydra all along! Chris Evans returns as the titular hero along with Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Robert Redford and, of course, Samuel L. Jackson.
Pat Whalen and Mike Field are once again joined by Mike Butler from Forgotten Cinema as they break down this 2014 MCU film, although Butler isn't a fan of this movie. He talks about the last 45 minutes and how they betray the first two acts of the movie. Also, Pat introduces Field to the world of the Canadian Avengers!
And, of course, the movie's clear cut association with Three Days of the Condor and other 70s spy movies doesn't go unnoticed by the trio. Enjoy the episode!
