Episode Summary: Red urine, a dissolving toe, canât squat to poo, drinking water from a trashcan hiking over 2000 miles in undies that end up buttless, 50+ mile daysâŠpersistence, determination, finisher, husband, and father. These are all words and phrases that describe Nick âDJ or Desert Jesusâ Fowler, a man whoâs a bit less man, and more athletic deity if you ask us. Nick sits down with us to cover just what it takes to FKT trails, push yourself beyond your limits, how to cope with regrets from trail, and impending fatherhood. Honestly, we will probably listen to this episode several times because we just love this guy. Cheers to you, Nick- a true man who's obsessed with the west, but definitely not a nobody.

Episode Summary: Halloween Bonus Episode release, because it's scary to hike with an injury, the thought of it taking you off trail is terrifying. Listen in.
In this subscriber episode of YWIB we sit down with Renee âAzulâ Aldrich to cover hiking while married (and your spouse is NOT with you), but also hiking with a potentially hike-ending injury. Howâs intimacy when you havenât seen you spouse for weeks or months? What emotional hurdles do you have to overcome to keep waking up to hike each day when it may be your last? We only had Azul for a short episode because she had to hop back on trail (the CDT) but expect a full-length interview with her in the near future.

Episode Summary: Taking a step back from our traditional episode style, we did rapid interviews with CDT and (mainly) CT hikers along their treks here in Colorado while showing them some loveâŠvia trail magic! With free clothing and swag from Galena Mountain Projects (interviewed in episode 38), out-of-this-world dehydrated meals donated by Farm to Summit (a Durango, CO company), some good-hearted Samaritans from the Howe household (CO angels), and flapjacks from Cucumber and Bloom (PCT hikers), we all combined our efforts and pulled off a top-notch trail magic event for them. Listen in to see how these hikersâ treks were going in late July, and what tidbits they had to share. Enjoy!

Episode Summary: In this episode of YWIB we interviewone of our FAVORITE outdoor (or even casual) brands which we stumbled upon in the adorable town of Leadville, CO. Galena Mountain Projects (or Galena)started with ideas and plots in a cold tent in even colder terrain- ideas to bring the outdoor mecca that is Leadville, to lifeâŠthrough guidebooks. From there, they evolved to selling outdoor/active clothing with a rustic Coloradoflair. Weâve used their Sawatch bamboo sun hoodies on the Colorado Trail and basically every trail weâve hiked since discovering them. Listen to Justin and Davidâs story about how thoughts became reality- something that sounds very similar to the making of your next thru hike or backpacking trip, right?

We love these guys and hope you will too. Tune in to E35 Part 1 if you havenât already.

Episode Summary: In this (RELEASED) subscriber episode of âYeti Walks Into Basecampâ we do a bit of verbal processing with you. Hiking with a dog can be difficult. Hiking with a 1-year-old, relatively untrained (but we are working on it and she's doing so good!) husky is a bit more so. We discuss some of the highs and lows of our experience so far, hiking over the last 3.5 months with our new girl, Loba. Sheâs a light to our day but adds a whole new level of difficulty and planning that we need to consider. Additionally, we cover some of the gear we use with her, and some things we are hoping to get in the future. We record this one from our tent, so just ignore the sleepy sounds and sleeping bag rustles. Thanks for being a part!

Episode Summary: In this episode of YWIB we sit down and talk maps/trails with FarOut COO and General Counsel, Alice Bodnar. Yes, you heard that right, we were lucky enough to speak with FarOut and gained invaluable knowledge on the processes leading to trails you see on their app. Including its name change from Guthook to FarOut (not a buyout, just a name change) we discuss what spiked Aliceâs interest in coding the famous long trail phone app, GPS tracking on one of the original iPhone models along the PCT, why you wonât see campsite icons on some of their trails, whatâs happening with wonky trails/mileage including the CDT, the future of FarOut, and even their affiliation with Keith âFozzyâ Foskett. Like beer but not the buzz? We even discussed NA beer. Join us for this in-depth interview on everyoneâs favorite long trail phone app.

Episode Summary: In this episode of Yeti Walks Into Basecamp, we spend some time with Brandon Bowers of the PNW, Product Manager for Therm-a-Rest. Curious what sleeping mat/mattress/pad is right for you? Ever wonder what exactly that arbitrary looking “R” value is? Think your pad sounds like a spent potato chip bag every time you turn over on it? Can you slap a piece of tape on a leaking mattress and think it’s good as new? We discuss ALL these things, and more, and just how much effort goes into making those kingpins of the hiking/backpacking sleep system world: the NeoAir Xtherm, NeoAir Xlite, and the Uberlite.
Topics: Therm-A-Rest, sleeping, sleep system, pads, mattresses, pad repair

Episode Summary: In this episode of âYeti Walks Into Basecampâ we speak with the Subaru/LNT team, Jesse & Elena. They spend some 11 months traveling the U.S. to teach and preach the message of leave no trace (LNT) while camping along the way. Think thatâs a lot of gas use? Well, there may be a change in store there too! In this first half of a 2-part episode, we cover some of the first 2 LNT principles (there are 7 in total) and discuss a lesser known, visibly stunning trail in Hawaii- the Kalalau Trail (a ~22 mi. out and back). Sit in for this first half and become a semiprofessional in LNT.
